I edited my previous comment. There were some tweets about us watching him and Jay Heath a year or so ago. Doesn’t look like we offered but showed interest.

Jermaine’s HC at Rock Creek left to take the Ast Coaches position at Bryant.

Massanutten Military plays a tougher schedule that Rock Creek.

The plan was for him to transfer to Mcnamara, but unfortunately he wasn't given the waiver by the conference to be eligible to play. Therefore, he will be transferring to Rock Creek. Their conference is much less stringent when it comes to transfers. Note- Rock Creek has a new coach this year, as the coach last year has moved on to be an assistant at Bryant.

Now he is transferring to McNamara. Must have got the waiver. Is anyone concerned that this will be his third school in 3 years and he switched AAU teams too. Why did he leave Massanutten? It seemed like they played a high level schedule and was a great PG year for Tyrese.

In Mehki's case, I am not too concerned about the transfer situation. Keep in mind there are more reasons to leave a situation beyond just simply basketball. I don't say that taking a shot at any school or coach in this particular situation. With the prevalence of transfers in today's high school and college basketball environment, I do think it's a fair question to ask but in this situation I don't believe it is any indication of any potential problem.

Exactly, he left his first high school, Ryken, when the coach left to be the head at St. John’s. Then he tried the Massanutten situation which was far away from a home but an opportunity to play for a GOOD team. Now that McNamara has a new coach and a reloaded roster, he fits in well with his hometown high school.

He is ranked around the right spot. He can’t be ranked with his limited offensive game. Hopefully he develops

Nothing wrong with a ranking of #200. That is very solid. He seems like the kind of player that every team needs. We can't have 5 shooters on the floor at once. I think he's going to be a great fit for this team. Let's give these young guys time to develop.

I like Long. He just looks much better with a class of Bishop and either Walker/McLeod or Diawara. If he is the top ranked recruit this year it doesn’t feel good at all. I think he will fit in our system with the right guys around him and provide defense like a Stanford Robinson did eventually.

These rankings put him higher than most national recruiting services which is a good sign for URI fans.

Agree begs the question of who to trust...he seems to be more highly regarded in his region, than by the national services. Is ranked higher than guys getting offers from seemingly better schools than were interested in Long. I think this speaks to why the recruiting services have so many flaws and why there are so many over ranked and under ranked kids each year.

Really like the kids frame, he just needs to improve his jumper and the rest will come to him. He, Martin, and Tate could give us the Celtics' positionless type of feel because they'll all be able to switch between each others guy on D.

Based on Cox comments on his radio show this week, it seems that Long will not break the rotation next year. Cox likes his motor, ability to cover multiple positions and overall game - contributes in many areas.

McNamara won 59-58 in their first game of the season at home vs Gonzaga DC. Mekhi Long was the games high scorer with 21 points.
Terrance Williams led Gonzaga with 20 points.
Gonzaga had 3 shot opportunities to win in the last 7 seconds of the game but could not hit.

I saw the 1,000 point tweet. I was wondering if that was his total for two schools. I believe he played for Bishop McNamara his Soph year, then Massanutten his Jr year and is now back at Bishop McNamara.

That’s an odd box score. Long’s team is shooting fine from the field (about same percentage as Landon), the other team hasn’t even been to the FT line, but yet they are getting destroyed. Just being beat decisively in terms of TOs, 3 pointers and on the offensive glass, leading to Landon taking about twice as many shots (half of those are threes, which they are making).

Big game for Long and McNamara tonight (Tuesday) as they visit Gonzaga at 7:30pm
For the year Long is 60-83 on FTs for 72% but has hit 16 of his last 19 over the last 3 games (including 9-10 last game) for 84%
