Once again, not bothering with an in-depth write-up since who knows if this game will be played. In theory URI will open A-10 play on the road against Davidson this Saturday. The Wildcats are led by preseason all-conference 1st team Junior guard, Hyunjung Lee, who is averaging 17.5 & 6.7. One player, who seemingly came out of nowhere this season is Junior guard Foster Loyer. He averaged only 4 points last season & exploded for 16 per contest this season. They really needed him to step up this year as their starting guards of last season (Carter Collins & Kellan Grady) both went to play their final season elsewhere. The Rams have lost 6 of the last 7 contests against Davidson. Hopefully Rhody can secure the victory, but I just don’t know if it will happen give the Wildcats have been one of the best teams in the A10 this season. My prediction, Davidson 72 – URI 64. Here’s hoping the Rams prove me wrong. Go Rhody!!

Davidson won at St Joe last night, their 10th straight victory.
They are 11-0 when scoring 70 or more, 0-2 when scoring 69 or less.
Rhody is heading down today, for fear of weather disruptions tomorrow.
This game will almost certainly be played.
Hopefully we can hold the Cats to 68 or so.

This could easily end up being our toughest conference game of the season.

Davidson has a solid starting 5, maybe the most balanced/complete in the A10.
They have the size upfront to compete with anybody.
Their backcourt has been playing well with Loyer quickly becoming one of the best PG's in the A10.
He is finally living up to his reputation from HS as a top 100 4* recruit named Mr. Basketball in Mi.
Plus, arguably the best wing in the conference in Lee (1st team pre-season).

They rebound extremely well and have a very good 2/1 assist/turnover ratio.
Also they shoot 50% FG and almost 42% 3 PT.

On top of all this we will have only played just 1 game (Div.11 team) in over 3 weeks.

With all this being said, our chances to win are extremely slim.
Not sure we can even keep it close.

I never look forward to playing Davidson because I always feel its a bad matchup for us regardless of rosters. They are a well coached team who does not turn the ball over and they shoot FT's well and play good defense and rebound. Even when we have the better roster they always seem to have our number, much like we have/had VCU's. This game is especially concerning since we haven't played a competitive game in weeks and we haven't showed we can be competitive with the few decent teams we've played. Davidson has an impressive win over Bama and they've taken care of everyone else rather easily. I'm trying to find some reasons why we stay in this game but I'm coming up empty.

Come on man.
There is only 1 poster I remember who didn’t like Davidson being added to this conference. Only 1. And I remember who because it was so strange for someone to think that way.
Never heard of a single other poster not liking Davidson added.
It was when Davidson first announced joining the statements were made. Who cares now, even that poster I’m sure has changed his mind and if not probably doesn’t remember saying it anyway. Doesn’t matter.

I agree with you, and most posters here probably feel the same way.

We always have trouble against them regardless of the roster.
Now that they seem to clearly have the better team, playing at home, and our long layoff, not much working in our favor.
All I can think of is our depth and athleticism (whatever that's worth, not much),

As I said before, very doubtful this game will even be close.
But who knows, maybe they will surprise us.

The majority of people on here liked the addition. I only remember a few people that questioned it, but that's the norm with those posters.

But you’re factually wrong here. Davidson has played 5 games in the last three weeks to our 2 games. They also played just three days ago. Which was also a conference game vs our only game in the last couple weeks being a D2 matchup. Don’t think it’s fair to say they’re dealing with the same layoffs as us

Yeah Stevey, aside from our long layoff issue, I understand how you are feeling.

I still think or maybe want to believe that we have the talent to compete with any of these teams.
What we are capable of compared to how they actually perform on a consistent basis has been very disappointing.

Davidson as we know is extremely well coached and makes very few mistakes.
They move the ball well and take advantage of every opportunity.

On the other hand, we go through too many bad stretches of poor play where nothing seems to go right for us.

I hope we can turn it around today, but I am just not feeling it.
Maybe they surprise and prove most of us wrong, that would be great.

I never said it was the same. Obviously we haven’t played as much as they have but people are acting as if they haven’t had any games cancelled and have played a full schedule… Two games in 16 days is not a lot of basketball…

We should not get killed by any A10 team this season..We need to expect more from this team and coach.

Davidson getting tough with entry requirements

Effective January 8, 2022, Davidson College athletics will require spectators attending men's and women's basketball games inside John M. Belk Arena to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
The requirement applies to fans age 5 and older. Those 12 and older must be fully vaccinated, while children between ages 5-11 will be required to provide proof of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
To meet the requirement, spectators must present their COVID-19 vaccination card or digital copy along with a photo ID. Faculty, staff and students can show their College ID as proof due to the college's vaccination policy.
Davidson College's indoor mask mandate will remain in effect.

He shot 7-9 FG, 4-6 3PT, and 0 turnovers.

URI's NET rank is now at #100 before it plays its first A-10 conference game. GMU moves ahead of it to #97. Today's game is Rhody's first of five games remaining with league teams ranked ahead of it in the top 100 NET. To date, Providence was the only OOC team in the top 100 that URI has played.
