I forgot to include:

The point I was making about AAU ball and Pro ball and defense is that in Pro basketball, zone defense is illegal and in AAU basketball zone defense is basically non existent.

A-10 will always be John Chaney suffocating interior zone defense, daring you to shoot from a great distance to beat them, and panic setting in if you can't from the very beginning of the game.

I went back and read my first comment and it didn't explain the point I was trying to make.

Zone defense isn’t illegal in the NBA anymore. That concept has been replaced by defensive 3 seconds.

I’d agree with Ramster that in EYBL and with many top tier AAU teams defense isn’t an afterthought. Mokan one of the top AAU programs prides itself on defense. Rivals touts that they only teach Man2Man and stress kids playing both sides of the ball. Now when you get to the next tier down of AAU and all the secondary tournaments that is moreso where you see track meets and street ball. Also there is a a lot of zone played at AAU level not sure who said it’s only Man, there is actually a lot of debate and grief given to AAU coaches (rightfully so) who play junk zone defenses just to win tournaments and don’t teach kids how to play man. But to say there is no defense played in AAU is wrong.

Agree to disagree overall on defense in AAU games. I have seen enough of them as well. The top D1 coaches are looking at individual play and more specifically individual skills. They don’t care about AAU team defense or AAU team results. The number one comment from D1 coaches on Fr players when they start their first year is they need to improve on defense in order to get playing time.

How is any of this bickering related to Josh? Start a new thread about AAU and defense intensity perhaps?

The NLOI Early signing period is Nov 13-20. They can sign any time during that period. After that they can’t sign until April 15th.

A fellow poster just reminded me that Cox is a closer. It reminded me of the line from the movie Glengarry Glen Ross - “coffee is for closers”.

Maybe he knew the offer was coming. I could see more offers coming in last minute as more P5 teams lose out on priorities at PF/C. Wouldn't be surprised to see his decision pushed back later this year or even into the new year.

Why? Rutgers should want anyone. Forget about pairings with other players like Foster. They are viewed as one of the lowest P5 schools for football and basketball

Hello,

A newbie here and URI hoops fan by way of my son who is a URI grad. Ironically, I'm an Iowa native and major Hawkeye fan who grew up 20 minutes from Iowa City. I've been on both campuses many times.

As others have said, URI has a very legitimate shot at landing Ogundele. I can tell you Josh was very complimentary of URI in the Iowa based articles I've read. I suspect it's down to URI and Iowa. Both have varying selling points; which have been mentioned already in this post.

As it pertains to Foster, by all indications it's anybody's guess on if he selects IA or IA State. He's a life long Hawk fan but his GF attends IA State. I don't know to the degree Foster's decision will impact Ogundele's but they reportedly got along very well in their OV in Iowa City and they are being recruited to play different positions (as do the Murray twins).

Foster intends on announcing his decision on Nov 11th. I suspect Ogundele will announce around that same time.

Rutgers is picked #104 by Madness 144 and 12th of 14 teams in the Big 10
Steve Pikiel is making progress and has many starters returning this year. He has solid guard players but needs front court help
To be in the Final 5 it’s clear conversations were taking place, especially now since formal Rutgers Offer is publicized

Some have said he's going to wait to announce and sign during the NLOI period coming up.

If he's going to verbal early, you would think it will be this week.

I was hoping he would have committed to us during his unofficial.

Things are quiet on the recruiting front for Ogundele which is good for URI. No planned visits to PC or Rutgers at this point in time.

Not specifically the Big East, but a higher level than the A-10. He has made comments on twitter and instagram when one of his buddies commits to higher level leagues like "Big Time" and comments like that. I just think he's shooting higher than us. Just my opinion.

If he's announcing next week...PC not likely.

Unless he gets blown away by them, that is. They could be getting desperate.

My guess he's made his decision, just wants to check it out.

Uh, PC is NOT big time.

He is going to the PC game tomorrow night. Eating at Capital Grille per his IG. Staying at hotel in downtown Providence so that’s a plus for Rhody.

Right, where's an 18 year old kid even going to buy his Black Dog hat or driftwood home decor in Providence?

I am not sure that a recruit cares much about Newport vs Providence as far as beauty. This isn't a choice of where we want to bring our family for a day trip. How much time would he spend in Newport even if he did choose URI ? And would he care? He will be spending the majority of his time in the Ruane Center, which is a beautiful facility, if he were to choose PC. I got a feeling that Billyboy is correct that he has his vision on the "big time" school regardless if it were to be the best landing spot for him. For me personally, I would hate the fact that I was a fall back option and now being chased by a school who is now in a back pedaling mode trying to find someone. I would use that as motivation, but not at the school that has jumped in all of sudden, but a school like URI that genuinely has chased me for a long time and clearly wants me.

As far as Newport vs. Providence, or Kingston vs. Providence, one of the things he liked about Cincinnati is that the campus is in the middle of the city.
