Name: Corey Floyd Jr.

Position: Combo Guard

Schools Involved: Auburn, Bryant, Miami, Rhode Island, Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Temple, UConn, Virginia Tech.

Floyd is a combo guard prospect with decent size for the position pushing 6-foot-3 but has a strong and mature frame. The Roselle (N.J.) Catholic guard is a plus athlete for the position that shows up more in his first step, lateral quickness and change of direction than it does in above-the-rim explosiveness.

At this stage, his biggest value comes in on the defensive side of the ball thanks to his strong frame and lateral quickness, making him a plus-defender both on and off the ball. Offensively, he is at his best when attacking the rim both in the half-court and in transition. He has an impressive first-step and can use his body to get to the rim and create for others. Floyd can make shots from three but is streaky and will be an area to continue developing.

Seriously though, he kind of sounds more like a guy who will grow into his body like a Marcus Smart (who actually has a pretty thin frame although 220 lbs) unlike Jared who was JACKED from the moment he arrived.

He won't be coming here, huge reach for us. He may end up the best player in the state his senior year and will either stay close (SH, Rutgers) or go to a major program (including UCONN).

Koch post adds Villanova to the list. Floyd posted his commitment announcement to be made on January 14.

His game reminds me a little of Jared Terrell. Players that start as sophomore at a program like Roselle are ones I want.

Wouldn't be surprised if he stays in Jersey and commits to Rutgers same as Omoruyi, Mulcahy, and Harper Jr did. Pikiell has put together an excellent team and killing it in recruiting.

Hurley strikes again. He is going to be the worst thing to happen to Friartown. They took a direct hit in the pecking order when UConn rolled in.

This is a huge start to their '22 class. DH continues to kill it recruiting, following up after a stellar '21 class.

Announced he is reclassifying to 2021 and will be on the UConn roster this fall.
Good for Hurley to have him on campus this year and working with his teammates.

I think it is the problem with redshirting good players - you don’t know what they can do so you have to recruit the position as if that player is not going to contribute. Next thing you know you have the team scouring the transfer portal for proven college players that play the same position. Also the extra COVID year really messed with a lot of last year’s freshmen minutes. Add to that the immediate eligibility of transfers which actually creates roster issues imho - used to be you could take on a couple transfers and stash them at the end of the bench and they were not unhappy because it was the rule. On a 13 player team you could easily have 2-3 transfers sitting out but used as practice players, and have 10-11 players competing for your 8-9 rotation spots. Now if you play 8-9 guys, instead of having 2 or 3 upset players you have 5 or 6 because you don’t have sit out transfers, so you wind up bringing in guys and having them sit a year, but no one likes to sit. Roster management is a mess these days. Seems like Floyd is a victim of that management.

Generally speaking makes a lot of sense. Situationally here though Floyd was setting up to be a big factor in the rotation. Unless Hurley has been transparent in targeting more sure thing immediate impact transfers
