On the 'stayed up too late (for sports)' front... great win by the Sox, which ended just in time to flip over to the last half hour, er.....I mean, minute and a half of the Suns/Clips game. GREAT ending...man, that Ayton fella can play!

That last minute and a half took forever! Kind of ridiculous, but the ending was worth staying up for.

Impressive vertical, obviously, but man, hope he lands somewhere that they coach him up, because it didn't translate to his stat line. He averaged 3.5 RPG and 0.4 BPG in 25.5 MPG.

He is already a lottery pick. Here are some mock rankings

8. Orlando Magic: G Keon Johnson
Ht./Wt: 6-5, 186 Class: Freshmen
Tennessee: 11.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.5 apg

Johnson might be the Donovan Mitchell of this draft class with his elite basketball IQ in the open court and his crazy first step off the dribble. Johnson was a little inconsistent during his one season at Tennessee, but the way he spreads the floor caters more to the NBA. He could be the steal of the draft at No. 8.

8. Orlando Magic (from Chicago)
Keon Johnson
Tennessee SG

The Magic struggled with wing depth all season and can afford to take a home run swing on a high-upside prospect like Johnson, who brings the type of playmaking and two-way versatility that is very hard to find. Johnson is a tenacious defender who showed enough promising glimpses of passing and shot-making to suggest outstanding things to come for a team that is willing to be patient with his development.

This mock has Keon going #7

Amusing that two mocks have him going to Orlando, because he is exactly the kind of player they love and have been failing to develop for about a decade now, haha. :D Given his athleticism, he should go in the lottery, but looking at the current projected order in the 6 to 12 range - I think Oklahoma City would be perfect (plenty of raw projects they've developed into real NBA players), Golden State (vets and track record of development) and the Spurs would be better spots for him.

At the risk of opening the floodgates...is there a lamer slogan in sports, than..."fear the deer"? I mean, please...no one fears deer.
No one. No one ever saw a deer and said, "Oh, (expletive!) I gotta get away from this thing..." Except maybe other deer, that's it. Ultra lame, but they didn't have a lot to work with...

A contender might be: ASG5280...

RIP Sam Jones

Imagine Sam Jones with the 3 point line?

Article mentions Sam Jones proficiency with the bank shot. Bank shots are pretty rare in todays game outside of 10 feet or less from the hoop.

He was a great player especially paired with defensive specialist KC Jones.

Was that ever in doubt...? I think the issue with him is showing up out of shape at the start of each year. Shaq and James Harden didn't really start doing that until their late 20s and early 30s - Luka is 22.

Stamina-wise maybe, but "shape"? Not sure anyone's ever looked at him and said, "now that guy looks like he's in shape." Yet, he somehow manages to put his defender behind him whenever he wants.

It shows up in his defensive numbers, or, the lack of them, and even his advanced stats plateaued when he was 20, and they've been slightly down the past two years. He's had an unusual career path to the NBA, but he should still be getting better from year to year. Granted, he's still 14th in PER and 9th in VORP, and I'd trade Tatum for him in a second. But his career progression is looking more like a "normal" Hall of Famer now, and not a generational talent.

Last night he looked like a generational talent. The very worst thing that could happen...Luka getting injured playing D. I appreciate him not taking any chances there ;)

Hell of a finish today. Irving was unconscious toward the end, but the Celtics kept battling.
