Re: '15 NY PF Kassoum Yakwe (St. John's) (Grad Transfer)
Someone who couldn't make it at St John's, a decommit from URI, someone who didn't start for Duquesne. I'm not thrilled if I'm a UConn fan.

He's probably one of those guys that is a warm body that Hurley has some familiarity with. Not a game changer but will help move program in right direction a la Jarelle Reischel/Biggie Minnis.
UConn is incredibly thin up front too. Also, Chris Mullin has been a complete flop at St. John's, I would expect Hurley to get more out of this kid than Mullin.

Have seen him compared to Biruta. In more ways than one, I suppose.

I'm not impressed with that roster. They will struggle again next year.
However, I expect they will do a lot better with those 4 open spots for 2019-20.

I don't see how he would be compared to Biruta. Biruta was a skilled offensive big while Yakwe is a very good rim protector and solid rebounder.... He certainly can't score the ball. Not a bad get for Dan but nothing special.SmartyBarrett wrote:Have seen him compared to Biruta. In more ways than one, I suppose.

Here's the actual tweet I saw.
My Biruta thinking was that regardless of style of play, Yakwe is more of a short-term fix that DH will use in his rebuild.
