Rhody Softball 2020

Unread post by CaliURIfan »

Rhody Softball released it’s fall schedule today. Exciting to see what this team will accomplish this year. They return six starters from last year, plus have experience in the circle with senior Sarah Gunderson and Rutger’s transfer Taryn Collins. Add a really solid freshman class and an appearance in the A-10 tournament could be in the cards.

September 28th - Away Round Robin (@ Sacred Heart)
V. Sacred Heart and Yale
Times TBD

October 5-6 - Ocean State Classic (@ Bryant)
V. Bryant, Providence and Brown
Times TBD

October 11th
@ Boston College
7:30pm

Every year, but it's a limited slate that is not considered as part of the overall record.

Rhody softball went 3-0 this weekend to win the Ocean State Classic. The beat Brown 7-0, Providence 6-3 and Bryant 7-1. Sarah Gunderson, Tayrn Collins and Cece Sidley did a great job in the circle, and the team pounded out 29 hits over the three games to help bring home the title. Rhody finishes up their fall slate with a Friday night game at BC.

Great job ladies!!

Great news CaliURIfan!

Are there any box scores available?
Did any of our incoming Freshmen play? How did they do?
We’re all of our previously injured players ok to play?
Thank you

There are no box scores for these fall ball games.

Sami Villarreal did not play. With regards to new players:

Freshman
Jessica Hennelly, OF, went 4-8 on the weekend
Cece Sidley threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings against Providence to earn the win
Rachel Zingerman had five or six hits and did a nice job at 2nd base.

Also, sophomore transfer from Rutgers, Taryn Collins threw a complete game against Bryant.

For returners, Ari Castillo, Erika Yeager and Faith Musselwhite all hit bombs and Sarah Gunderson threw great all weekend.

CaliURIfan,
Interesting how freshmen Jessica Hennelly and Cece Sidley played together in HS for Christian Brothers in Sacramento.

Nice article on their recruiting:

Yes, they played rec ball together, six years of travel ball, and high school together. It is pretty fun that they are now playing College ball together.

Softball Schedule Released includes 56 games:
Highlights include:
  • 6 games in Elon NC Tournament
  • 2 games in UNC Charlotte Tournament
  • 4 games in Marietta Georgia, Bailey Memorial Tournament
  • 5 games in Stanford University, California Tournament
  • 5 games in Liberty University Challenge, Lynchburg Virginia Tournament
Great to see a Tournament in California where we have 6 players from including 3 incoming Freshmen, plus a Tournament in Atlanta where 1 player is from. URI has been recruiting heavily in California so this Tournament can help future recruiting as well.

Current Players From California:
Cassie Swenson - Freshman, Panorama City
Cece Sidley - Freshman, Sacramento
Jessica Hennelly - Freshman, Sacramento
Susan Harrison - Sophomore, Arcadia
Erika Yeager - Senior, San Jose
Ari Castillo - Sophomore, Fresno

Current Player from Atlanta:

Definitely a nice schedule. The Stanford tournament saves me a trip across the Country to watch Rhody softball :).

In the non-conference, they play nine games against teams who played in the post season last year, including:

NCAA Tournament
Longwood (three games)
St. Francis
Stanford (two games)
Boston University

National Invitational Softball Championship (Softball's NIT)
Marshall
Longwood

After a solid fall season, it will be fun to see how this team tackles the Spring.

Go Rhody!!
