To me this is can be interpreted as a good sign - it is likely he looked at our roster and thought he wasn't going to play much initially.
When good recruits like this start doing that, it speaks volumes about what we have.

Not sure how hard we are pursuing a freshman big for this class, if we are I prefer Abdou Samb at this point.

While you are probably right, IMHO we should always be looking to add a big (6'9" and up), even if only as a role player. Every year.
Next year, we are in a unique position to take one guard and then "best player available". It will be fun to watch it play out.

I think any advanced big will probably look at the roster and think they won’t get lots of playing time. We had a kid back out of this incoming class for just that reason.

We will have to look at a hit or miss project like Tertsea

We really haven’t hit on those types yet

Cox wanted Samb over Geeter. Greater upside.

Yeah imo I think Samb could in the end be better then Geeter. May take a little more development to get there then Geeter but in a couple years I think Samb will be better. Some times things dont work out the way you think. But just a personal opinion.

Didn’t play at all Freshman year then he gets brizzed to make space on the roster same day a guy is added?

That didn’t happen. PC had two open spots. Plenty of room for Hopkins.
Greeter is leaving because he was recruited over.

PC has added 5 transfers.
They have now lost 3 transfers out and had 1 recruit decommitt.
They only have 4 scholarship players from last year’s team back.
Current roster:
4 returnees
2 Freshmen
5 transfers
11 players.

He was hurt last year his leaving actually leaves PC short front court players with Croswell and Moore leaving at years end. PC in good shape with a bunch of 23' bigs but they did not want Geeter to leave.

How about Castro (6'10") who also redshirted last season as a freshman.
He was a highly ranked recruit out of NJ.

Whatcha say about a two for one deal, we trade Illeri and Samb for Croswell?

Deal? Ok sounds good.

They expect big things from him but he will be only front court player left after next season.

I am sure Cooley will find some bigs in the portal.

He supposedly is in very good shape with some high school bigs and I know he wants to get to point where he only uses the portal to plug holes and get older players if needed.

Still for '22 or '23?
Sometimes risky to try and get a true freshman to make an immediate impact for 23-24, especially a big.

As discussed they should be okay this season in the paint, next year could be a problem.

With all our open spots, I wish we would take a serious look at Geeter, but not sure he is even on our radar.

Yeah I would be surprised if they did not at least inquire . Supposedly had had back issues I don't know how serious they were.

I assumed our initial connection was through TJ - but yes, there is no reason to not inquire about a guy who if healthy could be a high upside player.

Eastern Michigan got their top target and doesn’t have room for both. Looks like Emoni Bates is going to Louisville now. :D :D :D

Stan Heath graduated from Eastern Michigan

Some EMU fans thought Bates would go NBA G-League

EMU and Stan Heath taking advantage of the transfer portal and bringing players “back home”

Bates (Memphis) , legend Jeeter (PC), Tyson Acuff (Duquesne) and Jalin Billingsly (Georgetown)

Bates is a shocker as some thought Louisville or G-League. EMU fans are obviously very excited

Yes, getting Bates who was a 5* and one of the most sought-after recruits is quite a coup for Heath.
ECU will immediately become respectable in the MAC after going 5-15 last season.

I know Geeter was also a recruiting target for us, but I always preferred Samb.
I thought Samb has more upside, talent and overall basketball skill.
I guess we will see how it works out with Samb for us (who got the best player) and Geeter for EMU.

You mean Bates and Geeter, unless Samb is one of those roster changes between now and Nov 1 I believe will happen - especially with 4 incoming transfers now in past couple of months.

Actually Ramster, I meant comparing Samb for us and Geeter for EMU (who got the best player), just didn't make it clear.
Corrected it, thanks.
