The HUGE A10 showdown for supremacy of the conference between the Rams vs Flyers tips off on Saturday at 2:00. Rhody looks to avenge their home loss to Dayton just 10 days ago. Winner of this game will receive the top seed heading into the conference tournament. The Flyers have 3 players averaging double digits, with sophomore Makira Cook leading the way at 15.1. Second leading scorer, Erin Whalen (13.2), is their top deep threat with 54 made 3 pointers on the season (1 more than Rhody’s Dolly Cairns). Rhody’s stifling defense held Whalen to just 3-17 shooting including 0 for 10 from deep. Senior guard Araion Bradshaw runs the point for the Flyers & is averaging 4.2 assists per game. The aforementioned Cook is second with almost 3 assists per game. That duo accounts for over half of their team’s assists per game. Dayton’s height played a factor in the last match-up. Emmanuelle Tahane & MP Foppossi were suffocated down low with most of the attempts heavily contested. They ended up finishing the game a combined 4 for 26. What helps Rhody tremendously going into this matchup is having Dez Elmore back. She missed the last time these teams played & was sorely missed. She is second on the team in both points (12.4) & rebounds (8.4) per game. It’s time for Flyers’ run of dominance to end over the Rams. Dayton has now won 18 straight over Rhode Island. The Rams have never won in Dayton & it has been 19 years since URI has not lost in double-digits to the Flyers on the road. I am predicting a defensive battle, but nothing like the rock fight that happened in the last game. Goliath finally falls as Coach Reiss and the Rams win this one, 55-51. Go Rhody!!
