Here piggy, piggy! Tracking the A10 tournament PIG seeding

Unread post by RhowdyRam02 »

With the conference schedule half over, or just over half over if the George Mason game isn't rescheduled, it's probably time to keep track of our seeding possibilities for the A10 tournament, and for the 3rd year in Cox' 4 seasons we're tracking the bottom of the conference. We're tied for 10th place with Fordham and UMass, but we'd be the 12th seed if the season ended today due to losing to those teams in our last two games. Right now the bottom of the league looks like:

George Washington 4-5 (.444)
St. Joseph's 4-6 (.400)
Fordham 3-6 (.333)
UMass 3-6 (.333)
Rhode Island 3-6 (.333)
La Salle 2-8 (.200)
Duquesne 1-7 (.125)

In today's piggy games:

We're at VCU
Fordham at St. Bonaventure at 7 on ESPN+
St. Louis at La Salle at 7 on ESPN+

Low level Atlantic 10 action, catch the fever!

That basket by Leggett to put us ahead 56-54 vs LaSalle is looming large now. Imagine if LaSalle had hit 1 of those 2 3FG attempts in the waning seconds of that game for LaSalle to win by 1? We would be 13th place.

Looking at this - what 2-6 the rest of the way? 14-15 might get us a new coach. Especially ending the year 2-11 or 2-12.

I think our conference record (rather than overall) will be the determining factor in Thorr's decision, especially how they perform at the end.

After last night the standings look like this:

George Washington 4-5 (.444)
Saint Joseph's 4-6 (.400)
Massachusetts 3-6 (.333)
Fordham 3-7 (.300)
Rhode Island 3-7 (.300)
La Salle 2-9 (.182)
Duquesne 1-7 (.125)

In today's piggy games:

Duquesne at Dayton at 7 on ESPN+
Saint Joseph's at Davidson at 7 on ESPN+

But today's piggiest of all the games, the 5 star pillow fight of the day is:

George Washington at UMass at 7 on ESPN+

Used to be, we were all nervous about URI winning the remaining games, when we were on the bubble with a month to go.

Looked forward to reading Bubble Watch on espn.com every week to see our status.

Now we're nervous about LOSING our remaining games, so we can have hope for the future.

It's like we're living in an alternate universe.

Up is down, and visa versa....truly bizarro land.

Thanks ramster, I know you wanted to give Cox every chance to succeed...but it's just not happening nor will it in the future.

Imagine going thru this next year, and even the year after that?

If he stays I will go.......until a new coach is hired.

I did. Similar to how I thought Hurley should get the full year in the infamous Baron 2.0 thread. But that team had more talent than this team has. Time to move on. This isn't helping anybody. The board is more toxic than I can ever remember.

The A-10 PIG games in Washington DC are scheduled for Wednesday, March 9th. Based on how things are going with this program, the current coaching staff likely has just four weeks left.

The Baron 2.0 thread was dumb because of the trajectory of the program at the time. It was a frustration of "are we there yet" even though Hurley had already beaten multiple ranked teams and the team was in at-large contention the entire time that thread was in existence.

This toxicity? I think it's been boiling over because people had known Cox wasn't the right guy for years, but for whatever reason it wasn't a popular opinion to have. So now that it's obvious, I think you're just getting the result of pent up aggression and anger that we had the program built into a perennial A-10 power, and we let it all go to waste in such a short time.

You were around during the baron years? The board was way worse at the end of that because it was seemingly a discussion for 5+ years before it happened. This fall has been more sudden and the frustration more concentrated.

There's usually a recency bias that favors what's happening now versus then.

Both situations were/are bad.

It's just a shame that something like this is happening again to this program.

If URI won't spend the money to seriously upgrade the program, this will happen again down the road.

Makes no sense because last year's 10-15 and 10th place finish was worse. Plus consider that we had a Legend PG in Fatts Russell transfer to Maryland - a position we had to backfill this season. Last year was more unexpectedly worse than this year in some respects.
Losing Tyrese Martin and Jacob Toppin was horrendous for the program but most posters took more the approach that they were not that good anyway and don't let the door hit you on the way out. Martin had 18 points and 15 rebounds last night. We never filled his position with a rebounding guard. Terrell, Mathews and Tyrese Martin all provided that rebounding capability from the 3rd guard - a position filled now by El-Amin.
Year 1 was worse than it should have been considering the talent level, but again people did not read that first year for what it really was - very much underachieved. That Year 1 was our best shot at an NCAA Bid and we faltered down the stretch.

Bar I joined the Projo board in 2008 to push for Baron to be fired. That board was a lot of fun. Clammy, Ben, Rod, yourself, many others. It took years before that clown was fired. But the board was so much fun!!!

If we had made the dance in Cox's 1st year, everybody would have been happy at the time.

But think about this...would we be any better than we are now, even if that happened?

I'm only bringing this up, because if we had danced Thorr and URI would likely have extended Cox right then...and he would still have years left on his contract as of now.....and URI of course couldn't afford to fire him for some time to come.....scary thought.

Gandy was a pretty aggressive shit-poster, if I remember correctly. After a while, you kind of notice that some posters on a board just like to argue, haha. That kind of "act" tends to be better received when there is anger or frustration about the team, though. Kind of harder to channel it when they're legitimately rebuilding, or better yet, winning consistently.

Ugh I couldn’t stand him so glad that poster is gone !!

NBC Sports Network went off the air January 1st.

A lot of their content moved to USA Network.

So is the tournament on USA?

I would guess Rambone that the NBCSN games in the bracket will be USA. There are some games ESPN and CBS in the Bracket too.

Yeah Davidson was trending toward getting a bid then the loss set them back . It’s possible to get 2 in but I think the top teams will beat on each other and the resumes will ultimately fall short
