DeAndre' Bembry hires agent, declares for NBA Draft
DeAndre' Bembry has announced he has declared for the draft and signed with an agent, so his St. Joe's career is officially over.
http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/spor ... draft.html
With Bembry leaving, St. Joe's loses their top three scorers from this past year and don't return a player that averaged in double figures. Have to figure they won't be serious contenders for the league title now.

Re: DeAndre' Bembry leaving St. Joe's
Not great for the A10, but good for us.
yay.
Let's see if EC does the same thing, if he has a great year and URI makes the Dance.
I would think he might stay though. URI could be even better the following year.
He might show Dan the same loyalty that DH showed by not taking the Rutgers job. As long as Dan stays after next season too of course.....

Re: DeAndre' Bembry leaving St. Joe's
Is it bad for the A10, yes. But it's mostly bad for St. Joe's, and after their garbage this past season I really can't bring myself to feel bad. And after Bembry's dangerous fouls against us in the senior day game last year I won't miss him next season. Couldn't have happened to a nicer coach or better program and this just gives room at the top for a different program to step up.

RR2, just means that if we play them twice, that should be two wins.

We'll probably find out the end of May if we get them once or twice.

I irrationally hated him this season ever since I saw him, in person, score his 1000th point right after EC got hurt. Hope he gets drafted and makes and stays with an NBA team. Brown, you were fine. Miles, good riddance to you and your elbows.

I think it is good for the Atlantic 10. One of the hits it takes is that as a conference it doesn't produce many nba players or first round picks.

57, if you are expecting 25 regular season wins, then I think you will be disappointed.
I just don't see it. Talent or not, are we all of a sudden going to win 75% of our close games?
Because that's what I think it will take to reach that number.
Out of 31 regular season games, my guess is we are involved in about 12 games that are decided by 5-6 points or less.
How many of those will be against good teams? Most of them.
So, 9-3 is 75%. Good luck with that. Both the players and Dan will have to be a lot better at the end of games. I see an improvement over last year, there HAS to be, but not enough to reach that percentage.
If I'm wrong, then I will be happily surprised. And admit I was wrong.

Bad for the A10. That's two chances for very good wins.

I couldn't agree more. We are at the point now where this team needs to prove to us that they can win the close ones. Do we have the talent for 25 wins? Yup... We can no longer use the excuse that our leaders are young guys. Our starting 5 are now juniors and seniors...NO EXCUSESrambone 78 wrote:57, if you are expecting 25 regular season wins, then I think you will be disappointed.

studs, there's some here that think we're just going to roll the balls out and dominate everybody next season.
All of our issues will magically disappear...POOF!!!!
It's not going to do any good to be wildly optimistic, or deeply pessimistic either......
Whatever happens, happens, and we've already seen what can happen when you assume anything....
I can't wait for the prediction contest for next season.
I'll bet we get some who predict 27, 28 wins. Most will be in the 24-26 range.
And some will be in the low twenties. Like me.

I think it is the norm for kids to complete a 4 year degree in 3 years as a varsity athlete. Because they can take classes before the freshman year starts and then each summer.
This is great for him. I hope it works out. In todays basketball world there is no reason for him not to go pro. He was obviously the best player in every A10 game and then arguably the best in each of their OOCs.
There should be a correlation in the draft or at least I think so from the idea that the league is a shooters league. Skill league. If it is indeed that shooter/skilled league then the more mature players will be more valued than the past 20 years.

It is good for Bembry in that he won't ever have to again deal with Phil Martelli or any of the many obnoxious Hawks fans.

Re: DeAndre' Bembry hires agent, declares for NBA Draft
Way too early predictions for 2016-17 regular season:
Best case scenario: 25-26 wins, 5 seed
Worst case scenario: 20-21 wins, NIT land
Most likely scenario [my prediction] about 23 regular season wins, 1 or 2 more in conf. tourney, 10 seed
Assuming no major changes from what the roster is currently projected to be, with general good health for all.
Take it with a grain of salt, or whatever your medicine of choice......

IMO, the A10 tourney teams next year: URI, DAY, VCU, LAS. I was thinking St. Joes would make it, but no Bembry=no tournament.
Next year will be a big year - we'll finally beat them in Philly. We'll beat Zoomass in Amherst, and we'll beat PC at the Dump.

I think Bembry is low first round. Why would he come out otherwise with no guaranteed contract? RF1., I doubt he minds Martell I and the fans. They're on his side.

Interesting article on Yahoo this morning about guarantees coming into the draft. I would think some team likely told Bembry that if he was there when they picked they will take him.

Correctomundo 208....
I'm in that camp of "hoping" but not really "expecting".......I THINK we'll make it, but don't sell the farm yet.....
Surprise me for once......in a good way.......
There have been hardly ANY times in their history when URI has been "expected" to make the Dance.
So if somehow we don't get there.....the letdown isn't as big.....

57, you're right about one thing:
If we don't make it, DH's ceiling isn't what we all thought it was when he was hired.
That much will be very clear.
That's why I'm hedging.
Dan has to prove he can win the close ones against good teams.
If he doesn't next season, he never will imo. And some of us at least, will wish he had gone to Rutgers.

I fully expect with the repairs made we will have an absolute monster season.
