Top 25 Polls 2019-20

Unread post by Blue Man »

Since this is going to rapidly take over the NET thread for as long as this winning streak keeps up. I figured separating the two would be good.

Rhody with 6 points from 2 voters this week, marking their first appearance anywhere near the polls this season.

Fruit baskets on the way for Adam Grosbard from the Orange County Register in LA and Dave Preston from DC sports radio. They both had us at 23rd.

https://collegepolltracker.com/basketba ... -rams/2019

KMac - don't let another week go by without us appearing on your ballot if we go 2-0!

If we win out this week, I can see us checking in at 24/25 next week.

But, one game at a time!!!

I'm driving up there to buy Grosbard a beer this afternoon. Great name to. I'll see if I can get us Top 20 by next week.

I really could care less right now about top 25 votes. Duquesne had 13 votes last week and look at their two subsequent games.

Don't worry about polls. Just focus on the next game in front of us and hope we keep winning.

I think if we win both games this week we probably check in around 26-29

Then we win next 2 and you will see our URI Rams enter the top 25 AP

IDK reef if we push to 16-5 with another win over VCU (not assuming but for the fancy of this conversation) I would think we would pop up maybe in at least one of the polls?

all of our metrics would be probably 45 or below. If our ooc opponents can keep up the good work and we keep up the good work, kinda hard to ignore us, firmly in second place in an up year for the A10 (who knows? maybe tied for first).

If we win out the week, I'm expecting the typical texts from certain friends asking me how we're doing it, how we look, if I think we're legit, etc. Popping into the top 25 later in the season is Big. Raises the eyebrows of part time bb fans.

One win at a time, and for some games, not just one half at a time, but one 4 minute chunk at a time. If you win each 4 minute segment of a half by 1 point, you win that game by 10 points.

Let’s see if we crack the Polls come Monday.

It’s a double edged sword. They deserve the recognition, but can they HANDLE it.

You see it all the time, a team gets ranked and they lose to a team they have no business losing too.

I’m praying this team is embracing this underdog/still have work to do mentality. Too much basketball left to play.

Well Crieghton just won at Nova and they were 26th in the poll and we have a lot of teams in front of us.

I think we will have to win out the next two weeks to get in.

Depends what happens today. Creighton will jump back into top 25 LSU already won but 5 more games for teams ranked 20-25. If a few of them lose you never know they could sneak in. But most likely not.

I haven't been on a major college basketball team before, so I have no idea what they can handle, but... I would think they'd handle it well.
I mean, to reset the reality ship... don't you just have to say, "Brown" ? That loss sucked bad, but seems it could serve as a stay-focused motivator....
Keep winning and the public probably mostly forgets it, but would think/hope the team never does?

To me no need to be ranked right now.

More important to be ranked at the end of the regular season.

If we are we will be dancing as a single digit seed.

Players start seeing us ranked and believe the press clippings and they could become less focused...it's happened before.

Hopefully this group of guys won't let it go to their heads if we do get ranked soon.

My guess is next polls have us as others receiving votes...

AP 37 (up from 6?), Coaches 9

Win the next three and Top 20.

Not sure I can see this team losing focus again...(Brown)...
Keep winning, get ranked, win...get ranked higher.

We'll likely be around 30th to 32nd.

Good place to be right now...agreed IF we win our next 2 easily, then we could be on the verge of the top 25, and if we beat Dayton we will be for sure.

Again it's the beginning of February.....if we're ranked early in March then that's what counts.

I’d rather not even be ranked. It puts a effing bull’s-eye on your back and every team you play takes it up to another level. Keep us in the 30 range and out of the spotlight until the end of the season! And other than Dayton They are all must win From now on!

"I'd rather not be ranked" Seriously? Like...really?
Maybe we should also lose to Dayton this time...you know...so they'll be 'worth more' next time!
Let's just phone in the L to the NET PI Quad Squad now, maybe that'll help pump up Dayton tires.

Good grief, that game could well be to win "the Dayton Conference", and it's being looked at like a throwaway game...

I don't think that's what he was trying to say. I didn't read it like that.

In the past, Baron had a lot of ranked teams early on, that couldn't take the pressure of being ranked. The Conference teams in the A-10, in particular, would eat them up and spit them out like piranha on the feed. Kind of like how Duquesne was this year. Paper tigers.

Now I do not think this team is a paper tiger nor do I think we should assume this team under Cox would fold like that simply by being ranked. But it wasn't like the comment itself didn't have any merit or any history to it.

I actually think now is an appropriate time for the team to get a ranking, as opposed to earlier in the season. They are ready now.

Seems like I’m in the minority here. I could care less about polls at this point. I barely even look at the the weekly rankings. On selection Sunday, no one will remember who the 20th or 25th ranked team was in early February.
It’s cliche, but keep taking care of business and the selection will take care of itself on Match 15.

Please don’t bring up that prior coaches name when comparing this team to those. His teams got worse as the year went on this team is putting it together.

Those years need to be forgotten about and removed from history just like the liberals are trying to do with the Civil war.

I don't "care" about the ranking so much really, it doesn't make or break a season, but hell yeah I want it. Being ranked is a sign of a good team that wins a lot. I want to be a good team that wins a lot.

Of course you want the ranking. The ranking brings your highlights on every sports center and shows like that.

Your name is talked about whenever you play.

It’s good publicity for recruiting and being recognized

I thought the influence of history (for New Englanders anyway) was supposedly abolished on October 27, 2004?

I'm thinking, get ranked asap, win more, get ranked higher, repeat...
They've already put together an 8 game winning streak...9 games is only one more than that. Yeah, tougher schedule, but much better team. They can do it, don't even think they can't, unless they lose. There's no reason to think that until they lose. If they do, fine, reassess, I just don't want to think about 'if we lose' scenarios until unless they happen. There's no reason to, except negative history, and it need not have a hold. Instead, I'm thinking about the "what the ____?" looks on Flyer faces with under 5 to go and us up a dozen at their place. Makes life funner. :D
