I have changed the Providence game from home to away with today's news that the 2020 game was cancelled and I've moved the Brown game from away to home due to the assumption we'll play the game at home due to losing the home game against them in 2020 as well

In addition to having a team that needs a lot of work, BC, Boise State, and Brown isn't exactly a compelling non-conference home schedule. Lot of work to do on this schedule. This assumes the Brown game will be home and that the Mountain West will want us to compete in the A10-Mountain West challenge

We’ll have a crappy OOC schedule. Cox isn’t going to schedule the normal tough teams because he knows his job will be on the line.

Definitely will have bad teams to pad the win column.

I'm less concerned about the schedule. Who is playing point guard next year? Who is making up for Fatts and Shep's points? I don't see this team competing for anything next year. Freshman stars? Nope. I have relegated myself to the Rhody Pub if it's open next year.

Many good teams will also not want to have URI on their schedules. Could be an NET anchor based on last year showing and future expectations.

I'm still thinking, roll the tix over again...for a sit wherever you want kinda season...a 'bridge' year, if you will. The sucky attendance numbers can be blamed on COVID hesitancy....(also a good roll-over excuse)....and plenty of good $10 seats available?

I doubt URI will be happy if revenue is down next season.....but it will be, guaranteed.

A new coach could change the dynamic, though.

What tournament is URI slated to participate in next year?

Also regarding tournaments, can URI get back into the HOF Tip Off Tournament at Mohegan Sun sooner given the switch this past year? It is my understanding that that teams can only be in a tournament every fours years. URI was in the HOF Tip-Off in 2012, 2016, and was slated for 2020. URI switched up some of its games from what had been scheduled at Mohegan Sun this past year. Does this past year stillcount as being in the HOF Tip Off given the changes and mean URI has to wait four years (2024) before it can be in it?

I'd have to think they'd be willing to accommodate given the circumstances. That said many schools tentatively punch out their OOC Tournament years in advance so there's probably already a plan in place for where future URI teams are headed.

As for next year, haven't seen URI associated formally with any tournaments yet. Just from what I can find for the A10, looks like St. Bonaventure is headed to Charleston (West Virginia, Clemson, Marquette), Duquesne is headed to the Paradise Jam (Creighton, Colorado, Colorado St), and VCU is headed to Atlantis (Michigan St., Baylor, Loyola Chicago, UCONN, Syracuse, Auburn, Arizona St.).

Other tournaments that are currently full include 2k Classic, Roman Main Event, HOF Tipoff, Maui, Fort Myers Tip Off, Roman Legends Classic, HOF Classic, Emerald Classic.

Two tournaments with limited known participants are the Orlando Invitational (Iona only known team) and Diamond Head Classic (Hawaii only known team).

Some past tournaments I haven't seen listed include Cancun, Myrtle Beach, Bahamas, MGM Resorts Main Event, Gulf Coast, Cayman Islands Classic, NIT Tipoff, Wooden Legacy, Las Vegas Invitational, Boca Raton Beach Classic. Do all of these event still exist?

Have to expect a bunch of cupcakes for multiple reasons: good team won't want to come to Kingston because we won't be a good win, only a bad loss...also, Cox is going to want to get his win total up with this being a make or break year.

Both have had success in the A10, so I'd take either. Sean is more accomplished, but Archie doesn't have nearly the dirt on his resume.

UMass will host former A-10 members Rutgers and Penn State this season in Amherst. Neither of these teams has ever visited the Ryan Center since it opened two decades ago. The Minutemen have also hosted Temple post A-10 membership while URI has not. How is it that UMass gets them at home?

Football could be a possible factor but UMass FBS football is pretty dreadful. They did play at Rutgers back in 2019. Haven't played PSU since 2014.

It’s a home and home, and it’s not like we don’t get teams on Rutgers and Penn St’s level.

We’ve played/will play Houston, Seton Hall, Alabama, BC, and PC in Kingston in recent years.

When did URI ever host TWO BIG TEN schools at the Ryan Center in a single regular season? By my recollection, Rhody has hosted just two BIG TEN schools (Nebraska & Northwestern) in the entire 20 years of the Ryan Center and one of these contests was an NIT game sited on seeding.

I for one won’t complain about our OOC schedule. Ever since Hurley was here, we’ve hosted extremely solid opponents, as well as played in great MTE’s.

You’re nitpicking complaining about us not being able to host two B1G teams in the same season.

I mean, there is the Big Ten, and then there is Rutgers. This would be the equivalent of like Bryant booking games with Fordham and Duquesne - it's nice that they're getting home games with teams from better conferences, but you're not fooling anyone that you have another quality win because you beat a bottom feeder from a better conference.

Rutgers may of been, but not anymore.
Steve Pikiell turned their program around.
Last year (2020) they finished tied for fifth in the BIG and would of certainly got a bid.
This past season they beat Clemson in the 1st round and just barely lost in the final seconds to #2 seed Houston in the second round.

Agree Jersey77, comments are way off on Rutgers and Penn State - they are not bottom feeders and the Big 10 was ranked the most competitive conference:

Still zero news about a possible exempt tournament for Rhody next season. Many URI opponents are however already locked into some high level tourneys:

St Bonaventure - Charleston Classic
Field: Boise State, Clemson, Elon, Marquette, Ole Miss, Temple, West Virginia

VCU - Battle for Atlantis
Field: Arizona St, Auburn, Baylor, UConn, Loyola-Chicago, Michigan St, Syracuse

Dayton - Orlando Classic
Field: Alabama, Iona, Kansas, Miami, 3 teams TBA

St Joe's - Wooden Legacy
Field: Georgetown, San Diego St, USC

Duquense - Paradise Jam
Field: Bradley, Brown, Colorado, Colorado St, Creighton, Northeastern, Southern Illinois

Providence - Empire Classic
Field: Gonzaga, Louisville, Oklahoma St
