I think Four and Earl will achieve above preseason expectations which will make up for a big part of losing EC. I see Four leading the team in scoring. 5th year player who can shoot. He is composed. Experience matters.

He mentioned during his radio interview after the AU game that he took 250 shots that morning. He is a scorer.

“Nobody cares,” Hurley said. “Valpo doesn’t care coming in here. Cleveland State’s not going to care next week. A lot of people have reached out and passed along their best wishes to E.C. in his recovery, but no one cares.”

“You run into all types of people in life,” Hurley said. “Some people give you nothing and some people give you everything they have all the time. Somebody that gives you everything they have, when something bad happens to them, it hurts. The last two days have been rough for all of us.”
Quite honestly, I'm still crushed by what I saw and felt Friday night.
EC came back from the Hospital to the Ryan Center some time during the first half of the Football game Saturday on crutches and practice was at 3:30pm.
So tough to fatham when the 1000th point was right there for him, the whole anticipation and build up of this season and then the long time on the floor.
I spent the rest of Friday night watching the faces of the Trainer, Doctor, Coaches, Players...hoping for a glimmer of hope but never saw a single encouraging sign.
Watching the team warm up before the game was such fun.
It's been a long time since I have observed a URI team beaming with such confidence.
Four was nailing 9 of 10 three point shots in warm ups with such a smooth release, such great rotation on the ball.
All the guys looked so physically fit, many with substantial weight losses, many clearly with added strength.
Freshmen looking good and confident.
All the players smiling, yet very businesslike and focused as well.
The band seemed better, the Cheerleaders seemed better, the Ramettes seemed better
Coaches all focused.
Clearly a team on a mission - no doubt.
Then Hassan and EC confident, strong, focused.
This is EC's and Hassan's year.
Both guys are young for their Junior Year.
Both guys know this is their year, their team.
The best guard and the best big man in the A10 - both on the same team - OUR TEAM.
Then there was our starting 5 on the bench, ready to be introduced.
Garrett, Terrell, Iverson, EC, Hassan. You just knew this was a special group of players, a special group of Coaches, Trainer, Staff, The anticipation, excitement, confidence was in the air.
Game started and it seemed everyone wanted that 1000th point for EC.
When EC went down there was a hush in the Ryan Center that was eery, something I have rarely seen
When DH went on the floor, when there was waving to the bench from some players, it just didn't feel good.
When EC was carried off the floor, his leg just dangling, it was tough for everyone, but very tough for me.
Even though we are deeper than last year, even though we are more talented than any year since Jim Harrick, losing a guy like EC is very tough. He is the best returning 3 point and free throw shooter on the team. He is healthy from his foot and finger. He is a great rebounding guard. He throws wonderful passes to Hassan and others. He is in his 3rd year of having learned the Dan Hurley system and been a major, major part of Dan's program of rebuilding the URI Rams.
Others will get EC's minutes and it will help some players develop faster than they would have otherwise.
The good news is EC will be back next year stronger than ever. The good news is EC is young for his Junior year anyway.

Time to move on for tomorrow's game, but I have to admit I'm maybe the biggest laggard as I feel so bad.

We should still have a good year........and then just imagine what next year will bring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think even with EC we were one year away. Now without him I think it even more.. The depth at guard is good.. The depth up front is and will be a concern. Any foul trouble and we are in trouble.. Think rebounding will be an issue.. I hope the big guys Hurley is bringing in next year will bring the balance this tem needs to get to next level.. It may not be a bad thing if we have EC for 2 more years..

Damn. Just when you think you're getting over the injury...

Never been a fan of Reynolds writing stylistically (I find it remarkably annoying that he uses the word "For" to kick off at least one paragraph in literally every single article he writes i.e. "For Matthew arguably had become the first kid to buy in to Hurley's vision of the future"), but that was a fine article. Depressing, but a good article nonetheless.

I think the injury took the same emotional toll to us on this board as it did to dan and the team.

The more I've thought about the valpo game the more encouraged I have been. Valpo is a good team with a couple very good players. Minus our free throw shooting which is certainly discouraging no way to rose color glass that.

Bottom line is EC got hurt. He tore his acl which will happen to a ton a players this year. It's one of the easier injuries to come back from in this day and age.

Now rose color glass time. It happened 5 mins into the first game so he could have two more years here. I doubt dan will ever leave him since he owes him a lot coming here to help him build the program when he could have gone to many other schools. Can u imagine having EC for two more seasons? There are only going to be higher levels recruits every year.

As for this year, we have three very talented guards in Jarvis, jared, and four. I've been impressed with earl so far. Hassan is Hassan. That's potentially a good group to get behind and they could still do some damage in the a10. Iverson has not been impressive at all just so u don't call me a homer.

I don't think its even close, the emotionally toll. The team has been around him basically 24/7 since the end of last year, in work outs, practicing, weight lifting, class, study hall, etc. Don't really see how its the same affect on the fans, who are, for the most part, on the outside looking in.

These kids have worked their asses off since last year, and it obviously hurts us as fans, but IMO, nowhere near the amount of pain the coaches, players, and staff feel.

Billyboy, Bullock of PC tore his ACL last year I think around 2-3 weeks before season started and he was back around mid to late summer playing near full speed based on reports. Without knowing all ththe details I would guess Aug-Sept for EC.

Next year with Robinson, EC, Thompson, Dowtin, Terrell– wow thats a lot of height in the back court. Win the regular season or Brooklyn. Go out first round and then march into next year riding high with basically too much talent to manage.

Sorry, we've heard all about "next year' from
Gil, Biggie, Reischel and Iffy's coming in,
all the way through this year.
We're like to pre-2004 Red Sox.
Every year becomes, "Well, wait until next year!"
Some of us are no longer young enough to perpetually
be waiting for next year.

Just saying they will be tall. I completely agree with the screw next year talk.

They have held a lead in most of their games. They warrant the criticism they receive because they are able to get the leads. They just choke them away.

nice to see that Hurley and all involved at URI made sure that EC got the best possible care. Assuming that Dr. Brian McKeon, is the same one that is and has been the Celtics Medical Director for years, assistant professor at Tufts Medical school and that they did the surgery at New England Baptist which is one of the best orthopeodic hospitals in the country.

Could need surgery. If so, recovery could take almost as long as EC's.

According to the radio broadcast EC made the trip to Virginia with the team and was working out with the training staff. They're saying he's ahead of schedule.

As for Hassan, it can't be possible that he's hurt that bad. Someone on here said that as a leader he should have been toughing it out last night.

Well, with losing our 2 best players for the season [if Hassan is] Dan will get a pass from the media for this train wreck of a season.

It's more than that, but it is what it is.

RR2, if he has torn ligaments, and he had continued to play, he would do more damage to the ankle, and risk possible PERMANENT damage.

Again, I did that like an idiot, and paid for it, and I'm still paying for it. At some point, I could lose my lower leg due to the poor circulation caused by the damage to the ankle. If I had stopped playing and gotten treatment sooner, I wouldn't have had that problem.

Not worth it one bit. His future quality of life could be affected, not to mention his BB career.

I think the rule is if you've played 30% of your schedule or less, and it's not after the mid-point of the season...but he'd have a "fifth year" of eligibility that could come into play?
