From 247 sports:

Maryland has yet to offer, but he says the staff has been in contact with his coach recently. Three of the schools that have offered Buchanan and have been standing out to him are Seton Hall, Rhode Island and George Washington.

“Seton Hall, they are in the Big East. I feel like that conference is underrated. A lot of people underestimate that conference. I like George Washington because it's close to home, really like 15 minutes from my house so it would be good for my family to get there. Rhode Island recently offered me a few weeks ago. The Mitchell twins told me a lot about the school and I just felt like they have a nice thing going with all the talent they are getting from the D.C. area.”

Ha. One site has him at 6’7 225 and the other at 6’5 190.
Love these sites. Hopefully the kid put on 35 lbs of muscle.

It sounds like the interest level has tempered (not sure from who) based on this article in July.

Heard GW. was leasing for him until he saw how bad they’ve been.

His recruitment has been interesting, wish we were still involved. He has great size at the wing and all the athletic tools.
Many thought he was going to Pitt after 2 visits there, one was official. Then his good friend and teammate 4* guard Judah Mintz decommitted from Pitt. on signing day.
Along with GW, Richmond was also recruiting him hard.

His game is eerily similar to Antwan’s. He’s not a shooter, but he’s solid inside the 3P line. Blue collar kid, works hard for his points.

Remember this quote when we were recruiting him in high school? Probably not a good sign.

Which was strange because they didn't have a coach or staff at the time.

Yes. It was strange because he entered the portal after Cooley was hired at Georgetown and before English was hired at Providence. Who was recruiting him? 😂 😂 😂

I don't know BAR, thinking our chances are very slim.
Unless KJ's connections are strong here.

Assumed it was KJ. I agree figured there would be stiff comp that’s why I was surprised to see some early Rhody mentions in his twitter.

If he's interested in an A10 team or two and he's also interested in a team from Rhode Island, then we should be heavily involved. We have to win a couple of these recruiting battles with these types of players.

He couldn’t even see the floor on a 19-15 Virginia Tech team. Not saying there isn’t some potential there but I would much rather have a proven talent or even Juco guy like Buru.

If he was good enough, he’d be on that court.

Red shirt is like,

Man, he has so much upside and potential and athleticism, but damn, is he raw as heck.

Think Foumena here. The player needs a lot of work and seasoning, and it really could go either way.

Based on the coaches' enthusiasm for Foumena, it would appear all the effort they put in him and continue to put in him, is showing promise.

Sometimes a redshirt can be that a staff wants a player to adapt academically for a year. Sometimes it's to get a player more physically ready, add some weight and strength. It doesn't mean they stink. We don't know the reason that VT decided to redshirt him.

I didn't say Foumena stinks. I saw raw. As in "I just started playing basketball 5 years ago" like Rory.

Who knows what the story is with Buchanan, but being red shirted means he wasn't ready.

I was responding to Dev Ram when he said that if Buchanan was any good, he would have played this year.

Didn’t health play a role in Foumena being RS’d or am I mistaken?

He did have the heart thing, but then he played in the pre-season scrimmage. So, I'm not sure why he was RS'd.
