Not too many recruits have already gone coast to coast at the RC.

I wonder if UMass will offer Preston a coaching job to get Jr like they did with Tre Mitchell’s mother’s boyfriend

Preston Sr. has plenty of time to work with his son now.

This would be awesome! I would love this! It would be great to have a guy who is passionate about Rhody basketball on a very deep level, whom plays on the court as well. He would instantly feel comfortable here and I bet he would give it 100% every game. I imagine he could post some good numbers early on during his time at URI, given the setting familiarity.

Preston Sr. coached at Woonsocket for a while, but I'm not sure he ever lived there. I'm pretty sure Preston Jr played at the Ryan Center in a Cranston league

Re: ‘22 NE PG - Preston Murphy Jr (Offer)
He was playing pee wee football for the North Smithfield Express, about 8-10 years ago. Given the proximity to Woonsocket, Sr could have either been living in N.S. and working in Woonsocket, or perhaps they lived in Woonsocket and the Express team just covers a general area for kids.

I feel like his father was so underrated i loved him, be great if it worked out that he could follow in his footsteps. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on this one

If he is anywhere near his dad, sign me up. I remember him during that halftime scrimmage at the Ryan Center. He's the son of a URI legend. Tough to fill those shoes, but if he thinks he can do it then I'm on board. I would also root for him to break every record his dad has at URI ( no offense PMurph)

Looks like the kind of passer that gives the ball to guys in rhythm, right when they want it. Good outside shooter as well. It's tough to hit 3's while still moving forward when shooting and he looked like he hit one or two of those with minimal difficulty.

Correct he played for CFCL (Cranston) in the RIYBA which is a 4th grade - 8th grade travel basketball league that each RI town has a team in. He was fun to watch back then as well.RhowdyRam02 wrote: ↑4 years agoPreston Sr. coached at Woonsocket for a while, but I'm not sure he ever lived there. Re: ‘22 NE PG - Preston Murphy Jr (Offer)
Not sure what this conversation is about. Preston did live in Smithfield, and or North Smithfield before he went to Creighton.
CLCF was at one time a very good athletic organization, but you can come from New London or Boston if you are willing to travel, you do not have to be from Cranston
His wife Liz and family are from Pawtucket and the most quality people you will ever meet as is Preston.
Mark me down as a very happy guy if Preston, Preston Jr ever become part of Rhody....again in Seniors case

Re: ‘22 NE PG - Preston Murphy Jr (Offer)
The underclassmen are led by junior Preston Murphy, the son of the former Rhody Ram guard who is now living in Barrington. Murphy is a 6-footer with a quick handle, shooting range and savvy. He reportedly has offers from the likes of URI, Clemson and DePaul but after missing most of the summer due to the limited, virus-shortened AAU season, Murphy may just be a hidden gem.

Re: ‘22 NE PG - Preston Murphy Jr (Offer)
His father, was the ultimate "glue guy" (pardon the phrase) that I have personally witnesses as a URI fan. When Harrick came here, he saw it. Said Preston Sr. was the most talented player on the team (that included Cat and Tyson) yet was willing to accept the role of 6th man.
Jr looks like a carbon copy of the old man, except he doesn't have his head shaved. It would be brilliant for him to come here. I'm not sure how realistic it is that he would accept the role that his father was willing to, however.

We are in good shape with our backcourt. Certainly do not see any immediate playing time for 2022.

Re: ‘22 NE PG - Preston Murphy Jr (Offer)
Preston Murphy Jr., the No. 196 overall prospect in the 2022 247Sports Composite Rankings, has committed to DePaul, he tells 247Sports.
"I am going to DePaul University," said Murphy.
The 6-foot-1 and 175-pound point guard out of Omaha (Neb.) St. Andrews School chose the Blue Demons over offers from Clemson, Siena, Bryant, Rhode Island, UMass and Buffalo.
"They just prioritized me throughout the whole recruiting process and they talked to me a lot," Murphy said of why he committed to DePaul. "I really trust them, coach [Dave] Leitao has a great plan for mean and it's a great school, a great city and a great conference. I just really trust the plan and vision that coach Leitao has for my future."
The plan and vision that coach Leitao has for Murphy is similar to what DePaul fans have seen with Charlie Moore.
"Just the same type of way he has the team oriented around Charlie Moore," Murphy said of that vision. "The style of play, needing someone in my position in my class, a lot of the stuff that you see with Charlie Moore, just the same type of style as that."
In his own eyes, Murphy says he will bring playmaking ability and great point guard skills.
"Just a winning mentality, playmaking ability offensively and defensively, a smart mind with great point guard skills," he said of what he will bring to the program.
Murphy is Dave Leitao's first commitment in the 2022 class and building early off the momentum he has gained with his current No. 7 overall 2021 class.

When was the last time a son of a former Rhody player actually committed to URI? I don't think it has been any time in the last few decades. In fact, several high level recruits in the last decade have not even given their father's alma mater much consideration - be it Murphy, Colson, Sina, etc...

I wonder about that as well. It bums me out, do fathers have sway with their kids anymore? At least the Brothers' Martin connection is happening though, that's a good thing for sure.RF1 wrote: ↑3 years ago When was the last time a son of a former Rhody player actually committed to URI? While I would have loved to see him come here, I can certainly understand someone wanting to forge their own path and not follow their parent's or sibling's footsteps and be in their shadow.Running Ram wrote: ↑3 years agoI wonder about that as well. Another RI kid who initially committed out of state.
Let’s see if we can get him on the rebound.
