Who ya got?

I think it’s CLEARLY Leggett, and it’s not particularly close.

El-Amin. Thought he was going to be the perfect compliment to Shep and Leggett. Ended as a complete non factor all year.

Went with strictly players, because Cox would’ve won 100%.

Leggett/El-Amin/Sheppard three way tie.

Very close call for me between Sheppard and El-Amin.

Sheppard just didn’t grow until a role that was supposed to be his for the taking. Obvious now that he can’t be the guy, so maybe unfair to blame him

El-Amin to me just never asserted himself, which is why I ended up going with him. You go from a guy taking 14 shots a game last year to 5 this year? On a team deprived of guard talent begging for someone to step up?

I’m sure some of this was the system Cox asked them to run, but guards were tough this year

Leggett for me, hands down. I’m the idiot who posted after the BU game that he would be the best player this season.

I don’t
Know why I even included Makhi and Makhel.

I don’t think they were disappointing at all, just frustrating at times.

They both were very good tonight.

Cox said before the season that Leggett would be the surprise player in the conference. I had high expectations.

In a way, Cox was right.

Leggett was surprisingly awful.

Leggett for me. Was super disappointed when Cox used a schollie on El-Amin. His entire body of work at Ball State was underwhelming to me. Always thought Martin should’ve started over him

I don’t think he was awful. I certainly thought he was going to have a better year, but he was a good defender all season and had some nice games offensively. He always battled. He also had some horrible games offensively. He’s gonna end up averaging what like 8-9 pts on the season? Not good enough but not awful.

EA was the biggest bust because he completely disappeared so many games. He made no impact on either end.

Regarding players definitely Shep.
He is a 6th year player and supposed to be the leader.

Surprisingly prior to the season, I thought he would be the most impactful.

Leggett or Shepp. Leggett at least gave you something defensively. Shepp gave you nothing.

Both were needed to elevate their games and they regressed. So. Hard.

Cox was as expected since December 2017.

El Amin was exactly what I expected.

The Mitchell’s are also candidates.

I think el Amin was misused most of the season. He is not a one on one player and few sets had him as the first or second option.

Even tonight, when Richmond was dbl and triple teaming in the backcourt, it would have been playing to his strengths to have him in the front court getting open threes. Never happened. Don’t blame this on him though.

Shephard is my leading candidate. For me, not even close

To be fair, Cox wasn’t as expected since 2017.

Nobody in their right mind expected us to be in this situation when Cox got hired.

Sheppard IMO. 6th year senior. Inexcusable how inconsistent and at times downright horrid at the 1 he was this year. I didn’t know much about El Amin so tempered expectations and I’m giving Leggett a pass bc he brings it with effort and defensive intensity regardless of his offensive woes. It’s close tho between all 3.

That’s why I said December. I thought he was the guy originally. I knew after moving dowtin off the ball, the Fatts shot against Harvard, and PC - he wasn’t the right choice.

It’s all in the PC thread from that year.

That's the biggest problem with the Cox era. There was zero growth out of him from the first month on the job to the last. You can go back to that PC thread one month in to his head coaching career and the same issues then are the same issues now.

Cox knows more about basketball than us, but when we can point out his weaknesses and he can't fix them, that's a massive issue. And what do you think other coaches were picking up on if we had certain things pegged so easily.

Great guy, great assistant coach, not the right head coach for URI

I like Shep but he regressed from last year. Cox has a unique talent of making players worse YOY in most cases.

I can almost assure you he doesn’t know how to manage timeouts as well as us.

I really want to say Leggett but I have a hard time giving the disappointing label to someone who plays as hard as he does. Our collective guard play this year was horrific and I think the twins can be solid A-10 players with proper coaching and at least decent guard play. So I'm going with Leggett because he is suppose to be one of our building blocks for the future but he (and Thomas) are complete liabilities on offense. We pretty much have a MAAC level of talent on this current roster.

Makhel is the only good one. On the whole team.

Leggett - he was a freshman going into his sophomore year, which is typically when players improve the most. Instead, he regressed badly on offense, to the point that it far overrides any gains he made on defense. He looked like a guy who could be an All-A10 kind of player, but now, I'd just be happy if he's a productive starter.

El-Amin would be my #2 vote. I've got no clue if it's on him or on Cox, or if there is some unknown injury at play, but he went from a good combo guard at Ball State to a guy just far too tentative to shoot at URI.

I can understand the votes for Sheppard, but, he's 24 and turns 25 in July. Excluding NBA caliber players, most full-time basketball players kind of are what they are by that age. Likewise, the Mitchells are frustrating to watch, but they were productive. I think they're fine on a team with normal guard play.

Ish is your new Jermaine Harris. Your season long hate for one particular player each year is unmatched.

Not even close.

Leggett is 27X the player that Harris was.

Also, nobody really defended Leggett this season and said he was good.

As you can see from the poll, the majority here agree with me on Leggett.

95% of posters last season defended Harris’ play, said he was good, “played hard” “gave effort” and was good getting the jump ball, which was just all false.

I think my vote is for Leggett, but it’s not a knock on him, more what he represents. I thought if this staff was going to succeed, they would have to show they could retain and develop a recruit. It didn’t happen and now he’s likely gone.

I have no idea. I want to say no. But, in this hypothetical situation, I’m not sure that this was the staff that was best for him.

Player development under Cox was hit and miss....mostly miss.

And that's an indictment of the rest of the staff too.
