This is a kid I would have loved to have come to Rhody. He grew up in Mass. He ended up going to Wichita State. In what little playing time he has got in his first 10 games, he has struggled. His dad posted this yesterday. Everyone sees things differently.

He looked quick and was a good shooter when I saw him play 2 years ago. Not big, but probably 3 inches taller than Fatts, and he's a pest on defense, similar to Fatts.

The next 4 weeks is pivotal.

We need at least one big and a shooter.

And those need to be the type good enough to contribute right away. Not easy to do for us, but it's necessary imo.

No projects please.

If we sign 2 and leave one opening, that's probably OK due to the number of talented transfers that will be available.

Berry and either of our top 2 big man targets. We get them, and that's good.

Fernandes might be good, but I think we have more pressing needs at other positions.

Center and SG......duh.....great athletes who can't shoot and don't have good BB IQ we don't need either.

UMass offered Fernandes in high school, as did Rhode Island, Fordham, DePaul, East Carolina, St. Louis and St. Bonaventure. He signed with Wichita State in Nov. 2018.
Next season, Fernandes will be one of seven UMass players from Woodstock Academy, where assistant coach Tony Bergeron coached before joining head coach Matt McCall’s staff. He’ll join rising sophomores Preston Santos, T.J. Weeks and Tre Mitchell and rising junior Dibaji Walker in Amherst.

Guard Cairo McCrory and forward Dyondre Dominguez have also signed with the Minutemen.

UMASS was going hard after Femi Odukale, ranked 7th New England and #1 in MASS but PITT prevailed, then dominoes fell again with Trey Mcgowens moving out from PITT.
