In the coaches show Dan mentioned Hassan Had gotten some procedure done on Monday, but still had little idea on what his timeline would be.

Also said Thompson(knee) and Martin had started rehabbing on Monday, not sure which one we'd see back first.

......sit both.....we should win the next two w/o them, before we start the A-10 schedule...no?

Agreed. Even if they may be ready, sit them and rest them now for at least a couple of week, especially Hass.

What was this 'procedure' done on Hassan?

Need them for Dayton....not before.....

If we win our next 3, which we should at least, and then somehow beat Dayton...then this team has a pulse and an NCAA tourney bid is possible.....

If not, then forget it....that's the deal.....

I know I've said they're toast, but they have that chance........if they are ever going to win a big game.....

post Cincy of course....

He didn't specify, sounds like he wasn't even sure what it was. Keeps mentioning the injury is very rare for a basketball player.

I agree they shouldn't rush him back before the Dayton game. Need them for a stretch run. Next 4 games are winnable if we play even halfway to our potential.

If either injury happens to be lingering and season ending... would they qualify for a medical red shirt, or have they played in too many games?

I think it's 30% or less of the team's games. They would both be under, but it doesn't sound like either is season ending.

You can't play in more than 30% of your team's games and get a redshirt.

The player's injury has to occur in the first half of the season and the player cannot have played in more than 30 percent of his team's total games. Fractions are rounded up and postseason games count toward the total. If neither player played another game, it appears they could get a medical red-shirt assuming URI plays a few games in the A10 tourney and makes a post-season tourney, NCAA or NIT.

They both played 8 games.....30% of 30 is 9...they're under......

So Dan just responded to Bill Koch's request for status on Thompson and Martin. Generally positive signs said Coach Hurley. He expects to know more on Monday.

For Thompson, it's a patellar type injury.

For Martin, two separate tears in the quadriceps group of muscles.

Thanks to Bill Koch for following up and specifically asking for a diagnosis!

Oh, Doom. Pretty sure Hass is getting professional, high-end medical care and advice. But maybe you stayed at a Holiday Inn last night?

Make fun of Rambone all you want,
but the injuries to Hassan, means he won't
be 100% all season.
Most players are dinged up to some extent during the season.
I do know about torn muscles.
I'm assuming it's a partial tear and not a complete tear.
That would require surgery, if that were the case.
I'm sure Hassan is getting the best therapy and care.
Tough kid, so he'll still be a force.

Have you contacted the team yet to offer up your services and take a look at Hassan to provide the proper treatment? We need your expertise to make sure everything is being handled correctly.

So what was the initial timeline that was estimated, 4-6 weeks? Have we heard if it's possibly longer than that or do we think Hurley has an idea of when Hass will be ready and just doesn't want to say?.

Just for where we're at right now it will be 3 weeks tomorrow since he got injured. Dayton game is just under 5 weeks of recovery if he plays. At 8 weeks of recovery he misses half the a10 season.

In last night's post game presser Dan mentioned that they received some positive news on the injury front. He did not say exactly what the positive news was but that they will know more on Monday. I take it to mean we see Hass back sooner rather than later.

Throw in the towel this year, medical redshirt Hassan and then we're Elite Eight bound with the Core Four next year. :D :D :D

Nope, he played in 8 games. You have to have played in 30% or less of your team's games, which would be at least 9 games.

To apply for a medical hardship, the injury must be season-ending. You can't just decide that you want to try to maximize the next year and shut a player down because he'll miss another month. However, it is entirely possible with an injury like this that the player reaggravates it during rehab and does have to shut it down for the season, in which I believe a hardship waiver would be in play.

Oh boy! Houston, we have our excuse...if Hass can't play the rest of this season!

Although we could sure use him NEXT year....seriously........If you listen closely, you can already hear the Hurley Hype Machine warming up......

Wait 'till next year....rinse, repeat

If the tears aren't completely healed and he reinjures himself after he comes back.....I doubt that hardship waivers are approved anymore, right?

Then we don't have him either way......

Duke kind of did this with Amile Jefferson last year. Got injured in December and it was up in the air whether or not he'd come back all the way until late February when they finally announced he was out for the season.

Could really use him against Dayton. That's 10 days away so let's hope he's close enough to 100 percent by then.

Hurley does seem particularly quiet about Thompson's recovery timeline in the coaches show. He's dealing with a patella issue, which I know firsthand is tough to get back from, but I hope he's not out too much longer than Hass.

I want Hass to come back whenever he is ready to go... But I would love to see him on the court against St. Joe's... Their coach and that team of cheap shot artists makes my blood boil.

Rest Hassan until Dayton. We SHOULD be able to get by these next two games without him.
