Week #3 - Games of Interest

St. Bonaventure , winner of the Charleston Classic moves up to #16 in both Top 25 polls. George Mason gets one vote in the AP poll.
So far in the OOC portion of schedule, A-10 record is a decidedly lackluster 36-29, .656. Right now the prospects for the A-10 getting multiple bids to the Big Dance are dim.

Compounding this dilemma, URI did not have a good week as the Rams blew the opportunity to notch a win on a neutral court over a competent opponent. The loss to Tulsa had a double impact since it also prevented URI from playing a top 100 team in Utah. The remaining OOC schedule offers only one opportunity to get a quality win - PC - and given the game is at the Dunk where the Rams haven't won since 2003, that prospect is slim. The rest of the OOC games are land mines, where a win provides marginal benefits and a loss has out sized impact. This may explain why some here are somewhat glum despite a 4-1 record to date.

Key URI metrics:

NET - NA
BPI - 106, down 1
Pomeroy - 95, down 4
Sagarin - 102, down 11

Monday action in the A-10:

Bradley vs. Duquesne, 1 PM. The battle for 7th place in the Paradise Jam. This game is underway and the Dukes lead early in the second half, 41-28.

Akron vs. Fordham, 5 PM. Opening game in the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, FL.

Hofstra at Richmond, 7PM. On ESPN+.

George Mason vs. Washington, 9:30 PM. Opening game in the Crossover Classic in Sioux Falls, SD.

In games involving URI OOC opponents:

Brown vs. Colorado, 3:15 PM. Paradise Jam.

Sacred Heart at Stony Brook, 6:30 PM. On ESPN3.

Harvard at Siena, 7 PM. On ESPN3.

If SLU loses then the A-10 goes winless for the night.

Literally one good team in this entire conference.

Watching this game is making me absolutely sick to my stomach. To think what Hurley is doing at UCONN is making our current situation just that more frustrating. I can honestly say that not 1 of our guys would even see the floor on this UCONN team. Hurley just gets his kids to play hard, period.

Beating Syracuse by 12 points is a solid A10 win and win for VCU. VCU looked good defensively and offensively.

Some teams like VCU are already improving, as they play more together and make POSITIVE adjustments.

We'll see if Cox can [for the first time] do the same.

Not holding my breath lol.

Not a game of interest, but Iona (5-0) giving #10 Alabama a game. Some people can just coach. Like Harrick. They just have it. Pitino has it. You may not like the guy but he gets his teams winning.

I don't think anyone ever doubted his ability to coach, everything else was a problem.

Who cares! They make the NCAA tournament for a few years than miss it on probation for a couple. Better than being URI, an irrelevant program who people think ending up in the top 7-8 in the A-10 is a big deal. URI is non existent in the college basketball world right now and need to cut ties with Cox at the end of the year.

Watching the Atlantis tourney final....they posted the 2022 tourney field...and Dayton is there.

Fat chance we get invited to any good November tourney next season.

Maybe we can start our own.....Little, and I mean Little, Rhody Classic, featuring URI, Bryant, Brown, and either RIC or J@W....I can't wait.

Maybe we could throw in RICC, Hendricken, Central, and SK too.
