Rhody starts off conference play by taking on Richmond at home. The Spiders come to Kingston with an A10 win under their belt already as they rolled St. Joes by 30+ at home. As we are all painfully aware, Rhody is coming off a brutal loss at Brown. Richmond coach Chris Mooney, who somehow returned for his 15th year at the helm, will have his Spiders ready to pull out an upset victory. Richmond has wins over Vandy, Wisconsin, & Boston College this season. They are led by guards Blake Francis & Jacob Gilyard. If they get going it may be a long day for the Rams. Hopefully we will see some more efficient shooting from Fatts, who is shooting 28% (10% from 3) over his last 3 games. I thought Dowtin’s shooting turned the corner after the Middle Tennessee game, but it fell back to earth with a 3 for 12 performance at Brown. Grant Golden vs Cyril should be a fun match-up. Hopefully Sunday’s game will be the same as the last year’s match-up as Rhody led wire to wire in Richmond.

.....according to Team Rankings, we are now a 21% to Dance, down 16 as result of Brown loss....their #70 ranked Spiders game against their #81 ranked Rams give URI a 58% to win......also, they predict now the Rams will finish overall 19-11 and 11-7 in A-10.....

Seems fair. In the end, I don’t think the result of the Brown game will be the difference in us getting an at-large bid or not. To me, the pain of the Brown loss is the realization that we may not be good enough to go 13-5 or 14-4 in the A-10. That’s why this Richmond game is huge. A loss would all but confirm that. A win would flip the script.

Richmond is 11-3. I’ve read numerous posts the past month about how Richmond played and easy schedule, Richmond is overrated, an aberration. Grant Golden is not much good, etc. so if we win I don’t think it “flips the script” as you say. It’s actually a must win in that we could end up tied with Richmond at playoff time and the tiebreaker would go to the winner of Sunday’s game. We do NOT play home-home with the Spiders.
Can’t lose at home to Richmond.
My concerns on the Brown game are serious. We don’t shoot the ball well as a team and to offset that we must rebound well, defend well and most important PASS well to get the easiest shots possible. Launching 3Ps like we did is a recipe for disaster for a below average shooting team.

2 Big home games coming up for sure - Richmond and Davidson.

We have to take advantage of our strengths, and that's our inside game with the addition of Walker.

We did nothing of the sort against Brown.

We will not beat anybody on our 3 pt. shooting.

And if the defense plays like it did last night, forget it.

Has to be a complete 180 against Richmond, or else it's a loss, and kiss our ass goodbye.

If the offensive game plan is anything like it was against Brown, then we have to question the coaching.

And defense is all about effort. I expect a much better effort against Richmond.

Of course that's a home game. Who knows what we'll get on the road.

Of course Bone, it also means Cyril needs to be in the paint and not arm waving at the 3 pt line.

Like was said, who is the moron who drew up that half court strategy?

What's the quote?

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Also the defensive strategy....let them shoot wide open 3's, they will miss them! WRONG.

Do you really think that was the defensive strategy?
A Brown player beat his defender. RI help came which left a player open in the rotation.
The Brown loss is on the players.

If your week starts on Monday, there is one big game this week (Richmond) and two next week (Davidson & VCU). I wasn’t think on Friday of the VCU game next Saturday.

Two expected losses in most scenarios are at VCU and at Dayton. I consider the home games vs VCU and Dayton as the big games. I guess beating Dayton anywhere will be a Q1 win. Maybe beating VCU away would be a Q1 win and beating them at home a Q2 win.

83, I was being facetious. We did so many things poorly against Brown, that it's hard to focus on just one area.

We are a very unbalanced team. Only 2 guards and our opponents are going to take advantage of it whenever they can.

When they both play poorly we will lose.

We should be focusing on our inside game, with the addition of Walker that's our strength.

Having Cyril out by the 3 pt. line is about the dumbest offensive game plan I've ever seen...mind boggling dumb.

We won't beat good teams with our outside shooting, that's for sure.

And we're sucking again at the line. Cyril hasn't made a free throw in 2 games....he's terrible at them.

He's had one or 2 good games shooting them, and the rest?

Richmond is a finesse team. They have 1 true big, shoot the ball well and run their motion offense. We have to kill them in the paint, turn them over on D and play more physical.

They have a little more athleticism this year than in years past, but they do not have the talent we have up front. Have to use it as our advantage.

Cant leave them open for 10 threes like the Brown game either gotta step it up on D big time.

This is the best team we have played since WVU.

No one could foresee just before season's start that Sheppard would be declared ineligible and that Walker would not become eligible until December. Nor did anyone foresee the Hammond and Tate situations. Add that to the known losses of Thompson and Preston, the question is how different is this team from last season's. Last year we saw a weak shooting team on all key metrics; a team which at one point was two games below .500 and only a four game win streak at end of regular season provided the confidence going into tourney play. They finished the A-10 at 9-9.

Other than MT game most of the this year's games have been struggles, this is not a good road team and we have nine of those babies coming up. Given the additions and subtractions, is this team different or simply a clone of last year's team??? We get another clue to that by 2 PM Sunday.

Richmond runs a similar offense to what Brown runs and with better athletes. This is a game where our defense can be exposed if we do not adjust to screens and help defense assignments. I'm most interested to see what Cox does with the offense in this game, with our team struggling so much from the perimeter, do we pound Jermaine and Cyril or do we continue to fire away from the perimeter. Need to jump out early and take command of this game, we are not a good team when we are chasing points.

The team is going through some adversity. The leaders need to lead and make sure they finish their senior year the way it should be finished. URI has the most accomplished roster it has had in a very long time.

Go on a run through the early part of the conference schedule and they will be on track.

U R RIGHT! If you are a true fan, you show up and ROOT as hard as you can.

I do not blame the players as much as I blame the coaching during the game. Little or no modifications to either offense or defense throughout the game. was like a Y pickup game. Felt like DC offensive adjustments were "Fatts" do your thing." It wasn't just Cyril not being used, Harris also underused.

For example DC never made an adjustment on their big man bringing the ball in the back court with Cyril putting on t pressure, that required the coach a way to get Fatts putting the pressure on their big man in the back court.
And of course, the basic question of-- why keep giving open 3's because of their"help" defense. That had to be the coaches direction and not the individual players. etc etc etc

The truth is that DC was not effective and was out coached in this particular game.

Predicing Rhody will easily beat Richmond with the crowd support and betting DC will also be more on his game in this one.

Can't blame the players for that.

In the perfect dream Rhody finishes second in the A10 closely behind Dayton who is ranked in Top 15.
