Let me just say this, I don't think we are finishing 8th in this league next season. Like there is no way that is gonna happen.

Typical homer prediction tho I agree St Joe’s is capable of winning the league.

The UMass fan has UMass third? K. I like St. Joe’s a lot with Brown back. I can’t keep track of who’s still around SLU. I feel like Dayton could maybe suck? I don’t know. Don’t think I would have them in front of URI. I feel like every year we say the A10 is better than the one before, but then it doesn’t turn out that way.

I think we have as good a chance as any to win the league.

Can't see Dayton being better than us.

Agreed, I expect us to go through some growing pains but honestly who else in the league should be favored over us? The margins are slim at the top.

They can all pick us last for all I care.

Motivation can be a wonderful thing.

Imo we should be a 50-50 shot for a double bye, as things stand right now.

I can see George Mason pushing the top of the league. Don't think we're 8 but around 5 may be more accurate

So many unknowns coming into this year, seems like its impossible to predict. Very well could be that by the time conference play rolls around the freshman are ready to make a strong impact and push top 3 or 4 in the league. But with basically entirely new leadership in place (both coaching and veteran players) it remains to be seen how it all comes together. A middle of the pack finish doesn't seem out of the question either if there are growing pains.

St. Louis might have the talent, but do they have the coach?

As we all know Ford is a great recruiter, but bench coach? His track record isn't exactly stellar.

pre-season, I'm putting my money on Richmond winning the league.

Gilyard and Golden are only Sophomores and Sherod is a Junior. The loss of Buckingham is a question mark.

I say we finish top 4. Growing pains in the OOC and gel in conference

I don't see it with Richmond or Golden. Golden killed them last year when they came here. He scored a bunch of points, but he needed a metric shit ton of shots to do it and he allowed way more points than he scored. And Mooney doesn't seem good enough to bring it all together after the loss of Buckingham. They'll be fighting for a double bye probably but I don't see them winning the league

Clearly the rest of the A-10 thinks we lost everything and are in total rebuild mode. We especially on this forum don’t think that is the case. We’re going to find out whether this program has sustainability or not. Can our winning culture bring up to a top 4 finish during a transition year? That’s the critical question and we all I believe think the answer is yes and the rest of the league thinks it’s a no. This is going to be a fun year to see what we can do.

I don’t think there will be as much change in the standings as some of these predictions are suggesting. I like St Joes, Davidson and us. I think Richmond is more likely to jump a few spots than St. Louis, George Mason or Umass. Those 3 seem to be the hot picks but I’ll believe it when I see it.

Have to agree . I don't see that many changes to the top either . If the incoming recruits are as advertised , I have to believe URI challenges for the top spot and in my mind is still the favorite . I think St. Louis will be in the top four as well. I am not so high on St. Joes or George Mason. I think Dayton may challenge for a top four spot despite their losses. i don't think the rest of the league is as strong, so I go with URI, St. Louis, Davidson and Dayton as the top four.

Anywhere from 3-7 is about right......a big range, but it all depends on the recruits.

What about Dayton's roster and Grant's coaching makes you think they'd be a top 4 team? I don't see them having a winning conference record

I would usually agree with this assessment but who are teams 1-4 that are in front of them? Hard to say anybody has a material talent advantage on URI next year so I have a hard time skidding then that far down.

Dayton has Obidah Toppin eligible this season . You may remember URI was high on him but he committed to Dayton in 2017 and sat out. they also have 4 star recruit Dwayne cohill and they return Josh Cunningham , and Jalen Crutcher who were arguably two of their best three starters last season . Dayton will be better. The transfers left because of playing time . None were top players last year. Also Jordan Davis and Trey Landers will return . They both played significant minutes and were major contributors.

Don’t forget that Davidson lost their top player last year as well, yes Grady is back but is the rest of the team dynamic enough to be a top 4 A-10 team above URI?

Dayton will be better this season, but not by a lot. Top 6 imo.

We'll see how good Toppin is.....did we back off him due to talent or academics?

We backed off him because we were looking for a big who could help immediately. I think the staff liked him but thought he was a year or two away. They took Ryan Preston instead who turns out was not able to help immediately either.

I posted this in the transfer forum as it was in response to Nick Robinson deciding to leave St. Josephs. Most of this pertains to next years A-10 standings so thought I would post it here as well.

Ouch, that is a big loss for St. Joes. I thought he looked like a good player and was going into his junior year. Really late in the process so cannot really replace him for this year.

Not a good offseason for the A10. VCU's top transfer blew out his achilles, Antempkoukas leaving Dayton, this situation with St Joes. These were all teams expected to step up this year. I still think Dayton will be better (the other players they lost were no biggies), St. Joes about the same, and VCU worse. And the players Richmond lost hurts as they would have a top four team if they did not lose 2 starters that transferred, Fore and Buckingham.

The only team I see much better than last year is St. Louis who I think will be the class of the league. Rhody and St. Bonaventure will take a step back as will Davidson losing Aldredge. Davidson does have a very good back court coming back and a very good coach so should be OK. I know GM has every one back plus Reuter, the transfer from UVA, but they were 9 and 9 last year and won alot of close games. I do not expect a jump into the top four.

My top 6;

1. St Louis
2. Davidson
3. Rhode Island
4. Umass
5. St Joes
6. Dayton

Will see how it goes, but I do not see this big uptick in the A10. The conference really needs VCU and Dayton to get back to where they have been. I think St Louis and Rhody will stay towards the top of the league and that will go a long way to getting the A10 back to where it belongs if VCU and Dayton can get back to where they have been.

I think the answer is somewhere in the middle. League-mates are making too big a deal out of our losses and ignoring our incoming/bench talent coming in. And we are too close to the recruiting discussion and probably inflating the impact the newcomers will make. The national guys will actually rate us highly not due to remaining players, but laziness; they just peruse last year's standings and only make slight adjustments.

With a gun to my head if I had to select the most likely finish, it would be 4th. The newcomers will mesh during the conference schedule, however the league specifically designs the schedule to make the upper echelon teams have a tougher slate for RPI purposes. So while the team will be playing well I could see a number of close losses, and an unexpected team rise up and pad their win total with a softer schedule.

Grady is projected as 12-15 pick in most NBA 2019 Mock Drafts. This will be his last year.
