Seems like a lot of teams with .500 or less overall records

Just saw RF1 posted something similar in a different thread.

Looking back- 9 teams were .500 or worse last season.
6 teams in 2016-2017

3 of the next 4 games are against the Top Teams in the League @ VCU (19-6), Davidson (19-6) and @ Dayton (16-9)

These 3 teams are hungry for post season invitations and positioning for the A10 Tournament Seeding. Looks like the best possible outcome would be 3-3 in our remaining 6 games.

Another tv game to showcase the ineptitiude of this staff and players. This is one area you can absolutely expect to change next year. Rest assured that the number of Rhody games that will be selected by the A-10 tv network partners for next season will plummet. ESPN+, available only via the internet by subscription, will be the de facto URI basketball viewing network.

It will be interesting to see who the A-10 pairs URI with for home and homes next year. The league tries to arranges schedules that will bolster the NCAA chances of the expected top tier teams. URI, with a likely bottom third league finish this year, will not be one of these teams. Do not expect to see two games next year versus the likes of Davidson, VCU, Dayton, and St Louis. The A-10 will not want to have these teams hurt by playing URI more than once. Look to see probable series (5 H&H partners) set up with teams from a group that includes UMass, Fordham, LaSalle, SBU, GW, St Joe's, and Richmond.

They should still open the pub at 6, or have a special tailgating night time pre-game...make it interesting at least.

ETA: OR....make it the debut of the 'brewhoffers at the concession stands' era. (And still open the doors at 6)

That would be shitty for people like me who plan to make the trip solely because it’s a 9pm game and I can meet my people for dinner. If the tip is at 7pm no way I can make the trip.

My guess is that the odds makers will agree with you. URI will likely be the underdog for all its remaining away games (even St Joe's) as well as the Davidson home game.

Let’s guess how the game goes. We put up around 53 points, lose by around 18(only because VCU doesn’t usually score a lot), Harris gets a couple quick fouls and is relegated to the bench, we throw up awful three point shots while shooting around 15-20 percent, there is bad coaching decisions and we stand around on offense with no set plays.

FWIW, KenPom has them winning against GW and UMass, plus having a chance against Davidson and St. Joe’s. I could see 3-3.

FYI one of the pubs is going to be closed to the public on Friday night since it’s Big Chill weekend. $20 a head to get in and I think you pre register.

Also I have an early day on Saturday so a 7pm start for this game would be great, but oh well.

OK..this is strictly a rumor that hasn't started yet. For the Friday nite late game, $1 beers from 7-9. Just remember, the North end pub will be closed for a booked event. This means that the south end pub will sell all 12 beers that they manage to pump out in that 2 hour window.

I didn’t see the kenpom numbers for the last two games, but usually the betting odds are a pretty good stand-in. URI was favored against both Dayton and Fordham - by double digits against Fordham. So might not be worth a lot. I hope we win every game, but not very optimistic at this point.

Never thought I would say this, but, in some ways I am rooting for them to lose all the games; just maybe that makes it so there is ONLY one decision for Thorr. Short term sacrifice for long term gain...................

I can't believe we beat VCU less than a month ago and had 4 starters in double figures (Fatts leading the way with 19). Jermaine scored 8 points, including a key turnaround jumper from the free-throw line with 33 seconds left in the game. Whatever happened to that team?

1. All the pressure is on VCU. They're at home and they're trying to keep their at-large chances alive. Rhody is expected to lose this game.

2. For whatever reason, URI has had VCU's number lately. Five wins in a row.

One of the VCU fans/part time writers I follow on Twitter said URI is the only team VCU has a losing record against since joining the A10 in 2012-13. Is that true? I know we have 5 straight but I don’t remember beating them before so perhaps we only played them once a season before the streak started.

Edit: Just checked and we played VCU once each season their first four years in the A10 with VCU winning each game. Since then we won 5 straight. This is the first season URI and VCU will have faced each other twice in the regular season. The last 2 seasons had them face each other twice but one of the meetings each year was in the A10 tournament.

A big game tomorrow night is Dayton @ Davidson
One has Davidson -2.5 and another has Davidson -3.5. Should be a great game and a huge opportunity for Dayton

For URI to have any hope in this game, Jermaine Harris has to have his best game of season and Tyrese Martin has to score well into double digits. I don't see either thing happening.

i just want a solid effort tonight with a lot of emotion and heart and let the best team win

hate to go to the "moral victories" route.. but if the team plays hard, smart, with emotion and heart.. then i will accept this as a positive step in moving forward.

There will be no doubt after tonight whether or not this team has quit on the coach. I'll be glued to my tv come 8:00, its going to be very interesting to see how they respond out of the gate. You know VCU is going to put immense pressure on the ball the full 94 ft, will URI wilt under pressure and get down big early? I'm not expecting to win this game (cant believe I just said that), but I'm expecting the team to play HARD and with attitude regardless of score and not sulk or go through the motions. To me this game is more of a test for Cox and staff and not necessarily the players.
