So, if he didn't meet the requirements to enroll, how did he enroll?

Re: '19 PA C - Naheem McLeod (Florida State)
I wonder if he attended any classes before the NCAA ruling will he need to sit any time. Seems to me that the FLa. athletic dept. blew this, not McLeod.

Very slim chance he ends up with the Seminoles.raminwarwick wrote: ↑4 years ago I wonder if he attended any classes before the NCAA ruling will he need to sit any time. Seems to me that the FLa. athletic dept. blew this, not McLeod.

Go to a JC this year, join us next year. Sounds good to me.

You can take courses at a university/college as a non-matriculating student. They would’ve known in June that he wasn’t cleared by the NCAA. He probably took the classes to try to become qualified. I doubt very much that he lost any eligibility.

Maybe that is who TJ was visiting in Philly on Thursday.
McLeod should work hard academically for the next semester and enroll at URI in January.
Having one open scholarship provides flexibility for URI.

Re: '19 PA C - Naheem McLeod (Florida State)
Wasn’t Ty the lead recruiter on him? He might still have interest in URI and would be a great get. Biggest worry with him is as soon as a Power 5 school mentions his name he will probably go to play there. He would definitely be the top big to get of anyone we are recruiting, but know all the details

He is still showing interest in FSU on Instagram. Not sure he isn’t going back there after he gets his academics in order.

Requirements for FSU? Yikes! They have requirements?
Yup, we’ll now have pages of posts that he should come to Rhody.

It’s the NCAA Clearinghouse. Same for all schools.

If he can't qualify at FSU he won't here that's for sure.

Re: '19 PA C - Naheem McLeod (Florida State)
I believe it was around 2004 when there was a study done and it found that on average the FSU football players read at a 2nd grade level. I'll have to do research to find that again.

Given that we need a big man and he’s 7 ft +, I think most of us could easily forget about the nonsense we’ve experienced with him.. worth another look?

I think he will return to FSU when he meets the NCAA Clearinghouse qualifications. I would guess he will take courses at a JUCO for one semester and be back at FSU in January (and redshirt).

I will agree with you sir. I would easily forget about all that if he signed with us and enrolled.

Re: '19 PA C - Naheem McLeod (Florida State)
Seems like there would be a lot of questions around this guy, especially academics wise.
If he does go back to FSU, he's not likely to play much...maybe he could come here as a transfer down the road.

I hadn’t seen this article before. I know that Boswell thought he was committing to Rhody just a few days before McLeod’s announcement.

Re: '19 PA C - Naheem McLeod (Florida State)
I don't know - I feel like this is often suggested, but seldom ends up happening. I can't remember if we had this situation with Leroy Butts, or if it was another player, but I think in most cases when a player can't qualify for a school, they both move on. (Speaking of Butts, man, he's not producing much for Radford.)

So obviously in a year a lot can change, but if we were his 2nd choice....

Re: '19 PA C - Naheem McLeod (Florida State)
Not sure there is a need to take a shot at Ty. Talking to several of the new players last week and many of them mentioned Ty was the lead recruit - Hammond, Sheppard & Topin.

Where is the shot? That is where he is. He isn’t working.

Is that normal? I was hoping he was in the portal and on his way to Rhody after nearly committing.

Re: '19 PA C - Naheem McLeod (Florida State)
Earlier in this thread, I expressed some doubt about that happening, but hey, it looks like it is. He didn't seem to play for Chipola this year.steviep123 wrote: ↑4 years agoIs that normal? I was hoping he was in the portal and on his way to Rhody after nearly committing.

FSU just picked up another 7 footer, Naheem made a very poor decision. Expect him to never suit up for FSU

That's Leonard Hamilton's MO, seems like he picks up 1-2 7 footers every year

Re: '19 PA C - Naheem McLeod (Florida State)
Florida State had 18 players on its roster last year that played during the season
The last game of the season 17 players saw action
Big bench

That’s a full lineup of walkons then. You only get 13 scholarship players.

Re: '19 PA C - Naheem McLeod (Florida State)
Since I'm journeying down memory lane today... McLeod is (finally) on the roster for FSU this year. Between the extra year all players got and a redshirt year in junior college, he has three years left - If he uses them all, he would be 25 in his final season.

Re: '19 PA C - Naheem McLeod (Florida State)
Which is amazing given that he puts basically none of them into the NBA. Not sure what gives him that edge.wpbrown8267 wrote: ↑4 years agoThat's Leonard Hamilton's MO, seems like he picks up 1-2 7 footers every year

It looks like he’s only going to see time in blowouts. He did not get any time in the one point win over BU.ramster wrote: ↑2 years agoActually he is suited up and playing this year:rjsuperfly66 wrote: ↑2 years agoWhich is amazing given that he puts basically none of them into the NBA. He may have to transfer down if he wants consistent playing time.

Re: '19 PA C - Naheem McLeod (Florida State)
Jon Clark-like usage, it seems like, since he's averaging around 10 minutes per game. He had 7 boards against Duke, but even with that, he's 1.9 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in his 10.6 MPG, which is kind of surprisingly low. All that being said, hell, wish we had him, since you can't teach 7'4".
