Another 2* (verbal commits) when we offered, now his recruitment has blown up, offers from:
VCU, Virginia Tech, Clemson, BC, Seton Hall, Providence, Oregon State, Georgetown, Miss, Wake Forest, Florida, Arizona State, etc.

Re: '22 VA SG Justyn Fernandez
It’s common for players to be rated 2* prior to the summer before their senior year when they play AAU ball. Once they play the summer then many players rise to 3* or higher.
URI staff was just in Atlanta for tournaments in UA and EYBL.
Most all D1 teams have HC, AC or both at Nike EYBL. No fans are allowed at EYBL Peach Jam this year.

Re: '22 VA SG Justyn Fernandez
Recruiting is even wilder this year than usual. Yes, pay attention to offers more than stars but pay even more attention to RECENT offers and talk of who is really reaching out currently. A lot of guys got offers based on video. Now that they’re back watching in person, some players are going to fall off the radar of the teams who offered, others will rise. Good players are good players, but I miss URI being in the mix (and not fading away when the overall offers improve) for quality guys with other really good programs. It was just more fun to follow recruiting that way.

Re: '22 VA SG Justyn Fernandez
I used to hope that one or two guys would be rational and come to URI because it was a place where they could get minutes, become a star and get noticed.
Now, I feel like we have less of a chance to grab these guys because we cannot pay them. I feel that players will go to a P5 over URI even if they know they won't play because they will make more money as the 13th man at Alabama they they would as the star of URI.
I am actually waiting to see how the 'marketing money' changes the game. If it goes the way I think it will, I will probably not watch college basketball anymore. I know the game has always been tainted, but the most recent changes just make it legal.
I still can't get over the guys they have on tape and nothing was really done about it. Now, it will be the wild, wild west.

Well, at least some of the A10 schools are still getting 4 star HS kids.

Ranked #74 ESPN Top 100 Class of 2022
Guess the Visit to Providence September 24 is off? Ed never really wanted him anyway.
George Mason? Really?

New young dynamic coach in Kim English lands a big fish before he coaches a game. That’s impressive.ramster wrote: ↑2 years agoRanked #74 ESPN Top 100 Class of 2022

But but but...maybe they get a little blurb on ESPN and CBS! That was supposed to mean George Mason was back! He was supposed to put asses in seats and automatically leads to Ws!

Re: '22 VA SG Justyn Fernandez
It's been laid out plain as day here:
1) sign 4* top 100 kid
2) get a write-up on ESPN's college basketball page
3) ?????
4) profit

Re: '22 VA SG Justyn Fernandez (George Mason ---> PC)
Was he hurt or something this year? Seems weird that English wants to take a 6'5" guard to the Big East who averaged 14 MPG in the Atlantic 10.

Re: '22 VA SG Justyn Fernandez (George Mason ---> PC)
He just was not all that good. Didn't live up to 4-Star booking.
Watched him closely at the A10 Tournament in all George Mason's games and was not overly impressed.
These 4-star labels stay with these guys for years and years even if they don't exhibit that level of play in college. Like sooner or later that Diamond will shine, but sometimes it never shines.

Odds are he’s not done getting better.
Not a massive get for English, but makes sense for him to take the kid.

PC fans laugh at the A10. Now they're getting an A10 coach and A10 players (and already have been).

And trying to justify getting this kid is a massive get lolBillyboy78 wrote: ↑1 year ago PC fans laugh at the A10. Now they're getting an A10 coach and A10 players (and already have been).
It’s a sensible get because of English, but I don’t think anyone to get excited about.
