I am sure the Nevada administration and the school's fans will have no issue with Musselman pursuing another job. His contract allows him to leave provided he pays the buyout. If he chooses to leave and take several staff members, it will be because it is a good business decision. How can someone begrudge that? ;)

Former UMASS player Tony Barbee name floating around to replace Ron Hunter at Georgia State. Barbee was HC at UTEP and really struggled at Auburn as HC. Currently assistant with UMASS buddy Calipari at Kentucky.

Didn't take long after TCU's loss to Texas last night
TCU was lethargic all night but especially in the 1st half when they only scored 17 points.

It may be a good hire but they ran Ben Howland out of LA bc they didn't like his defensive, plodding style even though he brought them to 3 Final Fours. Dixon is of that same ilk in terms of how he likes to play. Will be interesting. It's funny how much info has come out about the UCLA job, including their lack of charters and resistance to breaking the bank on coach salary...with the amount of money in and around that campus, and the alums and history they have, that is crazy to hear.

I'm pretty sure DH isn't leaving UConn for Seton Hall at this point. What would be interesting is if DH was still here, how worried would we be? Ace?

Yeah, and TCU played like they knew their coach was likely gone.

Reminds me of us against Duke in the tourney. Yes we had no chance no matter what, but they played like they knew Dan was gone.

All 4 teams really wanted to get to NYC, all the teams in the NIT want that trip to NYC and to play in Madison Square Garden. Once they got there maybe they let up. It did seem that they were not the same team that I watched in the earlier NIT games. Maybe word leaked out about UCLA.

John Calipari's base salary at Kentucky -- prior to this new lifetime deal -- was $7.95 million. He earned $9.25 million in 2018-19. UCLA essentially offered him a pay cut, and Calipari leveraged them anyway into a better deal to stay in Lexington. It was a failure on every level.

Yes, coaching searches are driven by contract value. But they're also driven by opportunity. You evaluate a job based on how that program should perform at its maximum and how much more room it has to grow from a facilities/financial/fan base perspective.

So in that context, Buzz Williams leaving Virginia Tech makes perfect sense. In a given year, how many ACC schools are they behind? Duke, North Carolina, Virginia, Louisville, Syracuse, Florida State at minimum -- maybe Notre Dame, North Carolina State and Miami when those jobs are being done correctly.

In the SEC, aside from Kentucky and maybe Florida, every program has had recent ups and downs and can't really be considered a true national contender. Given what they spend -- $485 million on their football stadium renovations and $75 million on Jimbo Fisher, for example -- the Aggies have proven they will back a winner. Their last few hires include Billiy Gillispie, Mark Turgeon, Billy Kennedy -- they came from UTEP, Wichita State and Murray State, respectively. Williams has the far better pedigree and potential to win bigger.

Buzz is also from Texas and had previously worked at A&M so it can be easily explained just on that basis alone.

In addition to all of this, Gary Parrish told a story on one of his podcast episodes about a month ago when the rumors of Buzz to A&M began to surface. He said he interviewed Buzz when he first got to VT after leaving Marquette and Buzz told him he doesn't like to set up roots any one place because then he sets himself up for eventually hitting a dry spell in terms of success and meeting fan expectations. Buzz said he usually leaves after about 4-6 years so that he always has that "new coach" period of time to adjust and settle before expectations mount.

Plus he is a Texas native (and an A&M alum, I believe).

The less kind interpretation of Buzz William’s career is that he can be a difficult person to get along with, and he wears out his welcome. I imagine it’s a little of each.

Why would UCLA go public that they are going after Dixon if they couldn’t afford his buyout?
It seems like they are trying to screw TCU. Using the approach “hey TCU do you really want to force a coach to stay who doesn’t want to be there?”

UCLA is saying to Dixon, we want you but not enough to pay your buyout.

Looks like it's true that UCLA isn't willing to spend top dollar on basketball.

Good for them, I guess?

URI is still behind too many A10 teams with regards to facilities. Coaches want every competitive advantage they can get, even when that advantage is really just being equal to the competition. The Ryan Center is great. They need to finish the job. All money raised, finalized plans, a firm start date on construction.

URI treats facility improvements like they're a national secret.

Very little gets out until you actually see construction begin.

They keep saying the practice facility will be built. When?

Of course this brings me back to when Dooley told me 3 years ago that we were getting turf and lights soon.

Soon I guess in their parlance means 3 years or so.

I just looked at the VCU video of their practice facility. I'm not sure a redo of Tootell will inspire much like that facility. Hope I'm wrong.

What did their PF cost? We're getting the Dollar Store version.

That is a statement win for the AAC.

That conference has generally been perceived as a steppingstone for coaches just like the A10.

That could now be changing, at least at the top end of the league.

URI is going to spend $5 million on the practice area. That will create a nice space with the important features.
Renovation of an existing space saves significant $.
