Unless there's more going on this would seem to be an overreaction to this season so far. He's never had a losing record in the A10, has a record of 105-56 in the conference and went 14-6 just last year in conference. I would think with that kind of record here it would take more than one subpar start.

The real season for us starts Friday afternoon in Dayton

URI through 22 games
Runs Scored: 75 (3.4/gm)
Opponent Runs Scored: 207 (9.4gm)

While scoring is down quite a bit ytd from last season (5.8/gm), the pitching looks to be far more of the problem. They gave up an average of 5.6 runs per game last season.

Picone Named A-10 Pitcher of the Week
Story LinksKINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island junior Domenic Picone has been named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday evening by the conference office.
A native of Garnet Valley, Pa., Picone recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts on Saturday, leading the Rams to a 6-2 victory against 18th-ranked UConn. He took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, recording 14 outs before allowing the Huskies their first hit of the game.
Overall, the Rhody junior allowed just four hits during his 7.0-inning start, and did not issue a single walk.
The Rams are back in action on Tuesday, when they host Quinnipiac at 2 p.m.

We are deciding to be good now that conference play has started. Wouldn't be surprised if we win the regular season championship.

The fact that Rhody had an 8-3 game and even lead at some points against No.1 Tennessee who is looking like one of the best college baseball teams ever bodes well! The Vols are 27-1, the first team in 28 years to start 9-0 and they are killing everyone...but Rhody had an 8-3 game against them lol!

That's part of the reason I said before this weekend that the real season started Friday at Dayton. A team like URI, that looks to put together a difficult schedule, is always going to look bad playing the first month or so on the road against stacked teams who have been outside all year. Yeah, this year's start was worse than normal, but the team should really only be truly judged on A10 performance

Big A10 Conference game today for URI (5-3) and UMASS (6-2) at 12pm

UMASS won Friday 6-4, URI won Saturday 8-5

URI wins today 3-0 to take the 3 game series

Trystan Levesque pitched 6 shutout innings but then loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the 7th. Zach Fernandez came in and struck out the first two batters he faced with the bases loaded - no outs!! He stuck out the 3rd batter in the line up DH-Mike Gervasi and the clean-up hitter 2B-Drew DeMartino BOTH on swinging strike 3's. He then got Will MacLean to ground out to 2B. Fernandez pitched no-hits, no-runs for the last 3 innings of the game.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized Rhode Island redshirt sophomore Addison Kopack as the league’s Baseball Player of the Week while freshman teammate Eric Genther repeated for his second Rookie honors of the campaign. Additionally, Richmond graduate student Brock Weirather got the nod as the conference’s Pitcher of the Week. The awards were announced Monday following the conclusion of the eighth week of contests played April 11-17.

Hailing from Cumberland, R.I., Kopack posted a dynamic performance at the plate across a five-game stretch for Rhode Island, closing out the week batting .625 with a .652 on-base percentage and a 1.125 slugging percentage. Overall, the redshirt sophomore collected 10 hits – highlighted by a pair of homers and two doubles – while driving in eight runs and scoring six of his own, pacing Rhody to three wins and a series victory over Massachusetts. Kopack managed solid consistency as he garnered at least one hit in each of the five contests, including three multi-hit showings.

An outfielder out of Drexel Hill, Pa., Genther jacked a trio of bombs on the week, including a double-dinger game in Saturday’s win against UMass with one recorded as an inside-the-park home run. The freshman plated 10 total runs and scored four himself as Rhode Island picked up three wins across a five-game week, registering six hits with three walks and two hit-by-pitch advances.

URI split 2 games with Fordham on Friday. Saturdays game was moved up to Friday at 11am because of rain in the forecast - a wise decision. Sunday at noon is a big game 3 of the weekend series with Fordham.

Next weekend is a big series with URI hosting 3 games vs St Louis followed by 3 games the following weekend at Richmond to finish the A10 regular season. Top 7 make the A10 Tournament at Davidson.

Good decision, they prolly shoulda tried to squeeze in all 3. Hopefully nice enough to get tomorrow's game in. Bundle up if you go tho, gonna be sunny and 48 (RealFeel 38), with 20 mph winds, and gusts in the 40s. Maybe I'll throw on some winter gear and bring Gracie the Wonder Dog over for a bit....

Addison Kopack gets A10 Player of the Week and Eric Genther gets A10 Rookie of the Week

The Atlantic 10 Conference selected Rhode Island redshirt sophomore Addison Kopack as the league’s Baseball Player of the Week while freshman teammate Eric Genther collected his third-ever Rookie of the Week honors. Additionally, VCU sophomore Campbell Ellis earned Pitcher of the Week laurels as well. The awards were announced Monday following the conclusion of the 11th week of contests played May 2-8.

Kopack, a product of Cumberland, R.I., composed a hitting clinic throughout a strong 3-1 week for Rhode Island, finishing with a stellar .733/.762/1.200 slash line across the four-game stretch. The redshirt sophomore proved a lethal threat at the plate, batting 11-for-15 overall with two doubles, one triple and one dinger en route to posting seven RBI while scoring nine runs himself. The versatile athlete started at three different positions – shortstop, right field and first base – and struck out just once across 21 at-bats, leading the Rams offensively as they knocked off Quinnipiac in non-conference play before picking up a series win over Fordham

Genther, a native of Drexel, Hill, Pa., generated consistent offensive production for Rhode Island throughout a four-game stretch for the Rams, batting .529 (9-of-17) on the week while slugging .765 and posting a .600 on-base percentage. The freshman also managed to drive in four runs while scoring four of his own, swiping one base and striking out zero times across 20 total plate appearances.

Lost last two at Richmond to close the season at 14-10. SLU looks like it may finished 14-9 which might get the 3rd seed with less games played. If the teams were tied, I think URI would have had the tiebreaker.

Good for URI Baseball to get back into it after an extremely rough OOC schedule. Clearly the A10 Baseball conference is a one bid league with even the top team (Davidson) not making the top 60 in the college baseball RPI rankings. Regardless, Rhody still put themselves in for a chance to win the A10 conference tourney championship and gain a seed in the college baseball playoff.

Absolutely brutal loss for baseball today. Up 3-2 in the top of the ninth with 2 outs and a runner on 2nd we give up a base hit that results in a play at the plate. Called safe but I'm not sure on that call. George Mason then goes on to score four more in the top of the ninth to win it. We're in the loser bracket now either playing tomorrow at 7 or Thursday at noon

Sucks.

Pretty much means we are done. Probably don't have the bullpen to pull out a cinderella run.

And our season ends last night in a heartbreaker. Not as good a year as normal but we seem to have some young talent. Redshirt sophomore SS Addison Kopack from Cumberland was named to the all-conference first team after leading the league in batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS. Third baseman Anthony DePino and LF Eric Genther were named to the all-rookie team.

It's clear where we need to get better for next season. We scored the third most runs in conference play but we also allowed the fourth most earned runs. Need to get much better pitching than we got this year if we're going to be better next season

Definitely need to improve the pitching to be better in the future. There's a chance that Kopack isn't back next season either, as he has had MLB scouts at games and could potentially be drafted in the coming weeks.
