Week #7 - Games of Interest
Re: Week #7 - Games of Interest
Fordham shows it is pretty much a fraud. Beat by a very bad Boston College team in Brooklyn 64-55. Fordham is now 9-2 but every win was at home in Rose Hill Gym against bad teams. Their only games elsewhere were losses.

So going 2-0 against them should be a slam dunk, right?RF1 wrote:Fordham shows it is pretty much a fraud. Beat by a very bad Boston College team in Brooklyn 64-55. Fordham is now 9-2 but every win was at home in Rose Hill Gym against bad teams. Their only games elsewhere were losses.

If you think so, re-watch our 2 games against them last year, and compare how we're playing right now again to last year.
Slam dunk my ass.

Re: Week #7 - Games of Interest
Dayton escaped at home by a point. They probably should have lost.
But Pierre is coming back, and they'll be fine.

Beating Fordham once will not be automatic.
At least they'll of Fordham bring down the A10 has subsided.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but Dyshawn Pierre is back on the Dayton team.

Big comeback. They must have a great coach. Can't wait to see that team in the Baron Invitational Tournament next March.

Re: Week #7 - Games of Interest
The scores of our opponents is interesting but will sadly likely have no effect on Rhody. An NCAA at large invite is now a pipe-dream and an NIT at large bid is looking more unlikely with each game. If URI fails to achieve a good enough record and RPI (20 wins and RPI of 75 or better), I hope they have the good sense to refuse a 2nd rate CBI bid. They should just accept the fact that this season was a total bust and shut it down.

Re: Week #7 - Games of Interest
Still a lot of season and lot of potential. Still thinking NCAA's...maaaybe NIT. But, if it comes down to it, I think they would (and should) accept any kind of postseason bid...this group needs all the game experience it can get. If they are invited at that level, they should be gracious and play at that level...rather than acting like they're 'too good for it'...because if the record/invite says CBI...that's what they are. I don't think that will be the case however...still thinking NCAA... lol, remember, those nutty announcers last night said the A10 was a '5 or 6 bid league'RF1 wrote:The scores of our opponents is interesting but will sadly likely have no effect on Rhody. Are you serious?
They paid $35,000 to get CFL his precious 20 wins in
one of those shit pay as you go tournaments.
There were 1,200 people in the stands!
URI took a bath, financially.
Pass on anything not NCAA or NIT, which also bores the crap
out of our fans.
Check last years Iona attendance.

Davidson with the win. Jack Gibbs with 41 points on 6-8 three point shooting. He had an unusual double - double. 41 points and 10 turnoversObadiah wrote:Only one game in the A-10 tonight:

Rod, I was at the Iona game last year...and it was that day that we decided to buy season tix for this year. If they have a home game in the XYZ tournament (or a roadie that's not too far), I'll go to that one, too. I just don't think it's right to 'pass' on an invitation to play. The fans that are bored...won't (and don't have to) go...shouldn't be any surprises with that.rodfromcranston wrote:Are you serious?

NCAA or NIT or BUST!!!!
If they can't even qualify for the NIT, shut it down. Move on and put this season behind given the gross failure to meet expectations.

Why would we spend money to play a shitty team in a shitty tournament when the money could be put to MUCH better use on another part of the program?

I believe by joining one of those "shitty" tournaments, you get an extra week or two or three of practice that you otherwise couldn't have.Billyboy78 wrote:Why would we spend money to play a shitty team in a shitty tournament when the money could be put to MUCH better use on another part of the program?
Remember hearing this about Bowl Games, a few years back.
Teams would be asked, "You are 6-6 and you're season was a failure. Why go?"
They'd say "Well, we get an extra 3-4 weeks of practice, good for the young kids."
If you're team is mostly upperclassmen, or you are just banged up, I can understand not wanting to go.

Re: Week #7 - Games of Interest
Did I say we should pass on the NIT? I
However, it's also a shit also-ran
tournament that few ever recall who won.
Again, look at history and tell me it's worth
paying $35,000 to get 1,200 people for a
tournament that nobody even knows what it's called.
Practice? Who cares.
Did anyone watch that abortion between us and Stanford?
Empty arena with two teams that didn't want to be there.
Awful.
Really NCAA or bust!

Re: Week #7 - Games of Interest
I doubt we're going to have a chance to decide whether to take an NIT bid.
I don't see it. It will take at least 20 wins, 2-3 more than they are likely to get, unless some miracle happens in the A10 tournament.
Very few teams refuse a bid, however. If they were to play well enough to get a bid without EC and a possibly hobbled Hassan, I would think that actually would be an accomplishment for this current group of players.

Back to tonight's results:
In addition to the Davidson win, other results are:
* After a nip and tuck first half, Bowling Green pulled away in second to beat Cleveland State, 62-47.
* Iona had 54% shooting in first half to keep game close, but Akron came out in second stanza on a 12-2 run to build a lead Iona could not overcome. Final 78-64. AJ English did not play again.
* Rider routed Morgan State, 71-49.
* TCU overcame some all around bad shooting - 29% FG's , 52% FT's by capitalizing on 23 Bradley turnovers to beat the Braves, 53-49. Bradley's record falls to 2-11.

Little action on this last day of the holiday dominated week.
* Liberty at VCU. 5 PM.
* Marshall at Maryland. 4 PM. On BTN.
Given the slim pickings, we are faced with rooting for a Ram with a southern drawl and a turtle!
