NBA Draft....Hassan

Do you think there's any chance Hass gets drafted tonight some time in the 2nd round?

Once you hit the mid to late second round, teams basically just pick whoever they like, since the concept of value and big boards don't really apply that much. That being said, he's only been invited in for a handful of workouts and there's pretty much zero draft buzz on him, so it seems more likely that he's a summer league, NBADL or international player.

A handful? How many teams do players try out for?

Hm, I'm actually not sure, now that I think about it. But for him, I think another thread only mentioned one or two visits. If you're a guy on the fringes of the draft, I'd think that you would take as many invites and workouts as possible. I haven't heard or read anything about him being drafted.

It wouldn't surprise me if he did or did not make the league at some point, via the NBADL or summer ball process. He's obviously got good length and can play some defense, and once you get in past the 10th guy or so on a roster, it comes down to a GM or coach's personal preference on how you construct your roster. I think it's way more likely that he plays internationally - the same with Iverson - but it's not crazy to me that they could get a cup of coffee in the NBA.

Bentil barely got drafted last year and was younger with a more NBA ready body, so no, I don't see Martin getting drafted.

Off the top of my head, Martin worked out for:

Celtics
Knicks
Nuggets
Raptors
Bucks
Mavericks

That's 20 percent of the NBA... and that's only what has been reported. There could be more for all we know.

Additionally, the Nets could be interested? Good piece here.

The A-10, as a league, has had only two players in total selected in the last FIVE NBA drafts (2016 #21 DeAndre' Bembry-St Joe's/2015 #55 Cady LaLanne). Providence College, on its own, for comparison had two players selected in a single year (2016-Dunn & Bentil) and another chosen in 2013 (Ledo). Players from the A-10 for the most part are no longer getting drafted. The NBA draft is more and more going after foreign players and underclassmen (most A-10 players play the full four years).

So if I am reading the schedule correctly, Hassan's first game will be Saturday at 1pm ET and air on NBA TV.

On the flip side, if he practices well with players who already had a year of experience and practicing with professional teams then that is a feather in his cap.

Sucks he didn't even get in. Looking at the box score there were a lot of guys who didn't play. I never follow summer league much, does anybody know if this happens much and then a lot of those guys will get some time today? Hope Hassan gets a chance at least.

Just checked the box score from Sunday's game and deuces were wild for Hassan. 2 minutes, 2 points on FTs, 2 fouls. Unfortunately a plus/minus of -5 over those 2 mins. Based on the recap I can't tell if his PT came during garbage time but I presume so. Looks like the Magic started the game 21-0 and 32-9 after the 1st quarter and coasted from there.

He played the last couple of minutes in the first half.

Too bad he isn't getting more of a chance. Obviously it was going to be a long shot for him either way, but would have been nice to see him get a chance to show more in these games.

Got it, that makes the most sense in explaining the -5. Magic were significantly outscored that quarter.

Hass has played 11 minutes. 1-3 FGs, 1-2 FTs, 3 of his 4 rebounds on the offensive end

Martin now with 7 points, 5 rebounds in 15 minutes vs Dallas Mavericks with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Last 2 points were a nice running dunk
Martin comes out with 2 minutes to go. Nice effort today:
- 20 minutes played
- 3-5 FG, 3-4 FTs for 9 points
- 6 Rebounds (3 offensive)
- 1 Block, 1 TO, 1 PF
- Nice in that Dallas was one of the teams Martin worked out for.

Nice find Adam.
Martin's Dunk is fast and ferocious at the 7:25 point of this tape. Off a nice pass from Georges-Hunt
At the 2:10 point Martin has a nice rebound and putback amongst a lot of rebounding traffic
Martin is #42

From an article in Orlando sentinel......

At FSU, Isaac gained a reputation for unselfishness. And on Thursday, he did nothing to dispel that notion. During a question-and-answer session with reporters, someone asked him to name his favorite highlight from the Magic’s practices. Isaac answer was telling because it hinted at his priorities: Isaac raved about a dunk by summer league teammate Hassan Martin.

Hass also knocked down a baseline jumper in that clip. He's gotta do that consistently to have a chance.
I think he'll be playing in the D-league next season.

Edit : G-league!

Martin played 14 minutes in 1st half. 2-5 FGs, 1-1 FTs for 5 points. He had a nice 3 point play where he got fouled and made the FT. Also 2 nice assists in the 1st half. 2 rebounds, 1 TO, 1 Offensive Foul. +8 for him as Orlando leads 46-41 at the half. 1 Defensive Goaltending.

Martin 23 minutes
4-11 FG, 4-5 FT for 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 TO, 2 Blocked Shots,
Finished with a +15 which was the highest of any player in the game. Marcus Georges-Hunt was 2nd highest with +11
So proud of this guy
