Let's keep these game write-ups going! The Women’s team looks to rebound after suffering their first loss of conference play as they head to Richmond for a late Saturday afternoon game against the Spiders. Rhody looks to start a new 13 game win streak that brings them through the A10 tournament & into the NCAA tournament. Richmond currently resides in the middle of pack in the A10 with a 5-8 record & have just 1 win in their last 5 games. They played both UMass & VCU, who are 3rd & 4th in the A10 respectively, hard on the road losing both games by a combined 5 points. So, there is the potential for them to give Rhody a challenge, especially at home. Conversely though, when they played Dayton at home at the end of the first quarter, they were losing 21-1. The Spiders are led by sophomore forward Addie Budnik, who is averaging 13.6/5.7/2.2 per game. She scored 20 in her last outing against Duquesne. Her partner in crime is Kate Klimkiewicz who is averaging 12.5/6.3/2.0. That is an impressive 1, 2 punch. Richmond has comparable height with Rhody, so dealing with the length problems like Dayton should not be as much of an issue. Rhody needs to take care of business to close out the season. After this Richmond game, they play at home against St. Bonaventure (who is towards the bottom of the A10 standings) & then for the conference sealing game at Dayton. Hopefully Dez Elmore will be back for the team’s remaining games as they will need her, especially against the Flyers. Rhody is currently on a 6-game win streak, and I think they will make it 7 this weekend. When Rhody scores 68 or more they are 14-0 this season. The Rams also currently have a 4-game win streak against Richmond. I am predicting a 68 – 60 Rhode Island win.
Looking forward to settling in for an afternoon of basketball with back-to-back women & men’s URI games on ESPN+. Rhody basketball is going to be like doing drugs. A great euphoric high as the women’s game against Richmond tips-off at 4:00 & then we can all come crashing down for the men’s game against George Washington at 6:00. To quote Eddie Vedder, “I’ll ride the wave, where it takes me, I’ll hold the pain.” That about sums it up. Go Rhody!!
