I had posted this in another thread but also am adding it here for those that might miss it there.

I have been to some of the local eating/drinking options near there. The Hangar with the Amherst Brewing Company on site is very close by to the Mullins Center and offers food and drink. I myself like the Northampton Brewery brewpub restaurant in nearby downtown Northampton much better. If you go to the Mullins via Route 91 (typically a near all highway better option for winter weather), it is not that much out of the way as it is found off the same Route 9 exit you would use to get to UMass.

Travel Tips to UMass
Many URI fans will likely travel west out via the Mass Pike Route 90. Most GPS systems will suggest getting off in Palmer at Exit 8 and driving there along Routes 32/181/202/9. Be advised that this route involves some 20+ miles of non highway roads that wind their way to Amherst. Nearly all of it is two lane. A slightly longer distance ride but easier to follow for those unfamiliar with the area and better if there are weather conditions is to go all the way out the pike to Route 91 North and get off at Route East 9 in Northampton. This route has just 7 miles of non highway surface roads with much of it four lanes wide and well traveled.

How many percentage points do we think they get for being at home? 5%? So if it was on a neutral court we would go up to 62% and if at home all the way to 67%?

Not saying that is what the break out would be, just a thought. I don't know their algorithms.

He hasn't played in the last couple of games, but I can't figure out why. He has had academic, weight and health issues throughout his career so i assume its 1 of those. Only thing I dont like about this game is that UMass isn't the worst team in the league. They are due to have a breakout game. Really wish it came against Bonnies but instead they really shit the bed and likely have been grinded by the coach in the days leading to our game. I would expect them to come out with intensity and we will have to match that, we are the more talented team, but playing on the road even in an empty morgue of a gym is never easy for a young team.

They beat PC when they were down 20 on the road, can’t take em lightly.

Pipkins has the ability to carry them to a W by himself.

For us, playing with purposeful intensity is the key.

If we do, we'll win. Pipkins can light it up, but I would think our defense can contain him at least somewhat.

What we don't need is one of their no names to have a career game. That has happened against us before, more than once.

Like Pipkins did last year when we played there.

We came out sluggish in that game and were down big early.

We have to keep bringing that defensive intensity and continue to play to our strengths, not weaknesses *shooting threes*

Remember, according to DC, after every game we are 1-7...…..

Worked so far.....but have to keep on them constantly....or we could revert back to the group that stunk out the joint against GM.

I have not been to any but I would think you would likely have several options in Northampton. It has a very eclectic restaurant scene for such a small city.

I asked my son who went to UMass. There are two vegan only restaurants in Northampton.
He said about half the restaurants around UMass will have 1-2 vegan options. Suggestion was to look at their menu online.

Update: Judie’s (my favorite restaurant near campus) has vegetarian dishes they will make vegan. The vegetarian crispy risotto primavera is very good and they make thst vegan.

Link to their menu. They don’t take reservations.

I think it is a must win for us fans. We want to continue to build on our excitement. For the team every game is equal. The goal for them is to finish in the top 4 regular season and try to win the championship in Brooklyn. In that case a loss vs a lower team counts the same as a loss to a top team. If they lose to a lower team, we the fans feel worse. If thst is offset by a win against a top team, we the fans feel better. I know the coach and players have a goal to win every game and win the A10 regular season. I would love to be at the SLzu game on Feb 2nd with Rhody riding a five game winning streak.

UMass is in the midst of a bad stretch, but this is a rivalry game and as we sadly learned in Jimmy Baron's senior night game against UMass that bad things can happen even when favored.

BTW, UMass after Brown is URI's most played opponent. We have had good success against UMass especially if you discount the Calipari era when we went years without a win. The series record now stands at 64-88. Here are the other overall records for our old Yankee conference rivals:

UConn 69-74
Vermont 41-7
Maine 86-14
New Hampshire 96-18

I would not call a 64-88 record against a UMass program that other than the Calpiari years has not been all that good. It is amazing to think URI actually has a far better record versus UConn than UMass. URI has not done well handling UMass teams when they should. How many times have we seen a Minutemen team going no where beat a much better Ram team and sometimes ruin a URI season? I get that UMass dominated during Calipari's run with Skinner having an absolutely horrible record versus his alma mater. URI however should have racked up far more wins in other years.

Yea, you are somewhat correct, but going 1-18 in those Calipari years was unusual. The other factor that influences your view is the recent stretch of games in the late Baron/early Hurley years, when we lost 10 out of eleven games to the Minuteman practically all of them by a few points, many were upsets when we had the better team. That bad taste is lingering with you.

But on a positive note, the Rams have won four straight and even if we lose on Sunday, we have the better program and a better fan base.

Ouch. Those two stretches total 2-28. Tough to have an overall winning record against a team when you can put together two stretches that combine for a total of thirty games and you only win two of them. That net -26 makes all the difference and then some in the all-time series.

Rather than thinking even if we lose tomorrow we are still looking down our nose at them, I’d rather think another win Sunday continues us on the path of putting together a run of our own to cancel out their dominant stretches which built their series lead.

My recollection of Irving when he was at UMass is that he would set up at the high post and take those turn around 15-16 foot jumpers all night long and not miss. His game certainly exploded from there.

He got some help from a guy named Al Skinner too. Skinner was All Yankee Conference too for a couple of years and went on to play professionally with a couple of those years playing with Erving in the ABA. ABA had the 3 point shot and the Red White and Blue Basketball. Look at how the 3 point shot has changed the NBA, College and HS games - all started in the ABA.
Erving and Skinner played in the old Curry Hicks Cage - an all wooden building.
