Freshman Isak Oystese's has now scored four goals in URI's last five games - three of which have been game-winners.

From Gorhody……

Isak Oystese – Freshman – F – 6-0/175 – Oslo, Norway/Lambertseter Videregaende – KFUM Oslo

Chose to attend URI based on the positive things he heard about the university and soccer program from former students and fellow Norwegians.

Before URI: Was a member of KFUM Oslo, the same club that produced Rhody standout Edvin Akselsen… Helped lead team to a second place finish in the Interkrets B league in 2018, as well as a fourth-place finish in the Norway Cup… The following year (2019), his team captured silver in the Norway Cup… Was KFUM's Best Player in 2016, Best Young Player in 2017, second-leading goal scorer in 2018, and leading goal scorer in 2019… Registered 40 goals and 16 assists for KFUM from 2017-19.

Personal: Born April 6, 2001... Son of Ingun Tri and Brigt Oystese... Has an older brother, Simon… Favorite athlete is Ronaldo Lima… Favorite teams are Arsenal and Barcelona.

Elliott on Oystese: "Isak attended our ID clinic back in 2019 and we've kept tabs on him ever since. He comes from a very good club in the Oslo area that we are quite familiar with. On the field, Isak is a clever attacking player with a nose for goal. He will contribute to our front line immediately, on either wing or as a #9."

Attended my 3rd soccer game last night. Great win for the rams. Kudos to the team and Coach Elliott. Season looks very promising. Fairly large crowd, too.

Not sure where the #22 ranking for VCU comes from. The NCAA site has a coaches poll that had VCU 28th. We previously tied Providence, who is tied for 37th, and we finish our regular season at #24 Saint Louis. At 5-1-1 so far with a win and draw against two tough teams it looks like we have another good soccer squad down in Kingston this year

I'm not sure how legitimate topdrawersoccer.com rankings are, they're not recognized by the NCAA, but I'll take it. Probably where the VCU ranking came from

A10 weekly awards due out soon today.

Isak Oystese could get his 3rd Rookie of the Week award

Patrick Agyemang could get A10 player of the week after getting a key assist vs the big VCU win and scoring all 3 of URI’s goals vs Brown on Wednesday.

Agyemang has been a huge addition to the team having transferred in from Eastern Connecticut State. He had the humongous goal in the 88th minute in regulation to tie PC 1-1, then we went two Scoreless 10 minute OT sessions to finish 1-1. Crushing tie for PC as they were only 2 minutes from a 1-0 win.

It's official:

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Rhode Island junior Patrick Agyemang was named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while Duquesne junior Domenic Nascimben earned the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week. Rhody freshman Isak Oystese was seleted as the league's Rookie of the Week for the third straight week. The awards are for games played Sept. 13-19.

Agyemang, a forward, recorded seven points on the week, scoring three goals and adding one assist. All three goals came in Rhode Island's 3-1 win over Brown as he recorded URI's first hat trick since 2013. The East Hartford, Conn., native then assisted on the first goal of the game in the Rams' 2-1 win over No. 22 VCU to open conference play. Agyemang leads the team with 12 points through seven games played.

Nascimben, a goalkeeper from Sydney, Australia, posted eight saves in DU's wins over Canisius and GW last week. He stopped six shots in posting his first shutout of the season in the 4-0 victory over the Golden Griffins. Nascimben followed that with a pair of stops in the Dukes' A-10-opening 3-1 win over GW. He is averaging 5.0 saves per game in helping the Dukes to a 5-2 start.

Oystese scored the game-winning goal in URI's 2-1 double-overtime victory over No. 22 VCU. The decisive goal came less than a minute into the second overtime period when he forced his way through a double team of VCU defenders and then fired a shot into the back right corner. It marks the third straight week the forward from Oslow, Norway, has earned A-10 Rookie of the Week. He now has four goals in URI's last five games, three of which have been game-winners.

PREVIOUS MEN'S SOCCER WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island's Patrick Agyemang has earned a pair of national awards for his play last week, as College Soccer News and TopDrawSoccer both have named the the Rams' forward to their respective national teams of the week. The redshirt junior forward also earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week accolades on Monday.
Agyemang scored all three URI goals in the Rams' 3-1 victory over Brown Wednesday night, picking up Rhode Island's first hat trick since 2013. Three days later, he assisted on Rhody's first goal of the game to help the Rams knock off 22nd-ranked VCU by a score of 2-1.
A native of East Hartford, Conn., Agyemang currently leads the nation in shots on goal per game (2.71) and is tied for first in the A-10 in total points (12) and goals scored (3).

The Rams are back in action tonight at UAlbany. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Thankfully St Joe's did not beat Fordham as they settled for a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon. With URI losing to nationally ranked St Louis on Saturday night, a Hawks win would have meant Rhody was dropped to the #3 seed. URI likely still needs another win to strengthen its NCAA at large consideration. Currently sitting at 9-4-2 overall.

I was kind of surprised when you mentioned at large hopes, but it's a 48 team tournament with 24 at large berths. It will be tough but we're 35th in the RPI rankings. Davidson is 79th.

Oystese’s goal to put URI ahead 2-1 was a beautiful long shot, beating the goalie as he placed it perfectly to the left corner of the goal. It was his 5th game winning shot of the season

Fun to watch Oystese and Agyemang not just for their goal scoring ability but their overall play. Akselsen had two big assists tonight and plays a huge role in leading this team.

They're both soo good... Especially Agyemang, that guy is fast and technical, can bring the ball down well.

SLU is an absolute wagon. Would love to see URI take them down but I'm not optimistic. A win on Fri and playing the Billikens close in the championship should give them a good shot at an at-large.

The URI soccer program at URI is doing well and not only is there success on team play, URI soccer attendance is second only to the great Saint Louis program. In New England, Rhody also stands high on fan interest, second to UConn. Now if we can only make further improvements to the soccer facilities.

it's not even like the field is crap. the actual playing surface it immaculate, well kept, lights are nice. great back drop with the trees at night.

definitely needs some branding on the inside/windscreen branding. scoreboard/video board would be nice, elevated press box?

Absolutely massive match for the Rams. A loss to Duquesne will knock us out of the running for an at-large bid, while a win (assuming that St. Louis wins their semifinal) should virtually guarantee us a good enough RPI to be selected. I only wish that I didn't have to leave for the Ryan Center before the end of this one. Go Rhody!

URI loses to Duquense 2-1. Tied it up with ten minutes left only to give up another goal five minutes later. With a record of 10-5-2, this may be the end of the line for the season. Will now have to hope that SLU wins the title and the NCAA selection committee deems the conference worthy of another bid.

Nationally ranked St Louis won the A-10 Tournament over Duquesne 2-1 on Sunday to secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Billikens finish the regular season unbeaten at 14-0-4.

URI must now sweat it out. If a 2nd A-10 teams gets an at large, it would seem URI is best positioned. It was the #2 seed in the conference and has the best overall record after SLU.

The selection show is today October 15th at 1:00pm and can be viewed online (see link below). Forty-eight teams will be selected for the single elimination tournament field. Twenty-four conference champions will automatically qualify with 24 additional teams awarded at-large invites.
