Some Seton Hall fans (see link to their board below) believe that URI will meet Seton Hall at the Barclays Arena in the NIT Season Tip-Off. Would play either Virginia or Vanderbilt in game two depending on first game outcomes. Pirate fans also think that Seton Hall will host Monmouth as one of the tournament's home games.

I have seen nothing anywhere else to confirm either of these items. Only the four Barclays teams have officially been announced and there have been no named match-ups. Monmouth would be a better than typical tournament home game if they were to come to Kingston.

I'm not sure. If they don't feel safe going it's best if they don't go. That said, the university already sends over a ton of students as part of study abroad programs. If it's not safe for the basketball team, should we be sending over other students?

RR02 thinking more in line that this is largely a veteran group. The trip might not be desperately needed to develop the squad. A D1 BB team also could draw quite a bit more attention than individual or small groups of anonymous students.

Regardless it is a sad reflection of these difficult times....

I know there was some confusion about where the Holy Cross game would be played this year. Originally it was set for the DCU Center, but about a month ago Bill Koch said it would be a home game. We're not listed as a home game in Holy Cross' season ticket ad, so that's further evidence we play them this year at home and next year in Worcester.

My guess would be like in years past, an email will be sent out with the full nonconference schedule. I rmememenr last year I received that email, and later that day Rothstein tweeted out the OOC schedule.

Only the four teams (URI/Seton Hall/Vanderbilt/Virginia) headed to Brooklyn have been announced for the NIT Tip-Off. The other four teams have not as yet been officially announced. Seton Hall fans think Monmouth is one of these four teams and they will meet them in one of their two home games. Pirate fans also think that SHU will play URI in the first game in Brooklyn with the winner/loser meeting their counterpart from the UVA-Vanderbilt match-up for the next game. I however have seen nothing to confirm either of the SHU fan assertions.

Seton Hall is in a lot of preseason top 25 lists.
If we beat the shit out of them, we are in good shape...
Beating the Hall and UVA would be our best possible outcome. I think they'll both be better than Vanderbilt.

I hope we add an OOC away game to take the pressure off of the 1 true road game at Bama. Syracuse was killed on selection Sunday because they didn't play outside of the carrier dome. I would prefer we didn't fall into that trap.

They are not going to play three true road games against real teams again, like they did last year. They don't feel like that worked for them and want to change scheduling models. I think you will definitely see more than one game (other than the exempt tournament games) away from the Ryan, but that could be a neutral site game. In years where they play Brown in Providence, they may play two true road games plus a neutral.

Not on the schedule this year, but Penn State's OOC schedule is shockingly awful. Zero tournament teams from last year, average KenPom ranking of 209.8. Heading into his seventh season, Chambers seemed to have something going there with some solid recruiting, especially from the Philly area, but that's an awful approach. Wonder if he survives for an eighth season? Different sport, but I do enjoy every bad thing that happens to Penn State.

I think you have already mentioned the reason the Penn State OOC schedule is so bad, the tenuous position of Chambers. That schedule is not an attempt to get the Nittany Lions an NCAA at large bid. It is a blatant effort to pad their record with wins, crappy or not. Looks like the goal is to get wins to help save Chambers since it would look bad on the surface to fire him if he had a decent winning record. A closer look however at those wins would make such a record worthless.

If Penn St. finishes 11-7 or better in the B1G and devours that OOC schedule, they are in and likely a 7-8 seed.
If they finished 10-8 in the B1G, they are probably still in the 9-10 range assuming they have some marquee home/road wins.
If they finish 9-9, they could still be square on the bubble 11-12 seed depending on how their resume stacks up and how other teams have performed.
Anything less, out.

Just look at Virginia Tech last year.
KenPom 3 Top 100 games - @#20 Michigan, neutral #64 Texas A&M, home #74 Ole Miss.
2 games 101-200 - neutral #107 Nebraska, neutral #119 New Mexico
3 games 201-300 - home #201 UMBC, home #270 High Point, home #288 Citadel
4 games 301-351 - home #309 Charleston Southern, home #321 Maryland Eastern Shore, home #328 VMI, home #337 Maine.

#9 seed, 10-8 in conference, 1 win in conference Tournament.

Penn's St.'s OOC should only kill them if they perform poorly. Conference play will likely determine Penn St./Chambers fate.

Somewhat concerned that the NIT field is still not yet finalized at this late date. I hope the NIT Tip-off does not have to resort to non D1 schools as it has had to do in the past. That would suck. It was that scenario back the last time in 2013--14 when Rhody participated in this event as it had to play Metro State out in Arizona.

They're probably in the same situation URI and some other mid-majors are with scheduling, but worse. Olean in the late fall and winter probably isn't a glorious sell from a logistics standpoint either.
