Good lord did a section of that become a Big East mastabatorial fantasy. Nobody was better off in the old Big East than they are in the ACC from a business and athletics standpoint. Yeah Pitt sucks now. It's not because they moved to the ACC, it's because they bungled the head coach position.

Yeah I did not get that either, and he was called on it in the comments and defended it. It is easier, not harder, to recruit from the ACC than the Big East, MSG or no MSG. But Stallings sucks, is the main takeaway I got from it.

To the extent anyone cares, Kevin Ollie's UConn Huskies are getting crushed at halftime by SMU in the AAC tournament, in what could be Ollie's last game.

Looks like one of our local media has Dan out the door. To tweet something like this right before the A10 tournament seems a little irresponsible to me.

That was a quote from Pete Thamel report. Relevant when national media like Thamel talk about local coach.

Yianni is a friend of the program.

Regardless of friend or not, his retweet is further promoting nothing but speculation.

Curious that I did not see any our local media speculating on other local coaches being discussed for one of the same positions:

I think URI fans are going to have to be less sensitive about this. First of all, it is news in RI when URI’s coach is mentioned in connection with another job, and media members have an obligation to report relevant news. Second of all, this is going to be a theme at this time of year every year that’s Hurley is here. Hopefully we have to deal with it for years into the future. Embrace the fact everyone wants your coach, or stay bent out of shape about it in perpetuity.

Was there really any news attached to Thamel's report though? Not even an unsourced report that the schools were definitely interested and would be trying to lure him. Hell, we all think Olly is out at UConn, but we don't even have that done yet.

yawn

some of us are acting like an average guy who landed a hot girlfriend out of his league.

Dan isnt gonna leave what he has here to go jump into a dumpster fire.

UConn is running a coach out on a rail only 3 years after he won it all...does that sound like the family atmosphere Dan wants?
Pitt is a brutal rebuild...why would a coach that can pick his spot go to that mess?

Kouriakis now falls into that category . Birdman knows a hell of a lot more about what's going on with URI basketball than Yianni Kouriakis. I can tell you that with 100% certainty.

Hey, my predictions are on fire recently, I predicted Berry would have a big role this year, got the w/l, leading scorer, in another thread I predicted DH would make this his last stop in his college coaching career, he'll finish what he started here (get us to perennial top 25, elite program status) and move on to the NBA a la Brad Stevens, so no worries folks...

"UCONN has its own fiscal issues"

And Pitt doesnt?? They are dumping $9.4 mill to Stallings as a going away present

Both programs are in dumpster fire mode right now, could not see Dan go there since both would be in a complete rebuild for years

It seems like a ton of money but they aren't going to pay $10MM to Stallings just to skimp out on a coach. They get $30MM/year from the ACC revenue. Money is not an issue like it might be for UConn. I honestly thought DH was going to bolt after year 3 or 4. Maybe he really just likes the school, people, area. Close enough to home, too. Sometimes you don't mess with happy. That being said....I really hope this isn't the year. Right after a great group of seniors leave and the 2018 recruits, at the very least, asking to look around again.

I would call Cooley, too. Jaime Dixon would raid NYC and NJ for great players. Guys like Chris Taft, Ashton Gibbs, Michael Young. I wonder if they think Hurley has an edge there? I wouldn't take Pitt if I was DH but they could throw $3MM/year and coaching in the ACC at him. It's in a bad spot, though. At least a four year turnaround. Jim Christian finally looks to have BC going a bit and it took getting really lucky in pulling two underrecruited guards out of NC. The ACC is just a beast.

To the people who truly matter -- players, recruits, URI admins -- they are aware of his status.

Have we learned NOTHING so far? Dan's agent, if contacted officially or otherwise, will listen and entertain any conversations. This head coaching industry gives coaches all the leverage, so he will listen to establish his market value.

Then his next meeting is with Dooley and Bjorn and we've seen what kinds of program enhancements this process has yielded.

Sold out buildings need to be rewarded bottom line.

Our coach has plenty of leverage based on performance and increased revenue from this season.

His agent is hired to make certain the reward is paid. The agent has no preference where the reward comes from. I am confident admin will step up and pay.

That is all

I honestly don't think DH would leave because of the money. I was wrong and thought for sure he was leaving a few years ago. He would have made more money. The issue is, if he ever wanted to leave, it's tough to imagine getting a better gig than UConn or Pitt. Yes, current dumpster fires, but those are big jobs. Maybe taking one shot at a league like the ACC is important to him? If I was betting, though, I would bet he stays.

I would not call UCONN a good gig.

Hurley can do better than both UCONN and Pittsburgh. You under rate his market value.

Because Cooley has let it be known he is not going anywhere. I personally don't think Hurley is going anywhere but until he comes out and says he is at URI to stay schools will come after him.
