The Red Sox are now oh-so-close to setting their tee times for October.

They are now at least 7 games behind the other wild card contenders, who don't seem to be losing many games lately.

They would have to win at least 30 of their last 42 games to even possibly get in.

Chances...slim and none...and with apologies to Slim....I think he's left the building.

RS win 2 out of 3 in Cleveland...is that the start of the big push for a wild card?

Not really imo...Cleveland isn't as good as their record...they went 20-3 against the woeful Tigers and Royals to get back in the mix....

Even the Yankees aren't 40 games over .500 good.....15 of those came against the AAA Orioles.

Their schedule is about to get way harder and a lot of those games will be on the road.

Judge is terrible.

Totally lost. While his teammates are hitting HR's he's whiffing at a Stanton-like rate.

His slugging percentage might be the lowest of any of the regulars.

He needs to either sit, or Boone needs to drop him in the order to like 6th or 7th.

Hell, right now they could bring up Frazier, attitude and all, and it would be a major improvement.

Yes, his defense is still great, but right now he's an automatic out batting 2nd....the last month he's hitting about .150

If I were the Yankees I wouldn't rush to pay him 30+ million a year....they have enough of those with Stanton's contract.

Devers another strong game. He is 8-15 in the 3 games with the Yankees.
Devers is now:
- 2nd in Batting Average and closing the gap to 1st
- 1st in Hits
- 2nd in Runs Batted In
- 2nd in Runs Scored
- 3rd in Doubles

And he did not make the AL All Star Team - not even as a Sub

Devers could conceivably win the MVP and not have been an All Star. Has that ever happened in the history of Baseball?
Devers went 3-5 last night raising his average to .331, continues to close in on the #1 spot
Devers now leads the American League in 3 Categories:
- RBIs
- Hits
- Doubles

Those uniforms were awful...I like the nicknames, but the colors were putrid.

And as for the Red Sox....they might catch the Rays, but not going to catch either the Indians or A's.

The A's might do some damage in the playoffs if they get by their likely opponent the Indians in the wild card game.

Sox win. A’s lose, Rays lose their 4th straight.

Sox have doubled their chances for a playoff bid to 8%.
Still a long way to go but Boston has now won only 4 fewer games that the Rays and the A’s.

They certainly are. And Devers did not even make the All Star Team as a sub - a disgrace.

Martinez also a very good year hitting .314 and his 32nd HR last night

Eduardo Rodriguez got his 16th win last night against only 5 losses. We would be in far worse shape without his stellar year. Hope he wins 20

Vasquez solid year for a catcher hitting .283 with 19 HRs

Workman with his 9th save last night striking out the side and lowering his ERA to 1.98

Holt a very good year above expectations. Why Cora does not play him more is a mystery. Hitting .320 with many clutch hits.

Can be challenging these days to find production at the plate from a catcher. Solid year indeed for Vasquez

After the next 7 games, 3 against the Twins and 4 against the Yankees, we'll know if the Red Sox are still alive for a wild card.

With 25 games remaining, they have to win close to 20 of them to have a chance.

I think they fall a couple of games short, best case scenario. The teams ahead of them just won't lose enough imo.

Think the Yankees wish they had gotten Mike Minor from the Rangers? Best WAR in the majors.

Cora should be gone too. Can’t stand listening to him in post game interview whether it’s a win or a loss. Team has not improved. Handful of players with solid years but not near enough for playoff spot. Rodriguez great year pitching. Bogarts, Ddvers, Martinez, Holt very good, Betts too. Vasquez good at catching and hitting.
I’d move our Cora and his whole staff - especially pitching coach.

I doubt the Sox will fire Cora.....if they flop next year then yes.

Last year he looked like a genius...this year he's a bum.

The problem is, with Dombrowski it was win now....now that he's gone I would guess they will try and revert to more of what the Yanks are doing...build quality depth thru the farm system.

Of course, the RS farm system is pretty bare right now. All the home grown stars are on the big club.

Good luck trying to keep them all.....going to have to commit a huge amount of money for a few players, leaving scraps for the rest.

I mean, the Sox will remain a good team for years to come....but will they be WS good again?

I think Cox should be gone. Much of the blame has to be on him. He’s full of Coach speak. Always defending his players.
New head guy should come in and clean house. Probably won’t though and they will keep Cora.

Pitching staff was the primary reason for failure.

Bullpen needs weren't addressed. Workman was excellent, but the others were inconsistent.

Price and Sale are injury prone and that's not likely to change. Porcello is up and down...this year down.

Rodriguez was really the only starter that was consistently good.

Their lineup is the best in baseball one thru five. After that, not so good. Again, depth was/is a problem.

Most of the RS best hitters were for the most part injury free this season. Imagine where they would be if they had HALF of the Yankees' injuries?

The Boston Red Sox are on track to pay a $13.05 million luxury tax for a season in which they are likely to miss the playoffs.

I thought the Brewers were good? If you're good...you can't be pitching him tonite? Can you?

They should have left Pomeranz in to pitch the 8th having pitched two strong 6th and 7th shutout innings. Hader just couldn’t close it out in the 8th giving up 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th and that was it.

I think they try to keep Mookie at all costs - they can probably jettison some other contracts, and not re-sign some other FAs, if they're as hellbent at getting under the luxury tax threshold as they claim.

Whatever they do, it looks like if they try and keep Betts, they will skimp on their depth to pay him, and the result won't be pretty in any event.

The Sox have backed themselves into a corner, and imo they will end up 2nd or 3rd fiddle to the Yanks and Rays for a few years to come.

Hearing it may be impossible to keep Betts. JD doesn't seem to think they can... and a radio announcer the other day had a good one... Chris Sale should wear a jersey that says "Not Mookie Betts" all year because he's why they won't be able to sign him.

Yankee fans should hope for the Rays to beat the Astros.

Still would be a tough series, but the Yanks would win it.

Have to say though, with Tampa getting Glasnow and Snell back, their starters are as good as anyones, if not better.

Well they aren't over yet, but maybe MLB should have just skipped the ALDS and gone right to the Houston/Yankees ALCS.

Fucking Verlander's going to own the Yankees again...the guy is unhittable right now...the Rays couldn't hit his curveball with 3 bats.

And Cole is every bit as good. The Yanks need to sign him.

The Rays have been a great story, but I will be very surprised if they win game 5.

Houston just does not lose at home in the playoffs, and Cole has been a beast.

Now as for the Dodgers, they aren't nearly as clutch, and it would be no surprise to me if they are eliminated.

Figure the Yanks-Astros winner to win it all, no matter who they face in the WS.

If the Rays somehow win Thursday, then sorry Sox fans, the Yankees will raise their 28th WS banner.
