The Rhode Island men's soccer team is off to a great start to its season. It has won its first two games with shutouts on the road at BU (2-0) and Bryant (4-0). Will next host Penn State at home Friday 08/31/18 at 7pm.

Good work by the Men’s team! They deserve a good crowd for the game agaInst Penn St! 4-0 in soccer is like winning by 30 in football.

My family is planning to be there on Friday Night. What is the value of this game to the URI Athletic Dept? Could the familiarity of the two subject athletic departments ever lead to a football game at Beaver Stadium...how awesome would that be? I would guess way better via national exposure and momentarily than a game at UConn or Central Michigan. I know college soccer and football are a million miles away from each other, but having competitive teams in all sports can't help a athletic office from developing relationships with other more higher profile schools, at least relative to some sports.

Solid 1-0 win over Penn State tonight which was picked preseason to finish 6th in the Big 10.
URI now undefeated at 3-0.

Not only undefeated. They have not yet given up a goal in three games.

I was there, great crowd, although, I guess many students left at the half, I don't know why. I think they were students.
We carried the play most of the game, could have had at least another goal. Penn State came on the last 15 minutes, they got a penalty kick and their man hit the crossbar.

Didn’t end up making the game. It’s listed 2K for the attendance. Was that mostly students? Are they obligated to go to a game for URI101 class. Do they even have that class anymore?

I don't know if it's a thing or not, but classes haven't started yet, students move in Labor Day Weekend

URI wins again to go 4-0.
4th straight shut out as we beat Holy Cross 3-0
Edvin Akselsen comes in as a sub in the 2nd half and scores his first goal as a URI Ram then amazingly he scores his second exactly 1 minute later
Next up is at Marist Saturday 7pm
Marist is 1-2 but just came off a huge 1-0 win at #17 Nationally Ranked University of the Pacific

In the latest NCAA soccer poll taken before the HC game, URI got exactly one vote. Why UNH, La Salle, Vermont are getting more votes than of URI is a puzzle as is the UMass Lowell ranking at #22. I have to conclude this ranking is because URI has yet to play a ranked team or a significant opponent on the road.(UVM lost a close OT game at #10 Duke, for example) Our first shot at a ranked team will come when we play at A-10 rival Fordham, #11, on Sept 29. The other significant game to be circled is UConn next week. But first we have to win at Marist.

URI strikes first against Marist with 18 minutes to go in 1st half. 1-0 Rhody

Bound to be ranked!

You never hear of a soccer team dominating that much in 5 games.

Start off the husky demolition Tuesday and finish it off Saturday!

In last week's national Top 25 ranking, URI got only one vote. More surprising was that URI was not included in the top 10 in the Northeast region. That certainly will change when Monday's poll comes out since several teams in that poll - Albany, Fairleigh Dickinson, Dartmouth, and St. Francis all posted losses this past week.

Obadiah,
Are you refereeing to the soccer America poll? This comes out on Tuesdays and includes games Monday through Sunday each week.
URI now sits atop the A10 with a perfect 5-0
Fordham is now 3-0-1 having tied Bryant 1-1 in double OT. At Bryant. Bryant had lost all their games prior to this so a bad tie for Nationally Ranked Fordham
I think URI will be Nationally Ranked this week In Soccer and 100% sure Nationally Ranked for Football. Who would have thunk it?

No, ramster, I was referring to the United Coaches Soccer D1 National Poll and their several regional polls. I was mistaken because their poll also comes out as of Tuesday not Monday.

For all those Soccer Nuts out there, this is a good website for tracking the men's soccer teams RPI ranking....currently 38th in D1. Not sure how the NCAA soccer tourney committee decides who gets an at-large bid to their annual national tournament, but I gotta think they at least consult this sort of ranking system.

Are they rescheduling the game? The team doesn't play that many matches per year as it is, UConn usually has a very good team, so a win on the road against them would really help Rhody. Especially if at the end of the season URI is vying for a at-large bid to the Tourney.

URI is one of two teams to not allow a goal yet this year, the other is Kentucky

nevermind, URI is now the only team in the country to not allow a goal (Kentucky is tied 2-2 in their game currently going on)

As of today URI is ranked 24th in the Soccer America Poll, first time ranked in it this season.
Great, powerful, convincing road win tonight at PC winning 3-0 and yet another shutout.

No team I’d rather beat at any level, in any sport.

Rhode Island entered the game ranked in three national polls - Top Drawer Soccer (#23), Soccer America (#24) and College Soccer News (#30). The Rams also received votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches national poll.

Nevada basketball doesn't see a problem with this.

That was total BS what Nevada did to the BB team no excuse, be a man and honor your contact. To me it's funny how postponed games never seem to get rescheduled...maybe it's a NCAA thing??? It's not like UConn is located a plane trip away from URI! Jump on a bus and go play on a open date. This has happened with the baseball team as well, of course thy play like 50 games so it's not a huge deal.

Gotta give them some credit after the two losses to Brown and Fordham the boys have straighten things out with two wins in a row. Their RPI ranking is up to 20th in D1, which I assume would put them in the running for a at-large bid to the NCAA tourney. They also are listed as "Others Considered" in the Top Draw Soccer National Top 25 rankings. So I guess this means they sit at No. 27 in the Country....I'll take that!

Others considered: Syracuse (5-4-1), Rhode Island (8-2-0), Wisconsin (6-4-2), New Hampshire (8-2-1), Cornell (8-2-0)

URI’s win over St Joe’s gave us 6 wins in our last 7 games
Included wins over SLU, UMASS and BC
We are alone in 2nd place 5-2 (12-3)
VCU is in 1st 5-1-1 (9-5-1)

Games remaining URI @GMU 4-3 (6-7) with VCU home to SBU 3-4 (7-8-1) both games on Halloween then the A10 Tournament

Great season for Freshman Edvin Akselsen whomnow has 18 points on 7 goals and 4 assists. Akselsen really provided a spark to this team once he got the well earned starting role early in the season

We get a home game in the first round of the A10 tournament on Sunday if we win or tie tomorrow. If we lose we can still host Sunday but the scenarios would take too long for me to figure out. We need to finish in the top 4.
