I’d never oppose someone from that family coming to URI.

His numbers are better than Harris and he would’ve been the best 3 point shooter on the team

Re: '18 NY G Malik Martin (Charlotte Commit)
If he wants to come here, it seems like he might make for a good rotational cog - maybe not a starter, but a shooter off the bench that would help space the floor. I don't know what his interest level is though, and that seems to be the biggest thing with the transfer market; most of them already have a destination in mind.

Re: '18 NY G Malik Martin (Charlotte - Transfer)
Does anyone know if the staff is considering him? He seems better than Long offensively and also a good defender. He hasn't shown much ability to create offense for others yet but otherwise seems to have a decent all around game.

But can he carry the A10 trophy all the way through security and to baggage claim at PVD?

He was named to the conference USA all defensive team, so yeah I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Malik would have a clear chance to earn a starting spot next season at URI should he choose to come here.

Some people don't like to follow in their brother's footsteps, especially someone as great as Hass. I don't know if that's how Malik feels, however.

Re: '18 NY G Malik Martin (Charlotte - Transfer)
If he can shoot from 3 let’s get him - the offense Cox is trying to run is stymied by our poor perimeter shooting. If we can shoot from deep we would open a lot.

I saw him play a couple of games at Charlotte, not a lot, but the games I saw him, maybe I just happened to catch a couple of good games, but he certainly looked like he had potential to be a good player. Even remember saying I wish he would have followed him brother. He played very hard on defensive end and was hitting shots the couple games I saw him. Played with ex Friar Drew Edwards.

Re: '18 NY G Malik Martin (Charlotte - Transfer)
I only saw him a few games as well. His footwork on the defensive end was very reminiscent of Hassan. I'd like to wish this into existence we could really use a solid player with experience.giovanni wrote: ↑4 years ago I saw him play a couple of games at Charlotte, not a lot, but the games I saw him, maybe I just happened to catch a couple of good games, but he certainly looked like he had potential to be a good player. In two seasons with Charlotte:
2018-2019 season 28.7% from 3
2019-2020 season 37.8% from 3

Right now, the staff holds a tissue up to the players nose, if it moves, they are interested!DeanDome88 wrote: ↑4 years ago Does anyone know if the staff is considering him? Per the latest Projo article we are recruiting Malik Martin. If we added Martin and Berry we are once again looking very athletic. The best part being that Martin and Berry can also shoot the basketball.

Box score from when he played against us.
I remember him looking really good and way more ready than our freshman at the time.
Then some posters here just weren't really impressed for some reason.

Re: '18 NY G Malik Martin (Charlotte - Transfer)
His stat line does not jump out at you but I'd say the only thing that Tyrese has been better at is rebounding and by a considerable margin. I'd give the defensive edge to Malik and think it would not be close. He plays good defense without fouling much and does not take a lot of shots.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑4 years agoBetter than Rese.

Could definitely end up a solid player for us.

Re: '18 NY G Malik Martin (Charlotte - Transfer)
I like Malik and would be happy to get him because he seems like a solid player and his brother is one of my all time favorites, but Tyrese is on a different level offensively than Malik. Defensively Malik is better, but Tyrese is a very solid rebounder and is better in this category. Tyrese was someone that is continuing to grow into a very, very good offensive player that can create his own shot. We can’t just dismiss that because Tyrese left.DeanDome88 wrote: ↑4 years agoHis stat line does not jump out at you but I'd say the only thing that Tyrese has been better at is rebounding and by a considerable margin. Exactly. These are the type of guys I want on this team. Ever since Malik killed us as a freshman I've wanted him to come here. Get it done Cox!

Yeah if M Martin and his family agree they want him in Kingston don’t see how we can say no.

Not to mention he’s a rising junior. And just as good and big as Rese.

I like the idea of Martin and Toppin going at each other in practice the next two years. I'm still trying to wish this into existence.

Re: '18 NY G Malik Martin (Charlotte - Transfer)
One of the reasons this makes sense now is that in HS he was a 6-3 Guard and now he’s a 6-6 wing and he’s improved his shooting

Have to imagine Hass gave us a little assist on this one of course. Just when I thought I couldn't love him any more than I already did.

Absolutely. With all the depressing news about the virus I needed to hear this. So excited! Now if Tres Berry commits it will be a grand slam!

Let’s recreate this! Thanks for the tiny distraction Martin family in what, personally, has been some of the worst of times. I welcome any bit of happy news, and this was nice.
Anyone else working in or have a loved one working in a NYC hospital emergency department right now? I do not recommend. The Martins are NYC people, they’d get it.

I like it. He feels like one of these guys that I will like without even knowing or having seen him yet. Tough defense and hard nosed like his brother
