WOW!

I was hoping for the best, but I didn't think we would actually start the season ranked.

What a special moment for the program.

Right above Cincy too. That game is shaping up to be a great one.

Any idea when the AP poll comes out?

Ranked 1 spot ahead of Cincinnati. Obviously a huge early season game for us as far as staying up in the rankings.

Will Open the season Nationally Ranked at #24

Here here! Wonder what the buzz is like around campus? We can use every student possible at our first three games going into Mohegan.

They should definitely get in the AP Top 25 as well. The ranking will help get attention of students. Hopefully the early games in Kingston will hook the students and we see big turnouts from them to fill the building.

I think it's fair to question the ticket paying fans as there is a large pool of them who won't come down until URI beats PC in any given season, even if that's not the most critical win of the year (and usually it's not).

There is no question that games televised on Cox affects attendance. If problems persist with Cox and an agreement for the 16-17 season cannot be reached we should have a lot of sell outs.
Does anyone have an idea how much Cox has paid to televise our games in the past?

The word "ranked" is so huge for students along with other fans. It's like a boost of confidence that changes their priorities from "I might go" to "wow were actually really good". Easy to advertise a good team because the ranking is clear evidence. Wow, I might paint my face like blueman now.

I am very, VERY happy about this!!

I caution everyone to remember when Nebraska was ranked at the bottom of the Top 25 a couple of years ago and we beat them. By the end of that season Nebraska was a disaster.

I don't see us doing that, but I think early season-rankings are not at all indicative of end of the year results, especially when looking at teams ranked 20-25.

KenPom ranking ps are out. They need about a month of data to be worthwhile, but there are 3 A10 teams in the top 50 (VCU, Dayton, Rhode Island), 9 in the top 100 to start.

Interesting that Top 25 voters picked Rhody ahead of Dayton. A10 MBB coaches dis Rams in favor of Flyers.

Although I went through a handful of ballots and everyone that had Dayton in the top 25 ranked them ahead of Rhody. Dayton just wasn't on enough ballots.

John Feinstein is drinking the A10 kool aid, based on his having Dayton #14 and URI #18. Dickie V and KMac's votes don't surprise me. Seth Davis is usually bullish on the A10 voting but he only had Rhody at #25 - but he is usually more outspoken about A10 deserving a lot of bids as the tourney nears not so much early season.

I was lookging at this, I wonder if we will be under-valued really early on since Vegas relies so heavily on KenPom. So much of his rankings is historical performance so I wouldnt be surprised if it takes a little while to catch up if we really take as big a jump as everyone is hoping.

It's a nice idea but not really true. If you look at both our conference schedules you can easily argue Dayton has the tougher schedule.
