Women's bubbleville - tracking games of the teams on the bubble

Unread post by RhowdyRam02 »

I've seen two sites that follow the women's bracket, one is the College Sports Madness one, that has Rhody and Dayton as in. The other is the ESPN one. Since we're on the bubble on that one, I'll use that one for now for this thread

4th to last bye Creighton hosts Xavier at 7:30
2nd to last bye Missouri State hosts Drake at 8 on ESPN+
2nd to last in Marquette is at seventh out Villanova at 7
Last in Arizona State hosts #6 Arizona at 9 on the Pac 12 Network
First out Oregon State hosts #24 Oregon at 11 on the Pac 12 Network
Fourth out Washington State hosts eighth out UCLA at 10

UMass isn't on ESPN's bracketology anymore but they're still lingering. They host George Mason this afternoon (Noon, ESPN+)... Minutewomen should coast in that one. And despite them competing with URI for an at-large, Rhody should be pulling for UMass to make their two wins look better.

4th to last bye Creighton beat Xavier 68-47. Attendance was 1249.
2nd to last bye Missouri State beat Drake 63-59. Attendance was 2156.
7th out Villanova beat 2nd to last in Marquette 74-63. Attendance at Villanova was 1405.
Last in Arizona State beat #6 Arizona 81-77. Attendance was 5193.
First out Oregon State lost to #24 Oregon 74-66. Attendance was 6097.
Fourth out Washington State beat eighth out UCLA 66-65. Attendance at Washington State was 1120.

All in all, seems like a bad night for Rhody. Not sure how long I'll be tracking attendance at home games for bubble teams, but at least for now I'm interested to see how we stack up against teams who are in theory about as good as us

Unfortunately, it's going to be harder to see where URI lies in terms of the bubble right now. Since they're alone in first place, ESPN is going to have them in the bracket as the auto-bid.

RR2,
I like that you include the attendance numbers for each game in your Bubble-ville game tracking list

Attendance was 1252. Honestly not sure about the Gonzaga of the East, I'm kind of learning about the women's game as we're going

I've never really followed women's college basketball, so I only know the absolute basics about who the traditional powers are and stuff. I don't know the lesser teams that are still good, attendance teams get, and so on

Also NCAA expanded just this year to 68 teams from 64 teams. Considerable impact on the Last 4 in, Last 4 out. Impacts URI’s situation being a bubble team.

It might be Gonzaga! Just took a look at WBB attendance numbers from 2019-20 (figured it made sense to check pre-COVID) and Gonzaga ranked 14th nationally in attendance. All other teams in the top 25 of attendance are power conference. Top 5:

1. South Carolina
2. Oregon
3. Iowa State
4. UConn
5. Louisville

Here’s something you could learn…that you don’t have to post a snarky ass reply to every single comment on the board. It was obvious what he meant, in the context of this convo, and easy to deduce that he wasn’t wondering if they still play with 5 people on the court and a 10 foot rim.

This is helpful. Page 8 and 9 break it down by conference and you see where the A-10 is historically.

A-10 average is somewhere between 800-1100 pretty much for the last decade.

ACC is between 2600-3200. That might matter when Syracuse and Virginia come calling at the end of the year.

Let's pack the place tomorrow and show Tammi the kind of support winning here can garner.

I both hate and love that we're going through these exercises for the women - but I'm here for it. Wish it was for the men's team but this is new and fun. Nice to have a team at URI competing at the highest levels. Pack the place tonight!

Crazy game was Dayton at Fordham today
Dayton led 46-32 with 7.5 minutes remaining in the 4th Q
Fordham lost 48-47 as the Rams outscored Dayton 15-2 over the last 7.5 minutes.

Big win for Dayton. Our win over Fordham was big and could play a part in the possible selection as an At Large. Hopefully we win the AQ.

Not a lot of bubble losses in women’s hoops. Ladies must win against Bonnie’s and probably beat Dayton/prevent a loss before the finals in Delaware.

I think that would make them an absolute lead pipe lock. If they win out until the A-10 finals and don't make it we riot.

I've noticed that there are less losses with the women's bubble teams as opposed to when I tracked the men's bubble. More parity in men's hoops?

Definitely. The talent gap between high end and low end is significant in lady hoops.
