URI is looking to get back on track after a suffering a tough loss at Maryland. This game at The Ryan Center is finishing up a home & home series in which Alabama won the opening game 2 years ago at home, 68-64. Dowtin, Cyril, & Fatts are the only members of this current team that played in the last match-up. Dowtin is hoping for a better shooting performance than the last game where he shot 2-11 at Alabama. Alabama is a guard heavy team, so we won’t have the height issues like we faced with Maryland. Alabama has a new coach this season, Nate Oats, who coached at Buffalo the last few years & as most of us already know, he was EC Matthews’ high school coach in Michigan.

Was not very impressed with this Bama team from watching the Penn and Florida Atlantic games. Oates will build that program but he doesn't have the players yet. I didn't see any part of their team that is better than ours and they do not take great care of the ball, this is a game we absolutely need to win, especially at home.

Interesting contrast in styles. They are playing the Oats style where they try to get a shot up pretty quickly, shoot a lot of threes. It's pretty simplistic but this one will certainly come does to 3pt%. They are under 30% for the year and if they are 10-34 or something like that, Rhody should handle them but anything north of 33% it will be a very competitive game.

I agree. This is a game that we need to win. No excuses. Like others have said Oates is a very good coach that will have this team much improved by the end of the year. Like URI they have had depth issues with injuries, ineligible players and transfers. This is a good time to catch them and hope they get better so the win has some value later in the year.

As others have said, we really need to win this game. A tough OOC schedule necessitates winning nearly all of the five home contests. The team has to improve its shot selection and make baskets. Shooting in the low 30% range is not going to win many games.

I am really interested to see how this plays out. I thought he would wait for a low/mid tier Big 10 gig. He might have even been the co-front runner for Michigan with Howard if he hadn't already left. I wonder what he thought when he read Beilein left for the NBA? Coached at a big time Michigan HS for many years and, really, is probably best served up north. We'll see...guy can really coach but fit matters.

Yeah they play pretty sloppy I'd say.

Definitely athletic and have size.

I'm sure we will get their best game to date.

If we come out against them like we did against Maryland though... I think we will probably hold them off fairly easily.

Hope a good crowd is there!

We got BAMA in the house.

Get excited! Come rock the Ryan!

How quickly things change- when this game was scheduled, both teams had different head coaches. Taking over for a fired coach, Oats is still getting the program back and learning about his guys. Their front court is diminished- both Juwan Gary (a 4 star, top 100 recruit) and James Rojas (5th ranked ‘19 JUCO) are out for the season with injuries. It’s easy to focus on your own team’s tough luck and roster implications, but most teams are dealing with them. Friday home crowd, some quality practice time since Maryland- I think they get off to a quick start and end up winning by at least 8.

As of now It looks like plenty of tickets remain for this game and the likelihood of a sellout is remote. It'll be a good crowd, maybe 6800-6900.

Ticket prices went up for this one. 300 sections going for 20-35$, 200s/100s going for 35-60$. I would agree, 6000-6500 fans. Maybe more.

URI may have its shooting woes, but Alabama isn't much better. One consistent strength of URI over the last few years has been the ability to turn teams over and so far Alabama has had issues holding onto the ball. Both teams are a wash when it comes to rebounding with no clear advantage to either side.

It's a shame if we fans cannot pack in there on a Friday evening to give the Rams some energy because this is a very winnable game for them and if they get a high energy crowd and feed off of it, URI could really make a statement against a good (not great) team.

The 100 and 200 sections have about 325 seats left. The 300s have at least a couple of thousand left. And those numbers don't include the 1500 student allotment. Besides the 2 for 1, Groupon has 36 dollar seats for 17 dollars. Not selling well. Hopefully the 2 promotions get a lot of people into seats.

I counted the dots = 750. I know that isn’t always accurate but what info would you have differently that there are a ton of tickets left?
The dots assume all the students seats are taken.
If the 750 seats left is correct and they get a full student crowd, that would put the crowd at 7100+.

I’m guessing around 6000- initially pricing this as a premium game tuned away a lot of the early ticket sales. Now the ticket office is scrambling to get people in the building.

Agree agree agree on run run run. We got the lead in Maryland because we forced turnovers and pushed the balk. Then we went to our non moving offense and started bashing our heads against the wall.

If you see a lot of green dots in the front of the 300 sections and not in the back of the 300 sections, the back ones aren't sold either. If the ones in the front of the section start selling, the ones in the back will become green. So, looking at this game, there aren't a lot of seats in the 300s that are actually sold.

I see that in about 5 of the 300 sections. That should still put the crowd around 6500 if there is 1500 students. The key is do 1500 students show up on a Friday night or does they all leave for the weekend.

The key is always the students. Give them the best seats in the house (instead of the worst) would be my first move.
