It's the right thing to do. Just sinking in that we've seen the last of Cyril and Dowtin in a URI uniform. That stings.

And there it is. The official end to one of URI's all time greats careers. Jeff Dowtin. Watching him as a freshman you knew there was something special. How he came in and settled it all down when Jarvis got hurt. He will be missed.

I think there’s a chance they will change the term to suspension and the powers that be will meet in the next week or two to determine if they can resume with the conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament in 6-8 weeks. The logistics may be impossible to overcome, but I think there could at least be a discussion. There’s so much money involved. The NBA is stating suspension, not cancellation.

Following the lead example of its many conferences, the NCAA has no choice now but to cancel. No NCAA, No NIT, no other sports until further notice.

Can't help but feel awful for Dayton fans.
Imagine if Rhody played themselves to the #1 seed line, with the first 2 rounds in Hartford or Boston and they cancel the tourney. Historic season completely upended. Closest equivalent I could think of was the 1994 Expos who had the best record in baseball until the strike occurred. And never came close to matching that again.

completely agree...like what the fuck are the NBE officials thinking?

Big 12, Big10, ACC, AMerican, A10, the list goes on. Why play?

I'm WFH as what a lot of companies are having employees do (if you can work virtually), so I'm flipping between the SJU vs Creighton game and ESPN for updates

Incredibly tone deaf, and they are getting rightly killed for this. Makes absolutely zero sense. Even if they aren't as concerned for whatever reason, they can not allow themselves to be the only conference that continues with their tournament.

The biggest problem in my opinion is a lack of leadership and a cohesive message from the NCAA.

This sucks, but it is the right thing to do. I do think they can possibly delay a couple of weeks and if things are better, hold the NCAA tournament at smaller venues with no fans. Maybe cut it down to 16 or 32 or something.

The Big East looks tone deaf with their tournament being the only one continuing. They are following the playbook of the NFL playing its games right after JFK was assassinated. Some 56+ years later, that decision continues to be discussed and still haunts the league.

also feeling bad for Dayton. was looking forward to seeing them make a run. it's just a matter of time before the NCAA cancels. as odd as it sounds, it does take the sting out of the last few weeks of our season. how sorry for ourselves would we all be feeling if we were a lock to dance this year?

I’m definitely disappointed. I was not as hopeful as some that URI was going to save their season in Brooklyn but I was looking forward to watching them try. But if this is where everything is headed, I’m not going to argue against it. First and foremost is people’s health and safety and if they can’t guarantee that then they shouldn’t be playing the games.

We are living in interesting times, that’s for sure.

Organizations never want to be first or last in a situation like this. Ivy League got mocked for starting this off and Big East is getting criticized for being last

I will say I think it is dumb now that everyone is there in NY already. You could close the universe a lot and make it safer and the kids realistically aren’t going to be affected by this.

These measures will not contain this thing, I now fully expect the next 3 to 6 weeks of our lives to be upended and we all still get it anyways.

Just the opposite. At this point, the NCAA Tournament seems highly unlikely. Could have been the best year ever for URI to piss away a bid.

Fordham was +3 vs George Washington and won by an impressive 20 points. Was looking forward to Fordham vs Duquesne today.

Imho they need to postpone not cancel these tournaments think about all of the low major conference teams that worked their asses of to get to the tournament POOF GONE, all of the seniors last games in the tournament POOF GONE, it’s sad because it’s the best time of the year in sports

Well, If there was a time to collapse and blow a bid this is the year to do it!

As much as I wanted to believe, I think deep down most of us knew this team's season was over after the losses to St Louis and Dayton. We should of been a tournament team, regardless of the conference tournament so I view this season as a disappointment.

Jeff and Cyril are both all time greats and I wish they went out on a higher note. They will be sorely missed.

I feel so bad for a team like Dayton. Imagine this happening in Dan's final year? We would all be devastated and we were only a 7 seed...

The NCAA is looking worse by the hour. With all major league sports shutting down and college conferences cancelling their tournaments, it leaves the NCAA Tournament as the only major sporting event that is still on. We all knew this organization had its issues but its lack of decisive action to fully protect its student athletes and staff makes it stand out.
