Ideal official visit schedule for URI
2nd w/e in Sept - Walker & Bishop
3rd w/e in Sept - Wahab & Long

Btw, Martin played on WeR1 last year so he has some contacts that could help with Wahab. Obviously Cox has some WeR1 contacts also. Wahab only played this year for WeR1 though.

Long tweeted out to Wahab but later deleted it. Possibly told by staff to delete. Nit sure if it is a violation or if they don’t want him being public when they are recruiting Walker and Wahab.

Yup. URI is now in a position where it is a bellwether for the A-10, along with VCU. As good as URI has been at times throughout its history, this is kind of uncharted territory in terms of carrying the torch for our league. The other side of the coin to being on a “nice list” is that you now have to beat out name brand programs for players. That’s fine by me. Embrace the challenge.

IIRC, I believe Dana was openly recruiting the other '18 guys last year.

Dana was and then each player that committed joined in. Martin helped recruit Harris. They all recruited Adams.

Wahab is UCONN’s third choice for Centers behind Kofi Cockburn and Tre Mitchell. He is Rhody’s first choice.

More worried about Pitt and Cuse. Doesn't seem like UConn wants him too bad. Not sure we'll get an official visit but it's nice to be listed with a lot of big boys here.

If this guy gave us a verbal, do we take it? Or are we waiting to see what Walker does?

Absolutely! Completely different players. Walker will mature to be more of a wing like Iverson.
The scholarships will fix themselves.

A chance here to follow 'the best class ever' with 'the best class ever'.

FWIW, his AAU teammate, G Isaiah Wong, is down to Miami, Pitt, UConn and also Villanova and Clemson, with Miami thought to be the favorite.

I guess my question should have been. ....If there's only one scholarship left (assuming we have verbals from Long and Bishop), do we accept a verbal from Q or wait to see what Walker is doing?

There's only one person I could see leaving and that's Tertsea. But if he likes it here and is getting the education he wants, why would he leave? I don't see Layssard leaving after his junior year and I think Christion loves it here too. So, where is that 4th scholarship coming from?

I know scholarships have a way of working themselves out but going into a season knowing ahead of time that someone on the roster is getting pushed aside afterwards would not be my preference for running a program. Doesn’t seem like something this group does or would do, either. This isn’t like Christion sitting for a year to put both himself and the team in a better position.

Would it work for Tertsea or Thompson to leave where they already used a redshirt year, especially Thompson?

Thompson could graduate and play somewhere else as a 5th year senior righg away. But why would he do it if he loves it here? And I, for one, believe he will be a big contributor for the next 2 years.

Logically the two candidates would be Thompson as a grad transfer closer to home and Tertsea because he would still have two years of eligibility left.

Why would Thompson do it - if his playing time was minimal the second half of this year due to the development of Martin, Silverio and Tate.

Right now Rhody has one verbal commit. Last year they had one verbal commit back out (Amir Harris) and one signed NLOI back out in Adams.

The coaches focus right now is to get three verbal commits. They would love for Wahab (top 100 rated by some services) in that three.

Back to Wahab thread.

Rhode Island has already struck once in the 2019 class, thanks to the commitment of three-star wing Mekhi Long, and more good news could be ahead for the Rams. Do I believe that they will eventually land Qudus Wahab? No. While URI made the final list of 12 for him, others such as Louisville, Virginia Tech, Pitt and Syracuse have a better chance.

They are in a better spot with Anthony Walker. The Rams were one of the first to prioritize Walker before his so-called "blow-up" this past July, and have remained a heavy presence in his recruitment. Expect the Rams to remain a heavy factor with him in the coming weeks.

Wahab has taken three unofficial visits (Georgetown, VCU & Temple) and has scheduled four more unofficial visits (UCONN, Ohio State, Pitt & Syracuse). Will cut his list down after visits. Rhody is done.

I think it helps URI if Pitt doesn't have a commitment from any '19s when Walker makes his decision.
It can add to the doubt about Pitt turning it around next year. They need recruits with the level of rebuild they have to do.
If Pitt had a commitment from Wahab when Walker was deciding, the sell could be that the two of them will be Pitt's front court of the future.

URI sell to Walker can be - Come to Rhody our 19-20 team is NCAA Tournament level. #norebuildhere

With Govan and Mourning both graduating, he'd step right in.
If we are making guesses, that is mine!

(I'd have scoffed at Pitt a month ago, but it looks like next year is not a total rebuild situation)
