I mean they could very well lose the last three. We win out and thats a #2 seed.

The team has just given no indication that they are capable of such a run.

Does knocking off a 5 loss team count as a quality win?? I think beating VCU along with having knocked off Cinci makes our resume look pretty good?? Or am i drinking the keaney blue colored kool-aid??

The home loss to Fordham really hurts us. Out of the 6 games after Dayton that was really the one game we couldn't afford to lose. In my opinion we'll need to go on a 7 game win streak (including the GMU win) to be considered for an at large.

If it come down to the home loss to Fordham, it's going to sting very badly. I just looked at the rankings, was the top "others votes" getter in 1 poll and the bottom "others votes" getter in the other....does not make much sense to me.

It would have been nice to have them come into Kingston ranked, but it won't happen.

In this week's AP Poll VCU is the 26th team, just out of the Top 25 with 39 points. This is quite a drop from #25 ranked Wichita State with 153 points.
Dayton has 9 points in the voting.

So it will be a solid victory for URI when we defeat the VCU Rams.
VCU will have remaining:
- Wednesday Mar 1 Dayton Away 8pm
- Saturday Mar 4 George Mason Home 2pm

If Dayton beats VCU on Wednesday, then Dayton should move into the Top 25 and our 2 losses to Dayton will look more respectable.

Can't Dayton VCU and Rhody just all make a pact to work together and get all of us in?

This is a must win! They need to prove they can do this. 2 years ago, they had two must win games at home, vs. Davidson and vs. VCU and lost both close contests. One of them probably would have put them in. They need this one bad. Hopefully VCU will be looking past us and at Dayton, but we can't count on that.

How many students do we expect for this one? 200? 500? 1000? 1500?

Over 1000 and I wouldn't be surprised if they have overflow students using up seats not sold to the general public.

As a current student, I would say that's a glass full philosophy saying there will be overflow. However, a tshirt giveaway and a big name like VCU should get 1000, but not as many as the Dayton game IMO.

All we need is enough people to give us a home court advantage. So if we get anywhere near as many students as before then then we will be fine.

So glad this is a 2pm tip! I'm not working thennn

I will be there on Saturday expecting the worst. I am not jumping back on the bandwagon. The last two games, while on the road, were against mediocre teams with pressure snd expectations low after the NCAA tourney chances gone defeat at home to Fordham. The VCU game will be against a good team in front of a big home crowd with plenty of pressure. That is a Rhody recipe for a choke job. Until they show otherwise, I have little hope. I expect more heartbreak. The only question will be how they do it. Will it be missed free throws, critical turnover, unable to get a shot off in final possession, bench T, ....etc.

Bunky writes of Hurley setting the bar high for expectations.
In reality, due to recent outcomes and history, Hurley has set the bar low...we all expect URI piss down their leg when the spotlight is on.

Couldn't agree any more with this sentiment. Its not if, but how will another large Ryan Center crowd go home disappointed.

as always, hope this wont be the case, but I've become numb to these crushing defeats.

We've already done all those I think...
maybe this time we will accidentally tip in the game winner FOR VCU.

I got an email saying all 100 and 200 level seats will have shirts, and season ticket holders in the 300s can get shirts when they pick up their yearly gift before the game.

I will be in sec 206 so I guess i am covered ?

That's the theory but we all know I will walk in and they will say no tshirts left !

My worst attendance in 32 years.......I missed three games this year.

.....I wish I could feel confident even though we are favored by two....Too much disappointment in big games in the past.

.....I know the players will play hard, but the coaching [or over coaching] during the game, is still a problem. Let the players win it.
.....My advice, Dan sit down and enjoy the game............. "Let 'em play Dan !"........there is plenty of coaching to do, when Moe-Ali draws fouls in bunches from our frontcourt players. Line up management will be job one. Reminders job two. That' why you have time outs.
VCU is too quick to not let our players play instinctively.

I'm not convinced of that yet. They basically lost at SBU and at GW but got bailed out. We'll see how the end of the season plays out.

I probably should be putting this in the "I'm an Idiot" thread. But, I'm actually getting excited about this game. IMO, this is NOW the biggest game in the Hurley era. If we win this one, there's absolutely NO REASON we shouldn't run the table in league play. That would at least give us a chance. This game is where the rubber meets the road. DON'T FUCK IT UP, DAN.

I just wish I didn't keep thinking of the old Andy Williams song, "A Fool Never Learns."

There are about 2500 tickets left if you include the student sections. I saw a lot of empty seats in the season ticket sections for the Fordham game. So, the questions are, 1.How many students show up?, and 2. Do the season ticket holders come back for this one or was Dayton the last straw?
