Even if Harris has turned into what we hoped he could be one day when we signed him I think 17-20 Points a game is pretty steep with Langevine, Dowtin, Fatts, Martin, Tate and all the new faces that are on this team. I do hope that he is healthy and has worked on his game. I think 10ppg and 6.5 rebounds would be a great start

If he averages 17 points a game that would be a ridiculous improvement and could mean he needs to the NBA.

If we get 10 points a game then that would be huge.

First and foremost though, he needs to figure out how not to foul.

His struggles last year I think made us kinda forget about him in a way.

Need him to be healthy and he really needed to put on some muscle.

If during the season, we all find ourselves saying that he is a good player, then I think we will have ourselves a good basketball team.

We know Cyril is going to be a double double machine and first team all A-10. He was pretty much our entire post game last year so, if Jermaine comes in and poses a threat man it is gravy on the mashed potatoes.

Not to mention we got Walker and Devale Johnson down low too.

Even 15 ppl is a tall order given his teammates. Harris is likely the fourth option most nights.

I love the optimism and confidence ECR!

I think if he has a 9-11ppg / 6-7 rpg this year I would see that as a solid improvement. I think with this team and the (hopefully) improved depth, that the scoring is spread out. Cyril will be Cyril, but maybe Jeff can be less relied on for scoring and be more a facilitator like in Fresh and Soph season (not saying his scoring dips a ton, but maybe 13-14ppg. Then you have Fatts, Rese, Dana, Walker, Sheppard, etc.

......dramatic improvement? I would settle for steady growth in his year two, measured by playing time increases by staying out of foul trouble, some boards, and maybe showing some game inside 15 ft......continued solid free throw stroke getting him to the line......fitting into Coach Cox’s offensive sets.......

My guess is closer to 12 ppg this year. If he averages more than 15 ppg with our schedule we are a sweet 16 caliber team.

17-20 points?!?

Ridiculous expectations / thought there.

Gimme 8-10 points with 6-7 rebounds while staying out of foul trouble and I’ll be thrilled.

11 pts and 7rb per is what I would love to see from Harris, that would be a great sophomore campaign for Jermaine.

Would love to see him be the primary post option. Nothing against CL, but I think Harris is a bit more polished in the post. If Cyril and Harris learn how to play off one another and our shooting improves from distance, this could be a really fun team to watch.

I told Harris they had his height wrong on gorhody.com and he said they have his weight wrong too :D
He doesn’t care. I believe he is 6’9” 230.
He is a shy person. Very quiet. Probably the least comfortable in last night’s environment.
Once you engage with him he comes out of his shell a little. Very nice person. He said he is totally focused on school and basketball and nothing else. He realizes he needs to take a big step this year and deliver on his potential. He is excited that he is 100% healthy and mentioned the work with Chase paying dividends.

I spoke to Jermaine for a bit the other night. He’s healthy- sore from the conditioning work they’ve been doing but he’s over last years ailment. In a different mindset from last year in which he was obviously discouraged. In all the times I’ve talked to him he’s never made excuses. Very quiet/polite and seems to keep to himself.

Good to hear: in many ways, the conditioning is the tough part. Once you are actually playing competitive basketball every 3rd day, there is less thought into soreness. Just run, use your skills, and take some banging every now and then. Things only become a problem if you are coming off an extremely serious injury such as EC and you may have to change mechanics just to avoid stressing your injured area.

Harris didn’t play in the Tip-Off intrasquad scrimmage on Tuesday. He did most of the drills including 5 on 5 but seemed to pull himself out near the end of the drills and sat next to Cyril.

Last year prior to every game Chase or the trainer would apply a heat gel to Jermaine’s quads & hamstrings.

Looks like the guy isn't destined to play 25-30 minutes a game.

Whether it's fouls or health.

Makes it imperative that Walker is able to play the next few weeks.

I still say his play is the key to Rhody’s season. I think we have a general idea of what to expect from the other starters, but Jermaine remains a wild card. You can tell he has a nice touch from the mid range (junk the three point attempts, though). He has a nice touch from the free through line. The recruiting experts thought there was talent there when he was in high school. I’m starting to wonder if he will be one of those players that will never be 100% healthy, which would be too bad.

Harris is a major concern for this team. We need him to step up this year and he couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start. We need him because of his size and physicality. When we play god teams with size we are extremely limited in our front court. Why is Harris not performing at all? I know it was only the first game but 0 points and 4 fouls against low level competition. That’s inexcusable. Topin played great off the bench but the fact that we might have to heavily lean on a freshman tells me we could be in for a disappointing year. I really hope Harris can get his game going.

This is an absolutely ridiculous thread and opening statement! First off i have been critical of harris but expecting 20 pts a game from anyone in college ball is boderline ludacris. Are you even a CBB fan? That is absurd.

LIU just doesn't move the needle.

Still, figured at least 5000 for opening night.

Cox needs to make the dance this year. If he does, the 4 stars will follow.

Still, the staff's evals and development skills, to me at least, are more important than splitting hairs over whether someone's a 3 or 4 star.

The only slam dunks, or mostly slam dunks, are the 5 stars. And we aren't getting those, no matter what.
