Great for Hassan!

I thought he should have gotten it LAST season. This season, not so much, but a great make up call if there ever was one!

Congrats Hassan! Agree he should have won it last year. Interesting to note the last two winners of this award have been out for the year when it was announced that they won.

“It's a great award for him, especially the way the year went for him,” head coach Dan Hurley. “It's probably a little bit unexpected. We probably expected it a little more last year when he was one of the top three or four defensive players in the country. But it's a great award for him. We're thrilled. He's the greatest kid ever and he deserves it.”

Well deserved Has. Did Garrett get snubbed from an all conference selection? PPG 12.7 RPG 3.8 APG 4.7. I think he did.

Agree, would have been nice to see Jarvis get a 3rd team nod. Congrats to Hass, well-deserved honor being the best defender in the conference while playing on one leg. Hopefully he'll be at full strength all of next season!

Not too much to quibble about with the All A10 Teams, except one thing seemed funky to me. When watching St. Joe's I never got the impression that Bembry is an especially strong defender so his placement on the all-defensive team seemed odd - anybody who follows Joe's more closely have a different opinion?

Garrett probably would've made the third team if we finished with a better conference record. All the guys who made the third team have better stats than Garrett except Mo Alie-Cox who is at least on a team going to the tournament. Nice to see Jaylen Adams make the first team after being snubbed from the rookie team last season.

Are these awards supposed to be based on number in conference or all season? I would imagine there are many on the list who's numbers would not stack up to Garrett's in conference. (I am too lazy to do the research.)

Garrett should have been second team. He single handedly carried us this year at times.

He would certainly be one of the first 10 players chosen in an A-10 fantasy draft...

Awards are based only on the A10 season and A10 regular season statistics

That makes it even crazier that Garrett got nothing.

Garino and Mason are the only 2 you could question...with Garrett replacing.

Not odd that the A10 defensive player of the year isn't one of the best 15 players??

This league. Ugh.

It is only right to consider only conference stats in passing out these awards since the quality of the OOC schedule varies widely from school to school. Fordham, for example had a pathetic SOS for it's OCC, a ranking somewhere in the 300's and it was embarrassing for any A-10 school to make such an awful schedule.

This is quite the award when you consider Hass played with an injured knee for most of the season and totally missed the last 4 or 5 games of the season.

Great job Hassan!!!!!!

Yeah thats what I am saying. If you're the DPOY, then why not on an All Conf team?

Seems odd to me that you can be deemed the best at 50% of the game and not get 1/15 slots for all conference.

Unless it is an either-or thing?? That makes no sense to me.

TruePoint wrote:Garrett got hosed

Seems to be an opinion of several here so I went back to do some analysis...................
The big question is which player(s) would Garrett and/or Martin be selected over. Year and Position for each player noted below:

3 Teams, 15 Players
- Only 6 Guards, 8 Forwards, 1 Guard/Forward, No Centers
- Only 1 Sophomore, 6 Juniors, 8 Seniors, no Freshmen
- 6 Teams had 2 Selections each and 5 of those 6 had the league's 5 best records
- Richmond had 2 Selections on 3rd team and finished only 7-11
- Dayton 14-4, St Bonaventure 14-4, VCU 14-4, St Joe 13-5 and GW 11-7 all had 2 each
- 3 Teams had 1 selected: Davidson 10-8, Fordham 8-10 and Duquesne 6-12
- URI had the best record of the 5 teams with no selection at 9-9. UMASS 6-12, SLU 5-13, GMU 5-13 and LaSalle 4-14 had no selection

Likely what hurt URI was that no one player really stood out in PPG. Garrett, Terrell, Iverson, McGlynn and Martin were all closely grouped in PPG. Not a bad thing necessarily from a team standpoint but may not be as helpful for All League consideration

Garrett did lead the A10 in 3PG Percentage. Also he is only a Soph and the only Soph who made the 15 Players was Jalen Adams who made 1st Team

Interesting that the 1st team had only 1 Senior in Melvin Johnson. Speaks well for the future of the A10 in star potential next year
4 on the 2nd team are Seniors, 3 on 3rd team are Seniors

1st Team
Gibbs Davidson G JR
Cook Dayton G JR
Adams St Bona G SO
Bembry St Joe F JR
Johnson VCU G SR

2nd Team
Pierre Dayton F SR
Cavanaugh GW F JR
Garino GW G/F SR
Miles St Joe F SR
Posley St Bona G SR

3rd Team
Mason Duquesne G SR
Rhoomes Fordham F SR
TJ Cline Richmond F JR
Allen Richmond F SR
Alie-Cox VCU F JR
