Tyler Wilson
I thought about posting this in the baseball team thread, but I think a stand alone thread discussing Tyler might be in order. For those of you not familiar, going into last season he was our ace and was already one of our best pitchers of all time. You can see the rundown of the awards he's received over his career here:
http://www.gorhody.com/sports/m-basebl/ ... d?view=bio
Along with being one of our best pitchers he was definitely on track for being drafted by a major league team when his season was cut short last year with a labrum issue. He's now had four starts this year, all on Fridays.
At #9 Texas A&M he went 4 innings, giving up 6 hits, 4 runs, all earned, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts
At Seattle he went 5 innings, gave up 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts
At Jacksonville he went 5, giving up 7 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts
At #1 Florida he went 6, giving up 8 hits, 7 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts
On the season he's 0-3 with a 4.95 ERA, certainly not up to his lofty standards. In 20 innings he's allowed 25 hits, 18 runs, 11 earned, 7 walks and 18 strikeouts. He's obviously gone up against 2 very difficult teams after almost a year of not being a game, so it's too early to read much into his start. The 7 walks are concerning, but not surprising considering the layoff. The 18 strikeouts in 20 innings hint that his stuff might still be there, which is promising because labrum injuries are notoriously bad news for pitchers.
Assuming Beck Field is playable, which is a big assumption with the weather we've had and are scheduled to have next week, his first home start will be two weeks from today against Davidson.

Yeesh that is a rough start. Was thinking of getting down to that Saturday game before Easter, hopefully they will have radio coverage of his Friday game.

So...what's the parking situation? Looks like there's a home game at 3 on Tuesday (SHU)... can you still park in that lot near the field?

Anyone know about this or been to a game yet this year? Pics of the new setup, por favor?NYGFan_Section208 wrote:So...what's the parking situation? Looks like there's a home game at 3 on Tuesday (SHU)... can you still park in that lot near the field?

Re: Tyler Wilson
T Wilson seems to be having a rough year...0-6, less than 5 IP per start, 4.25 ERA...but 39 K's in 42 innings.
Anyone know if it's from playing on a not very good team, or if he's still trying to come back from injury...maybe both?

Re: Tyler Wilson
Labrum injuries are notoriously tough to come back from - Like you might get back on the mound within a year, but it can take two years to get your full stuff and "feel" back. Similar issues with Tommy John, too.NYGFan_Section208 wrote:T Wilson seems to be having a rough year...0-6, less than 5 IP per start, 4.25 ERA...but 39 K's in 42 innings.

Nice healthy strikeouts per nine...hopefully he can end this year on a good note and return to full form next year....SGreenwell wrote:Labrum injuries are notoriously tough to come back from - Like you might get back on the mound within a year, but it can take two years to get your full stuff and "feel" back. Re: Tyler Wilson
I wonder if he pitched anywhere during the offseason? If not, we could basically be dealing with a guy making the equivalent of rehab starts in real games.SGreenwell wrote:Labrum injuries are notoriously tough to come back from - Like you might get back on the mound within a year, but it can take two years to get your full stuff and "feel" back. Re: Tyler Wilson
I haven't been as big into baseball as I used to be so this might have changed, but even 5-10 years ago labrums/shoulders were considered the last big medical hurdle. Back then you knew pretty much exactly what would happen and when with Tommy John and the stuff coming back was almost a forgone conclusion, however with shoulders you didn't know if the pitcher's stuff would ever come all the way back.SGreenwell wrote:Labrum injuries are notoriously tough to come back from - Like you might get back on the mound within a year, but it can take two years to get your full stuff and "feel" back.
