Rhody finishes up their second game of a two-game road trip when they head down to Fairfax, VA to take on George Mason. URI is coming off of a road win at St Bonaventure while George Mason is coming off a loss at Davidson. URI can’t afford to stumble here as they look at ahead to a big home game against VCU. This one has trap game written all over it. Take care of business, get the W & come back to Kingston healthy ready to take on VCU. Like the Rams, the Patriots have starting guards (Javon Greene & Jordan Miller) who play over 30 minutes a game & are their 2 leading scorers. George Mason embarrassed Rhody last year in Kingston, so hopefully the Rams return the favor this time around. My prediction, URI will get the 74-67 win on Tuesday night. Go Rhody!!

Unlike the recent sold out conference games at SBU and VCU, this contest will likely not be in a really hostile environment. GMU is drawing just 3,839 at the 10k seat on campus EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, VA. Had only 2,652 for their last home game against UMass last Wednesday. Would not expect a big uptick this Tuesday with the Patriots coming off a loss and a stretch of games where they have gone just 2-6.

GMU, like SBU this past weekend, will also be without one of its better players. Senior guard Justin Kier has since January 15th been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a foot injury.

We may be starting (or already are) to be that team that brings people out to games on the road. Bonnies sold out against us,
(Their second sellout this year) Brown, VCU also sell outs.

This another one of those games you try to survive anyway possible whether winning by 1 or 25. It is never easy on the road. They need to come out and play from in front for a change similar to VCU

URI sold out brown with URI fans in the seats. VCU is always sold out.

I always think of Jamal’s big 30+ point game at Mason.

Put it this way. Look at the remaining schedule. There are games that would be considered "acceptable losses" like @ Dayton, or @ Davidson. This isn't one of those games, a loss here would derail what this team is trying to do.

For whatever reason, I remember the game vs George Mason last year more than any of the other A-10 games I saw.

They are a team that gets the maximum out of the sum of their parts. They are well coached, in sync with one another, and love to force the opposing team into hurried mistakes. This will be another rung up the ladder, expect more than what we saw from the Bonnies, it will be a close scrappy fight on the road (this is a recording).

Any updates on JH's status?

I'm not too worried about this one.

You can never be sure, but they are really reeling after Kiers injury.

They will not challenge us like St Bonaventure did.

Playing Umass next week is much scarier to me...

We have plenty of land mines left on the schedule but this is not one of them. Definitely similar talent to St Bonnies with less of a home field advantage. Rams need to focus and realize what’s at stake, which they certainly do.

No one thought Brown was a landmine either.

Don't kid yourselves. They are all landmines. All we need is for our team to put it on cruise control for one game.

Don't encourage the cruise control feature. George Mason isn't going to roll over and play dead for you at home, like any team on the Conference schedule, if they sense blood, the fangs are coming out.

This is a land mine. Every god damn game in this conference except for like 5 is a landmine.

The idea that we can roll the ball out and win has been proven false time and time again.

I think we take it too - but I don’t think it’s a cakewalk that we can pencil in.

Brown and Richmond were “gimmes” too.

Nothing is easy. Lose this and kiss the at large good bye. MUST WIN.

That's precisely it.

I think this team has the "potential" to be as good as the 98 elite eight team. I really do.

It also has the potential to lay a massive egg on any given night, if they believe their press clippings.

I don't care what their fans say, the fans aren't their players. No one is just going to let you show up. This might be the biggest game of the year left on George Mason's schedule, as far as they are concerned, they are going to try to make it their NCAA play in game.

I also recall the disaster last year... they had a freshman #11 who had redshirted all year until our game. They scrapped the redshirt plans, he came in and looked like the best player on the floor that day, leading GM to victory.

URI doesn't dominate teams. I'm not sure if you noticed.

They come back in the second half, in some Rocky inspired, cardiac kid like fashion.

They dominated LaSalle in one "half" of basketball. The second half.

So, even if they pull a stinker in the first half, all is not over. But one day, someone will shoot the lights out in the second half. They need to concentrate on playing every game that much better than the last, one at a time, regardless of the other team's record.

Oy that game. I think Silverio made a couple threes but the rest of the team was like 0-25 or something. Yikes.

Check out the George Mason message board . They are really down on their team right now . Everyone is predicting a double digit loss for the home team. Have never seen such pessimism on a message board since Baron left Kingston. Hope their players are feeling it too.

I'm telling you, it won't matter.

This team, the URI team, isn't going to all of a sudden become something they aren't. I know people, desperately, want them to all of a sudden, flip a switch, and decimate a lower ranked team, but it's not going to happen. And you can crunch the numbers all you want, but it's not based on numbers.

What started this 6 game win streak? Do you remember?

It was sitting Fatts to start the game. And very few people caught the significance of that. It still amazes me that so few people on here realize what was going on there.

Remember when someone said during LaSalle, that Cox, like Skinner, believes the second half "is the half that matters"? That's what is going on here. This team plays best, when it's behind. They came out like gang busters against Maryland, only to watch Maryland take the second half and pass them in the high speed lane.

Cox wants to be the team doing the passing, not vice versa.

He actually handicapped himself against LaSalle, keeping CL out the last 10 minutes of the first half, and allowed them to go ahead.

He did the same thing last game, as soon as Fatts got in foul trouble, he yanked him, for nearly the entire 10 mins before the half.

Watch for the same thing this game. Either CL, Fatts, Jeff, or the first starter to get into foul trouble, he'll pull for the duration of the half, let the team play handicapped for the rest of the half. It's kind of like drafting in NASCAR.

That's how this game will go. That is the game plan.

The game plan is: use the first half to size up your opponent. Scout them, check their tendencies, push them, pull them, find their pressure points, and then make a bunch of adjustments at half time and come out of the locker room like a completely different team.

I really think that was the major adjustment, when we lost against Brown and Richmond, and it was do something drastic, or risk watching the season go down the crapper.
