A 2 star center with an underwhelming list of offers? Don't we have 2 of these riding the pine right now?

so for the record, Verbal commits had Cyril as a 2.7, Layssard as a 3, Tertsea as a 3 and Andre Berry as a 2.

Impossible to judge the future by rankings alone!!! so much is where they play, exposure, AAU team etc etc.

We have no idea how Cox is going to shape things to come, also I have no bones to pick regarding DC's eye for talent. Put the brakes on the star number talk and list talk and trust the coach to put all the right pieces together. Cox has also been offering highly recruited 4* players. I'm sure like DH, Cox has his own top prospect list, he's the professional and we are the amateurs.

I agree there are exceptions to the star ratings. I don’t agree about a weak list of other schools interested. The other coaches are professionals.

I'm pretty sure that was the guy that tweeted that information this morning. Not sure why the first tweet was deleted and then he posted it again.

Good point, but it also supports what I stated, those are all skilled pro's and we are not. There is a reason Somerville is on DC's list, I'm in the trust the coach to craft and show us his vision part of the relationship at this point. If Ray is a hidden talent capable of filling a role for the team go get him coach. There are sooo many immeasurable factors we don't consider. Maybe Somerville is extremely coachable, maybe Cox sees a certain set of skills he has that will be needed, maybe Cox thinks he's a true diamond in the rough with beast potential say by Jr year, whatever, trust.

I am not sure about the Tweets from Ari that Rhody offered and from Pat Lawless that he is visiting Kingston today. No one else has reported either of these and the known recruiting guys report every offer. Ray himself hasn’t tweeted about an offer from URI or the visit and he has tweeted about other offers and visits. Ari is the student manager for Syracuse. Pat has tweeted incorrect info before. I stopped following him after the second time his tweet was wrong.

Josh Verlin/City of Basketball Love covers Phily area hoops exclusively and reported the list of Somerville’s offers, including one from URI.

With just two open spots, as of now, I’m not sure of how a potential early verbal from a guy like this fits, but I imagine they are.

I agree with Ace. If he is committing June 30th, it isn’t with URI. I believe we have 3 open spots though - one open from this year, Akele & Preston.

Real size?
Tertsea 6’10”
Layssard 6’8”
Cyril 6’8”
Harris 6’8”
Tate 6’7”
Preston 6’7”

Talent over size. I would take Hass at 6’7” over all of the guys above at this point.

I love the size that Tertsea has, Cyril is a beast but still slightly undersized. Layssard seems a bit weaker to me but we will see and Harris was a pleasant surprise. We do have size but we can't get knocked around again like Duke did to us, I don't care who the team is, so consistent big man (6'9+) recruiting is nice to see.

Still nothing from Ray Somerville about an unofficial visit yesterday that Pat Lawless tweeted about. I don’t think this visit happened.

Edit: Ray Somerville Instagram video in Rhody uniform. In Kingston either today or yesterday.

Just watched Somerville play for Team Final. In my opinion he is clearly the best big man Rhody is looking at behind Walker.
His team was down 20 and came back. He scored 5 points on the last two possessions in regulation to tie the game with 3 seconds left. He scored on OReb & was fouled. Hit the FT to tie it. They won by 1 in OT. He scored the basket to give them the lead. He controled the end of the game with his defense, rebounding & scoring. Has a high motor - some authoritative slam dunks & got up and down the court well. He was very engaged with his teammates encouraging them.

I rate him way ahead of McLeod and Mading. I have watched all three play.

How big is Ray Somerville in person? I've heard anywhere from 6'9" to 'near' 7'0" (a guy interviewing him said this).

Sorry, I was watching on Baller TV and not there is person. Ray states that he is 6’10 240. That looks legit based on the video. He seems built similar to Cyril and a few inches taller.

Way ahead? Mading is VERY good. Silky smooth for 6’10 after that 5 inch growth spurt.

I will watch more of Mading. I watched part of first game and he did nothing. I watched complete game 3. His team scored 92 points. Again a lower level opponent. He hit 4 or 5 threes (nice shot from deep). He didn’t score a 2 and got 2 rebounds. Doesn’t do much on defense. Right now he is a perimeter player. I would remove him from the big man list. He would have to play the 3. He was the 4th best player on his team in that game. All of his top teammates shoot the 3 very well.

I think the write up from Elevate Hoops (link above) is accurate. The big guys development is slower than the guards and SF.
This kid is legit 6’10” at 17 years old. He switched AAU teams and had an injury. Recruiting sites can lose focus when that happens. Good defender and rebounder. Gets up and down the floor well. He is coordinated. Offense will develop.

Someone mentioned in a different thread that the coaching staff creates its own top 150. I would guess Somerville is in their top 150.

Cyril was rated 3 star and #326 nationally when he signed with URI.

Thanks. Listed at 240 and looks to have a frame that could add more muscle as he matures. 6’10 with athleticism would be a score in the A10.
Still seems odd that he doesn’t have more offers.
