Not sure what to make of Bucknell. The four teams they beat have a combined W/L of 11-30. They beat 318 SBU on the road, 46 Vermont at home, 344 Monmouth at home and 319 LaSalle away. They did play Ohio State close, very close. Trap game perhaps? They lost to Fairfield, Northeastern and Canisius at home.

We lead the match up 5-3 and are 1-0 on neutral courts. The last game of the series was a 74-69 URI home win on 1/30/1965

Looks as if we will b about a 6 pt favorite

Assuming we win , the big one for us will b TCU. A top 25 type team , will be about a 6 point favorite over us.

I don't think Bucknell is a great team. I just think the overall top 25 is weak thus far this year. I feel like the separation isn't like it was last year between the elite teams and the "ok" teams. I don't trust the win percentages either. Rhody blew that out of the water when we beat WVU the other day. I think going into that game Rhody was given less than a 30% chance of winning if I recall correctly, but even if I'm not remembering correctly I know it was pretty low.
In my opinion, this time of year young teams with good talent, like Rhody, are just starting to figure things out and I imagine after the first couple games in conference play we'll have a really good idea of who the contenders and pretenders are. Rhody seems to be improving every week. I like the way this schedule is working out. It appears that the long stretches (week) between games is giving the team a significant amount of time to work out it's problems, prepare for an opponent, and gel more as a team. It seems to me to be an ideal scenario for a young team with a lot of talented freshman. If they continue to improve this week, Bucknell shouldn't be a problem.
I'm wondering how the flight will affect their legs. It might sound like an odd thing to think about, but tall guys like myself don't typically like long flights with cramped leg room and I'm only 6'1". It can affect a person for a couple days...but maybe that's just me feeling like I'm slowly becoming an old geezer with each passing year.

KenPom giving Rhody a 70% chance of winning and projecting a final score of 73-67.

And for what it's worth, he's giving TCU a 96% chance of knocking off Charlotte and is projecting them to win by 20.

That's odd, when you click on audio in the schedule it takes you right to B101 and radio was listed for these games on the schedule that came with season tickets. I know Stone Freeman is going, I wonder if B101 is simulcasting the RIU broadcast

No, Don is in his 70s now and at this point in his life he'd rather be with his kids and his grandkids at Christmas. He talked to Coach Cox about it and David gave him the thumbs up on it.

Gorhody.com has an audio link next to the game for 101. Not sure if it’s accurate or not.

FYI ESPN3 is free with a cable subscription, unlike ESPN+ which requires the additional subscription.

The other two Diamond Head games will air on either ESPNU or ESPN2.

For those fans with an Xbox or PS4 in their house - download the ESPN app, you'll be able to get the game through that without having to buy anything else or additional setup.

I downgraded most of my cable so I don’t even have ESPN anymore. I’m going to have to call Cox and upgrade so I can get ESPN3. I have a YouTube TV app on my TV and I haven’t started the free trial for that but was wondering if I could even get it there?

ESPN3 is easy to use with a SmartTV. Just hold the microphone button down on the remote and say Rhode Island vs Bucknell and you will be taken directly to the game without having to screw around through menus.

Jeff back on the point has definitely had an impact on the last two games. That's the formula that many had been saying including myself that we needed. I think we have the rotation almost set. Now it's game to game improvement from Harris and Martin, and strong performances from Cyril, Jeff, Fatts and CT that will define the rest of the season.

Mostly, if not all right, but maybe wrong? All times following are Eastern.

So we play Saturday at 10 pm
If we win Saturday we play Sunday at 10 pm on ESPN 2 against the winner of the TCU/Charlotte game
Then we play Christmas at either 6:30 or 9 pm on either ESPNU or ESPN2

If we lose Saturday we play Monday at 12:30 am (not a typo) on ESPNU
Then we play Christmas at either 1 pm or 3 pm on ESPNU

How they placed the teams in the bracket is ass backwards. You have two Eastern timezone teams guaranteed to play at 12:30 in the morning, maybe three, Charlotte in the first game, the loser of our game against Bucknell, Charlotte if they lose to TCU. Looking at the other side of the bracket, you have one Eastern team, a Mountain team, a Pacific team and Hawaii. The teams on the other side won't start a game after 7 Eastern unless they make the championship game. The two sides should be switched, and you should have the one with three Eastern and one Central play the earlier games

Did you switch time zones in the middle of that post? Certainly they won’t play at 1pm or 3pm eastern time Christmas Day. Should be 7 or 9pm EST right?

I did not. 4 games at 1, 3, 6:30 and 9 et. Like I said, this bracket and times don't make sense. Here is the bracket with Eastern times:

That 3rd game, if we are in the loser's bracket, is one fucked up deal. Talk about messing with people's internal clocks....teams will be sleepwalking thru that one.

Looking at the bracket I've instantly become concerned about the Middle Tennessee game. We should win, but if we're still messed up time wise that could be ugly.

I also don't understand the gap on the first day between the two brackets. The second game of the early bracket should end about 7-7:30, then URI doesn't play until 10, then you've got a game after that, but the last two games are online, so it's not even like they're late for TV purposes.

A reasonable goal for this tournament for Rhody should be to come away from it with two wins. Just playing TCU and or Colorado will be a bonus as they are probably the best teams in the field. Would be advantageous to avoid playing Hawaii on their own home court. While this tournament may not have a bevy of top ranked teams, most of the participants are decent enough to beat anyone. Charlotte, the lone team with a losing record, is probably the worst team of the bunch.

Unlike many holiday tournaments that are played in tiny gyms, these games will be played at the 10,300 seat capacity Stan Sheriff Center, homecourt of the Hawaii Rainbows.

It probably has to do with the ticketing- The games look like they're played in sessions (early and late) with 1 ticket good for both games in the session.After the early session they clear out the arena and ticket the later session separately. It's what they do for the 1st round in the NCAAs.

Not just this year. Charlotte has not been good for many recent seasons. They have had just one winning season (f2013-14) since leaving the A-10 back in 2013 when they basically decided that low level FBS football was more important.

There has been a big drop off from the 14 year span from 1991-92 to 2004-05 that saw the program go to nine NCAA Tournaments. Its last NCAA appearance was now fourteen seasons ago. Basketball attendance has seen a big decline as the program now routinely gets 3k range crowds at the 9,105 seat Halton Arena on campus. Given that their football program has really struggled as well and is still yet to field a winning season record, one has to question whether their decision to add football and join an all sports league (CUSA) was sound.

URI should win this game but Bucknell should not be taken lightly by this young team. Bucknell has made back to back NCAA Tournaments and held their own against much stronger P5 opponents losing to 4 seed West Virginia 86-80 in 2017 and 3 seed Michigan State 82-78 this past March.

Bucknell also just took #15 Ohio State down to the wire this past weekend at Ohio State losing 73-71.

There is a typo in the Losers Bracket Christmas day game. Game #10 is at 10:30 AM HT (3:30 PM ET). The game is scheduled to start 2 1/2 hours after Game 9 (8:00 AM HT).
