Indiana losing at half by 6 to the #8 seed.

They will probably win, but do they care?

Davidson up 5 at half.....they must like playing someone who doesn't play A10 in your face defense.

Davidson gets bounced out of the NIT...….

Lipscomb is pretty good. Pretty much scored at will.

It’s that time of year when I have to find what channel truTV is (and if I still have it). I can say with 100% certainty that I have not watched truTV since last March.

Belmont and Lipscomb are proving themselves, albeit in different tourneys.

PC taking a nap against Arkansas, down 11 at half. And the Razorbacks' best player not playing due to declaring for the NBA draft.

Loses by 12 to Arkansas at the Dunk while favored by 7.
Frank Carpano, Bill Reynolds and Kevin Mac sitting side by side courtside but Ed Cooley and Team with not much to entertain them
People from the Providence Public Library have moved over to the Dunk because they heard how much quieter it was there to read
Cooley needs to return that Jacket tomorrow - bad luck
Box Score says Arkansas blocked 10 shots (7 by a guy off the bench) but it seemed like 25 blocked shots
AJ Reeves looked bad defensively, Announcers said a big objective this summer for the Coaching Staff is to work on Reeves' defense
Very low energy crowd

I was thinking that although I hate the NIT it would have been good for us as a young team

Then I saw what providence did last night and thought that it hurt them and their brand....poor crowd....poor effort on national tv....poor attitude by the players who didn't want to be there.....all losses in my opinion.....and they are a young team also...I don't think they took anything positive away from the game...

I vote we never go the NIT if we are invited.....

The true message is “don’t be like Providence.”

Like the name of this section of Keaney Blue says “NCAA or Bust”. In my opinion that means unless there is a significant financial benefit or a true young up in comingURI team filled with freshmen and sophomores and future promises than the NIT is not necessarily a key to the success of the our program.

No excuses for the poor attitudes....they accepted a bid....and they knew they weren't close to an NCAA bid for a while.

For a young team you would think they would want to get some good postseason experience.

NIT is still a valuable tournament. Sure you have teams who under achieved and are on their way out, but many teams are young teams on the cusp of making the NCAAT. Hungry. Those are the teams you want to play.

URI will always accept an NIT bid.

I might get crapped on for having the opinion that URI should strive to make the NCAA tourney 2 out of every 4 years, with 1 NIT also.

I think this is a realistic goal for the program going forward.

The only times URI had NIT runs that didn’t precede an NCAA was in the Baron error.

1987 NIT - 1988 Sweet 16
1993 NIT quarterfinal- 1993 NCAA
1996 NIT quarterfinal- 1997-99 NCAA including elite 8 in ‘98
2015 NIT - 2017-18 NCAA

you always except NIT especially with a young team to gain valuable experience.

This is not quite accurate. We went to the NIT in 41,42,45,46,79 and 81 without a followup NCAAT bid.

The NIT is actually now much harder to get into for an at large than it was for the four decades before the NCAA took it over. Not only was the field larger for some time (40 teams vs today's32), it did not give automatic bids (which now can account for nearly 1/3 of teams) and was entirely at large invites. It is now much better run, more selective, and much more merit based. In the old days, it was run by a NYC based old boys club that favored local teams and made many selections based on name value and who had big venues that could sell tickets. There was no initial set bracket. Matchups were decided after each round. Often easy paths (all home games) to NYC were created to help get the desired teams in the final four.

The closest we've come to a national title since the 40's was the year we lost to NC in the NIT semis.

We should have won that game but went 2-6 from the FT line in the last 2 minutes. And Ulmer should have gotten a foul call in the last few seconds.

Then we likely would have beaten Dayton in the finals, since we owned them at the time.

They should get rid of the NIT and expand the Dance to 96 teams.

Seed the top 32 and the other 64 play the 1st round. They could figure it out.

Wacky? Maybe, but it's a thought.

Absolutely. I heard the announcers talking about PC's lack of effort last night.
Here is the situation with PC:
  • 7 point favorites
  • Arkansas just two days ago heard they would need to play without their Best Player who is estimated to be the 20th Pick in the 2019 NBA Draft
  • PC was never going to the NCAA so it's not like they were UNC Greensboro and the last team out
  • They have several promising Freshmen developing
  • They are playing at home
  • Arkansas had to fly up with a minimum of 2 segments each way
So next time turn it down - don't go. Do players, your coaches, your fans, your ticket sellers, your cheerleaders, your band, Frank Carpano, Bill Reynolds and Kevin Macnamara all a favor and don't waste everyone's time.
In fact, build this type of attitude into the NET for next year - call it team spirit or lack thereof

Based on their horrible shooting, horrible defense - especially from AJ Reeves, sleepy fans, turnovers and a Head Coach who looked much of the night like he didn't care then they look more like a CBA or CIT Team. An embarrassment for the school and their conference. Just say no next time.

Plenty of teams would have loved to have had the NIT Opportunity

Don't get me wrong, I watched the game from beginning to end and or course rooted for Arkansas, but in al honesty, I don't think it was that they thought they were above the NIT or that they did not really come to play, I thought Arkansas simply shot better, jumped higher, ran faster and played harder than PC - they just simply got outscored badly on their home court.

The winner of the NCAA tournament has always been considered the national champion but in the 40s teams turned down the NCAA for the NIT as the NIT was more prestigious.
